The Galaxy A52 5G adds Sub-6GHz 5G, a faster Snapdragon 750G processor, and a smoother 120Hz display to the regular Galaxy A52’s 4G, Snapdragon 720G, and 90Hz screen. The phones otherwise share nearly the same cameras, battery capacity, size, charging, IP67 rating, storage expansion, and core design.
Both phones launched on March 17, 2021, so the best choice in 2026 depends as much on battery health, software support, carrier compatibility, and price as on the specification sheet.
Key takeaways
- The Galaxy A52 5G has three meaningful advantages over the Galaxy A52: Sub-6GHz 5G, a Snapdragon 750G processor, and a 120Hz refresh rate instead of 90Hz.
- Both phones have a 6.5-inch 1080 × 2400 Super AMOLED display, a 4,500mAh battery, 25W wired charging, IP67 protection, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and microSD expansion, subject to regional configuration.
- The advertised camera hardware is essentially the same on both models: a 64MP optically stabilized main camera, 12MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, 5MP depth camera, and 32MP selfie camera.
- The A52 5G is the better buy when both phones have similar condition and the price difference is modest; the regular A52 makes sense when it is substantially cheaper and 5G is not needed.
- Neither model should be treated as a current long-term Samsung purchase in 2026 without checking the exact model’s security-update status, battery condition, carrier compatibility, and return policy.
Galaxy A52 vs Galaxy A52 5G: what is the difference?
The Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A52 5G are separate variants introduced in the same March 17, 2021 announcement, not a base model and a later-generation replacement. The A52 5G is more than the Galaxy A52 with a 5G modem: Samsung also gave it a faster Snapdragon 750G chipset and a 120Hz display.

Which three upgrades does the Galaxy A52 5G actually provide?
1. Sub-6GHz 5G connectivity
The Galaxy A52 5G supports Sub-6GHz 5G in addition to LTE. Sub-6GHz is the lower- and mid-band category of 5G commonly used for broader coverage; the A52 5G does not automatically support every 5G band or network configuration worldwide.
Compatibility depends on the country, carrier, exact model number, supported LTE and 5G bands, carrier certification, VoLTE support, emergency-calling requirements, and whether the device is unlocked. Samsung’s US A52 5G datasheet identifies the US configuration’s Sub-6 5G support and lists its connectivity details, but a US carrier model should not automatically be assumed to work fully on a European, Asian, or Australian network.
5G can provide higher speeds or lower latency in a suitable coverage area, but a weak or congested 5G connection may perform no better than LTE. A 5G label on a used listing is therefore not enough: verify the model number against the intended carrier before buying.

2. A faster Snapdragon 750G processor
The regular Galaxy A52 uses the Snapdragon 720G, while the Galaxy A52 5G uses the Snapdragon 750G. The Snapdragon 750G is a genuine performance upgrade, but it is not a flagship-level leap.
Messaging, web browsing, video streaming, and ordinary social-media use can feel broadly similar on two phones in comparable condition. The A52 5G’s advantage becomes easier to notice in graphics-heavy games, app loading, camera processing, multitasking, and longer sessions that place sustained demands on the processor.
Do not attach a fixed percentage to the performance difference. Results vary with RAM configuration, storage, software version, temperature, thermal throttling, and battery condition. Samsung identifies the Snapdragon 750G in its US Galaxy A52 5G datasheet, while a Snapdragon 720G versus 750G comparison provides additional processor context.
3. A smoother 120Hz display
The Galaxy A52 5G refreshes its display at up to 120Hz, compared with up to 90Hz on the regular Galaxy A52. The 120Hz panel feels smoother when scrolling through feeds, swiping between home screens, browsing long pages, and playing games that support higher frame rates.
Rank #2
- Equipped with a 6.5″ Super AMOLED display that supports 120 Hz refresh rate, the Galaxy A52 5G delivers buttery-smooth animations and responsive interaction, making it great for gaming, scrolling, and watching content.
The difference between 90Hz and 120Hz is real but smaller than the improvement from 60Hz to 90Hz. The A52 5G’s display is not sharper: both phones use a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a 1080 × 2400 resolution. Samsung also advertised up to 800 nits of luminance, but that is a manufacturer specification rather than a guarantee of sustained outdoor brightness in every situation. Samsung’s Galaxy A52 specifications and its A52 family announcement document the display differences and shared panel format.
Are the Galaxy A52 and A52 5G cameras the same?
The advertised camera hardware is essentially the same on the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A52 5G. Both list a 64MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 12MP ultrawide camera, 5MP macro and depth cameras, a 32MP front camera, and video recording up to 4K at 30fps.
The A52 5G should not be treated as a camera upgrade. Firmware, image processing, regional software, storage condition, and individual scenes can produce small differences between two units, but the buying decision should not be based on an assumed 5G-model camera advantage. Samsung lists the shared camera arrangement in its official A52 family specifications.
Does the regular Galaxy A52 have better battery life?
Neither phone has a larger rated battery: both use a 4,500mAh battery and support 25W wired charging. The regular Galaxy A52 may last longer in some tests or usage patterns because it has no 5G modem and uses a lower 90Hz refresh rate, but better battery life is not a guaranteed model-wide result.
Brightness, mobile-signal strength, 5G or LTE behavior, refresh-rate settings, apps, software, and battery age all affect endurance. In 2026, battery health matters more than the original 4,500mAh specification because every available unit is several years old. A regular A52 with a healthy battery can outlast an A52 5G with a worn battery. Samsung confirms the shared battery capacity and charging specification in its A52 comparison announcement.
What stays the same besides the cameras and battery?
The two models share many of the features that made the A52 family appealing in the first place:
- 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 × 2400 resolution
- IP67 water and dust resistance rating
- Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- USB-C charging and data port
- microSD expansion, with capacity and SIM-tray configuration varying by region
- Optical image stabilization on the main camera
- Samsung One UI software
- NFC on many regional models, although NFC should be verified for the exact market version
- Plastic rear construction rather than a glass or metal flagship-style back
IP67 is not the same as “waterproof,” and an IP rating is not a reason to water-test a used phone. Seals can deteriorate with age, and a cracked screen, opened housing, or previous repair can reduce confidence that the original protection remains. Samsung describes these shared hardware features in its Galaxy A52 family announcement.

Does 5G matter when buying one in 2026?
5G matters when the exact A52 5G model works on the buyer’s carrier, the buyer has a compatible plan, and the price premium is small enough to justify the older phone’s support risk.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Buyer situation | Better direction | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Compatible 5G plan, good local coverage, and similar prices | Galaxy A52 5G | It adds network flexibility, a faster processor, and a 120Hz display. |
| LTE-only plan or mostly Wi-Fi use | Either, usually the cheaper unit | 5G may add little practical value, so condition and price matter more. |
| Uncertain carrier or imported model | Do not buy until verified | Regional bands, VoLTE, SIM configuration, firmware, and activation support can differ. |
| Temporary backup phone | Galaxy A52 if substantially cheaper | Basic use does not require the A52 5G’s extra performance or 5G capability. |
| Gaming or preference for smoother scrolling | Galaxy A52 5G | The Snapdragon 750G and 120Hz panel are meaningful advantages. |
| Security updates are essential for banking or work | Consider neither, or compare a newer phone | The A52 family launched in 2021 and has an older support horizon. |
A faster network is not guaranteed simply because a phone displays a 5G symbol. Coverage, congestion, carrier provisioning, and supported bands determine the result. The A52 5G is valuable for network compatibility only when the phone’s exact regional variant is suitable for the buyer’s network.
How long will the Galaxy A52 and A52 5G receive updates?
Both phones launched with Android 11 and One UI 3. Samsung’s 2021 launch commitment promised three generations of Android OS upgrades and at least four years of regular security updates. The commitment was measured from launch, not from the date a second-hand buyer purchases the phone.
Samsung’s current regional security scope page still lists the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A52 5G, but Samsung warns that security-update availability can vary by device, market, and carrier. Check the exact model number, current Android version, and security-patch date before buying; do not promise a specific final patch date from the original launch policy.
Samsung’s newer A-series models advertise a longer six-year software and security-update policy on the current US Galaxy A-series page. That newer policy must not be applied retroactively to the 2021 Galaxy A52 family. Samsung’s original launch terms are documented in the 2021 A52 announcement, and current regional support information is available through Samsung’s security-update scope.

Which should you buy: Galaxy A52 or Galaxy A52 5G?
Choose the Galaxy A52 5G when:
- The A52 5G costs only modestly more than an equivalent regular A52.
- The exact model is unlocked or confirmed to work on the intended carrier.
- You value smoother scrolling and a 120Hz display.
- You play games or want somewhat stronger everyday performance.
- You expect to keep the phone for a while and want Sub-6GHz 5G capability.
- Both phones have similar battery health, screen condition, and repair history.
Choose the regular Galaxy A52 when:
- The regular A52 is meaningfully cheaper.
- Your plan is LTE-only or you mainly use Wi-Fi.
- Your use is mostly messaging, browsing, streaming, and social apps.
- The regular A52 has substantially better battery health or physical condition.
- The A52 5G listing has uncertain bands, carrier activation, or unlock status.
- You prefer potentially lower power demand from LTE and a 90Hz display.
When should you choose neither?
Choose neither when either phone costs close to a newer Samsung A-series phone with a substantially longer advertised update policy. Also walk away from a unit with a swollen battery, screen burn-in, charging-port damage, cracked housing, unknown repair history, carrier lock, failed activation, or no reliable return window.
Samsung’s current US A-series page listed the Galaxy A27 5G from $349.99, Galaxy A37 5G from $449.99, and Galaxy A57 5G from $549.99 when checked on August 18, 2026. Those prices are time-sensitive and should be compared with the actual used-phone price rather than treated as a universal replacement recommendation. Newer phones cost more than a typical used A52, but a longer support period can change the total-value calculation.

How can you verify a used Galaxy A52 listing?
Use the following checklist before paying for a used or refurbished phone:
- Confirm the exact model number. Ask for the model shown in Settings or on the device documentation. Examples include SM-A525F, SM-A525M, and SM-A526U, but the correct model depends on the market.
- Identify the phone correctly. Confirm that the listing is an A52 LTE or A52 5G, not an A52s 5G, A52 5G UW, or another regional derivative.
- Check the carrier and unlock status. Confirm that the phone can be activated on the intended network and supports the required LTE, 5G, VoLTE, and emergency-calling functions.
- Check software status. Record the Android version and security-patch date, then compare the exact model and region with Samsung’s current support information.
- Assess battery health. Request a diagnostic screen or battery-health report where available. A documented replacement battery can matter more than a clean-looking back.
- Inspect the display. Look for AMOLED burn-in, dead pixels, discoloration, cracks, touch dead zones, and damage around the fingerprint reader.
- Test USB-C charging. Confirm that the port charges reliably and does not disconnect when the cable moves normally.
- Test the cameras and OIS. Take photos and video with every camera, check autofocus, and look for focus or stabilization problems.
- Test the fingerprint reader, speakers, microphone, headphone jack, NFC, SIM tray, and microSD slot. Regional configurations may not include every feature, so verify the features you actually need.
- Ask about water and repair history. Do not assume IP67 protection remains dependable after opening, impact, or third-party repair.
- Confirm the IMEI and return terms. Check that the phone is not reported lost or stolen and that the seller provides a practical return window or warranty.
What listing mistakes should you watch for?
Second-hand listings frequently use “Galaxy A52” as a broad name even when the phone is a different variant. A seller may call an LTE A52 an A52 5G because the software identifies the A52 family, or may advertise an A52s 5G as an A52 5G. Carrier-specific versions such as an A52 5G UW can also be mislabeled as unlocked international models.
Regional versions can differ in 5G and LTE bands, RAM, storage, NFC, SIM arrangement, firmware, and carrier activation. A US A52 5G and an international A52 5G should not be assumed to be interchangeable. The model number is more reliable than the listing title.
Refurbished phones can also contain aftermarket screens or batteries. Ask which components were replaced and whether the seller provides a warranty. A small specification advantage is not worth sacrificing a reliable battery, an intact display, or a return policy.
What about Samsung Certified Re-Newed phones?
Samsung’s current US Certified Re-Newed catalog does not list the Galaxy A52 or Galaxy A52 5G. The program is therefore not a direct official buying route for these two models, although it can be a safer alternative when comparing an older used A52 with a newer refurbished Samsung phone.
Samsung says the current Certified Re-Newed program includes a certified new battery, a one-year limited warranty, and a 147-point inspection. Check the official Samsung Certified Re-Newed page for current inventory and terms, because availability and eligible models can change.

Final recommendation by price and condition
If the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A52 5G are in similar condition and the price gap is small, buy the Galaxy A52 5G. The Snapdragon 750G, 120Hz display, and Sub-6GHz 5G make the 5G model more capable without sacrificing the shared camera system, battery capacity, headphone jack, microSD support, IP67 rating, or compact dimensions.
Best Value
- Ships in non-retail box; generic charger and USB Cable only.
- No any other accessories included.
- This device is GSM unlocked. GSM Compatible, Not compatible with : Any CDMA network like : Verizon, Virgin Mobile US or Boost. Network bands in regions may be different depending on the mobile operator and your location. Available storage is less and subject to change due to device software updates and apps usage.
- it's only support Wi-fi calling for Sprint. Not other carrier.
Buy the regular Galaxy A52 when the discount is substantial, LTE is sufficient, and the particular unit has clearly better battery health or condition. Do not pay extra for the A52 5G until the model number and carrier compatibility are confirmed.
In 2026, the most important comparison may be between either used A52 model and a newer supported phone. A cheap A52 can still be sensible as a budget or temporary device, but a newer Samsung A-series phone may be the better long-term choice when security updates, battery life, warranty coverage, and several years of use matter more than the initial purchase price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Galaxy A52 5G much faster than the Galaxy A52?
The Galaxy A52 5G is faster because it uses the Snapdragon 750G instead of the Galaxy A52’s Snapdragon 720G, but the difference is not a flagship-level jump. Gaming, graphics, app loading, camera processing, and sustained workloads benefit more than messaging, browsing, streaming, and other basic tasks.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Is the Galaxy A52 5G camera better than the Galaxy A52 camera?
No major camera upgrade separates the two models. Both advertise a 64MP OIS main camera, 12MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, 5MP depth, and 32MP selfie camera, although firmware and individual device condition can affect image results.
Does the Galaxy A52 5G work on every 5G network?
No. The Galaxy A52 5G supports Sub-6GHz 5G, but supported bands, VoLTE, carrier certification, SIM configuration, and activation compatibility vary by model and region. Verify the exact model number with the intended carrier before buying.
What is the difference between the Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A52s 5G?
The Galaxy A52s 5G is a separate model and should not be treated as the same phone as the Galaxy A52 5G. A used listing that says “A52 5G” should be checked by model number so that an A52 LTE, A52 5G, A52s 5G, or carrier-specific derivative is not confused with another.
Is the Galaxy A52 still worth buying in 2026?
The Galaxy A52 can still be reasonable as a low-cost or temporary phone when the battery, display, carrier compatibility, and price are good. The Galaxy A52 family launched in 2021, so buyers who need a long update horizon, a warranty, or dependable long-term security support should compare the cost with a newer Samsung A-series phone.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose the Galaxy A52 5G when the price difference is modest and the exact regional model works on your carrier. Choose the regular Galaxy A52 only when it is substantially cheaper or has materially better battery health and condition. If either phone approaches the cost of a newer Samsung A-series model, prioritize the newer phone’s support life and warranty.
