Samsung announced the Galaxy A36 5G in India on 3 March 2025 at ₹32,999 for 8GB/128GB, ₹35,999 for 8GB/256GB, and ₹38,999 for 12GB/256GB. These are historical launch prices, not verified current quotes.

The two base figures are ₹5,000 apart, but that is not a current, same-date, same-memory price difference: Samsung’s number is a 2025 launch price for 8GB/128GB, and Xiaomi’s is a displayed store price for 6GB/128GB. Check both stores before buying and compare the same memory tier where available.
How do the displays and chipsets compare?
Samsung specifies a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a refresh rate up to 120Hz. Xiaomi’s India page lists an AMOLED screen at 2396 × 1080 and up to 120Hz, but does not state its size there. Both manufacturers therefore specify AMOLED and a maximum 120Hz refresh rate; the available India-page details do not establish a direct comparison of screen size or display quality.
The A36 uses a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, while the REDMI listing names a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 with a maximum listed clock speed of 2.3GHz. Those model names alone do not establish which phone is faster in everyday use, gaming, or sustained workloads; no directly comparable benchmark results are established here.

How do the cameras compare?
The A36 has three listed rear cameras: a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 5MP macro. Xiaomi’s India page lists a 50MP main camera and 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second; it does not establish an ultrawide or macro camera in the cited specifications. Samsung lists a 12MP front camera, compared with 8MP for the India REDMI model.
These are hardware and listed video-mode differences, not evidence that one phone takes better photos or video. Megapixel counts do not by themselves establish image quality, and no independent side-by-side camera evaluation is available in the cited material.
Which has the larger battery, and what does charging tell you?
Xiaomi lists an 8,000mAh typical battery for the India REDMI Note 17 5G, compared with 5,000mAh typical for the Galaxy A36 5G. Both are listed with 45W wired charging support. Capacity is a manufacturer rating, not a measured estimate of how many hours either phone lasts; usage, software, network conditions, and other factors affect runtime.

Xiaomi says the India package includes a 45W charger, a case, and a pre-applied screen protector, but also notes that box contents can vary by region and packaging version. Check the package details for the exact market and SKU rather than assuming those items are included everywhere.
Which phone offers the longer stated software support?
Samsung states that the A36 will receive up to six generations of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates in India. Xiaomi’s India product copy states four OS upgrades and six years of security updates for the REDMI Note 17 5G. On those stated terms, Samsung promises two more OS-upgrade generations; both list six years of security updates. These are manufacturer commitments, not a guarantee that updates arrive on the same schedule.
Do REDMI Note 17 5G specifications vary by region?
Yes. Xiaomi’s official India and Colombia pages list different specifications. The India page gives an 8,000mAh typical battery and an 8MP front camera; the Xiaomi Colombia specification page gives 7,700mAh typical and a 16MP front camera, and lists IP65 dust and water resistance. It also notes that connectivity and package contents can vary. Do not combine the Colombia rating or camera figure with the India model’s specifications as though they describe one global configuration.
Which should you choose?
- Consider the Galaxy A36 5G if its three-camera rear setup, stated IP67 rating, or six-generation Android OS-upgrade commitment matters most to you. Its cited India prices are launch prices from March 2025, so check a current offer before deciding.
- Consider the REDMI Note 17 5G if the India-listed 8,000mAh typical battery capacity or Xiaomi’s displayed 6GB/128GB price fits your priorities. Verify the current checkout price, local configuration, and included accessories.
- Compare your exact local versions if you are buying outside India: regional specifications, connectivity, box contents, and pricing may differ.
The published specifications can narrow the choice, but they do not settle real-world battery life, camera quality, or performance. Those outcomes are not established by the manufacturers’ specification listings alone.
