If your Galaxy A50’s touch screen is frozen or unresponsive, press and hold Power + Volume Down together for at least seven seconds. Samsung describes this as a soft reset—not a confirmed way to leave the phone powered off. Its normal shutdown flow still requires tapping the screen.
How to turn it off without a touch screen
For a temporary screen freeze or touch failure, Samsung’s A50 support guidance is to press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time for at least seven seconds. Samsung calls this a soft reset. Follow the model-specific instructions at Samsung Support.
- Press and hold Power + Volume Down simultaneously.
- Keep holding both buttons for at least seven seconds.
- Allow the phone to perform the soft reset.
This procedure is not established as a button-only shutdown that leaves the A50 powered off. A reset or restart and a completed shutdown are different outcomes.

Why the normal power-button sequence needs touch
The Galaxy A50 manual gives a separate flow for a normal shutdown: press and hold Side + Volume Down, tap Power off, then confirm when prompted. The button combination opens the power menu; it does not by itself complete the shutdown. With touch unavailable, you cannot complete the documented on-screen selections. If the button hold does not work
- Remove any external case and try the sequence again; it may obstruct the buttons.
- Make sure you press both buttons together rather than one after the other.
- Hold them for at least seven seconds, following Samsung’s soft-reset guidance.
What is not confirmed
The official instructions cited here do not verify a separate recovery-mode or other button-only method that shuts down every Galaxy A50 variant without touch. Menu details may vary by market variant and installed software; Samsung lists manuals for different software generations on its support page.
