Short answer: This control stack divides the station into three coordinated jobs. Fuzzy-adaptive maximum-power-point tracking (MPPT) keeps the photovoltaic converter near the panel array’s changing maximum; a Kalman-family estimator infers battery state of charge (SOC) from a battery model and measured signals; and predictive energy management decides how PV power, stationary storage, grid exchange and EV demand should be scheduled. Lyapunov analysis can prove bounded or decreasing control errors for the mathematical model, but it is not evidence by itself that the station is thermally safe, cybersecure or field validated.
What the control stack actually coordinates
MPPT and the station energy-management system (EMS) operate at different levels. MPPT is a fast power-electronics function: it changes the PV converter’s operating point so the array supplies as much available power as conditions allow. The EMS is supervisory: it allocates that power among EV chargers, a stationary battery and the utility connection while respecting operating constraints.
A typical signal flow is:
- PV voltage and current measurements feed the MPPT controller and DC-DC converter.
- Battery voltage, current and temperature feed the SOC estimator.
- EV charging requests, PV forecasts, SOC limits, grid limits and tariffs (when available) feed the predictive EMS.
- The EMS sends power or current references to the bidirectional battery converter, EV chargers and grid-interface converter.
Keeping these roles separate prevents a common design error: treating an MPPT improvement as if it were automatically an improvement in station operating cost or battery life. More harvested PV is useful only when the EMS can route it without violating battery, charger, bus-voltage or grid constraints.

A PV array has a nonlinear current-voltage curve whose maximum-power point moves with irradiance, cell temperature and partial shading. Perturb-and-observe (P&O) methods are simple but can oscillate around the maximum and can move in the wrong direction during a rapid irradiance change. Incremental-conductance methods use the slope of the PV curve and can respond more deliberately, but still depend on thresholds and measurements.

Fuzzy-adaptive MPPT maps measured error and error change to a converter duty-cycle adjustment. Its rule base can make large corrections when the operating point is far from the maximum and small corrections near it, reducing steady-state hunting. An adaptive layer can retune rule parameters as conditions change. This flexibility costs more design effort and controller computation than basic P&O.
| Approach | Strengths | Trade-offs or evidence limits |
|---|---|---|
| P&O | Simple implementation and low computational burden. | Oscillation and transient mis-tracking can occur; the cited studies do not establish a single efficiency or settling-time value across all conditions. |
| Incremental conductance | Uses the PV-curve slope to distinguish movement toward or away from the maximum. | Sensor noise, threshold selection and rapid irradiance changes affect behavior; no common benchmark value is stated in the supplied studies. |
| Fuzzy-adaptive | Variable-step behavior and rule adaptation can improve transient response and partial-shading operation. | Requires rule design, membership-function tuning and verification over the intended array and converter range. |
| ANN or hybrid MPPT | Can learn nonlinear mappings and can be combined with Kalman estimation or model-predictive control. | Training data, inference resources and generalization outside the training regime must be demonstrated. |
What published simulations report
- An Energy Reports study (2026) reports 201.4 W steady-state output for fuzzy MPPT versus 183.5 W for conventional P&O, described as 9.8% higher in its tested EV-battery-charging simulation. Those wattages are setup-specific, not universal controller ratings.
- A Scientific African study (2025) reports a 99.93% reduction in tracking time and 0.56% total harmonic distortion for an ANN–Kalman MPPT plus model-predictive-control inverter in a simulated 5 kW solar EV charging station.
- A Scientific Reports study (2026) reports 80.9% tracking efficiency under partial shading, 4.5 percentage points above P&O, and 2.40% THD for a 10 kW bifacial-PV EV system using adaptive fuzzy MPPT and a hierarchical EMS.
These results come from different array sizes, converter models, shading profiles and definitions of efficiency or settling time. They should be compared directionally, not combined into one performance claim.

How a Kalman-family estimator produces battery SOC
SOC cannot be measured directly while a station is operating. The estimator propagates a battery model with measured current and then corrects that prediction using voltage (and, where available, temperature). A Kalman filter weights model prediction against sensor data according to estimated uncertainty. Nonlinear battery models generally require a nonlinear Kalman variant; the exact variant and parameter set for the exact-title controller are not confirmed in the available record.

Why it is preferable to raw coulomb counting
- Current integration accumulates sensor bias and errors over time. Model-based correction can pull the estimate back toward a voltage-consistent value.
- The estimator can continue updating during changing PV and EV load instead of assuming a steady operating point.
- Its accuracy depends on battery-model fidelity, current and voltage sensor calibration, temperature coverage, initial SOC and observability of the chosen operating regime.
An implementation should identify battery parameters over the temperature and current range that the station will actually use, then test convergence from deliberately wrong initial SOC values. Cell imbalance, aging and hysteresis can create errors if the model represents only a new, balanced pack.

How predictive energy management allocates power
Predictive EMS uses a forecast horizon to choose present and near-future power commands. At each control interval it can optimize competing goals such as serving EV demand, limiting grid import, keeping SOC inside safe bounds, reducing battery stress and maintaining DC-bus regulation. Only the first command is applied; the horizon is then shifted and the problem is solved again using new measurements.
Constraints the optimizer must enforce
- PV converter and inverter current and voltage limits.
- Battery charge, discharge, SOC and temperature limits.
- EVSE power limits, connector availability and requested departure energy.
- Grid import/export limits and any time-varying tariff or demand constraint.
- DC-bus voltage and ramp-rate limits so that a mathematically optimal schedule does not destabilize the power stage.
Forecast error is unavoidable. A robust design therefore reserves battery or grid headroom for sudden cloud cover and unplanned EV arrivals rather than scheduling every watt of predicted PV. The optimization also needs a fallback mode—for example, bounded local control of the converters—if forecasts, communications or the solver fail.

A related Discover Environment study (2026) models approximately 30 kW of EV charging demand with PV, a standby battery and grid exchange using an ANN-based EMS. That model illustrates the coordination problem but does not validate the exact fuzzy-adaptive/Kalman/Lyapunov stack.
What Lyapunov stability proves—and what it does not
Lyapunov analysis selects a non-negative function of control errors and system states, often written as V(x). If the closed-loop model keeps V from increasing, and under stronger conditions makes its time derivative negative, the analysis can establish stability or convergence of the modeled errors. In an EV station, candidate errors might include DC-bus-voltage deviation, battery-current tracking error or SOC-reference error.

The conclusion is conditional on the equations, parameter bounds, sampling assumptions, actuator limits and disturbance model used in the proof. It does not prove safe temperatures, insulation coordination, electromagnetic compatibility, connector safety, cybersecurity, long-term battery aging or resilience to unmodeled faults. Hardware-in-the-loop and field tests are needed to examine those effects.
What is actually validated for the exact-title claim
The exact-title publisher record and DOI metadata were not independently retrieved. A secondary report dated 18 October 2026 attributes the following figures to the title, but they should be treated as provisional until the primary paper and its test conditions are available.

A practical implementation and verification sequence
- Define the plant and safety envelope. Specify PV strings, converter ratings, battery chemistry and allowable SOC, current and temperature ranges, EVSE limits, grid interconnection rules and sensor accuracy.
- Characterize the PV converter. Measure voltage, current and duty-cycle limits, then tune fuzzy membership functions against irradiance ramps and partial-shading cases. Record oscillation, settling time and harvested energy using the same test protocol for every MPPT method.
- Identify the battery model. Fit parameters across relevant temperatures and C-rates. Validate voltage residuals and SOC convergence from multiple initial guesses before connecting the estimator to supervisory control.
- Integrate the predictive EMS. Add EV demand, PV forecast uncertainty, grid constraints and battery limits to the optimization. Use a bounded fallback controller when the solver misses its deadline or communications disappear.
- Check closed-loop claims in stages. Start with software simulation, then controller-in-the-loop or DSP execution, power-hardware-in-the-loop, and finally supervised field operation. At each stage log bus voltage, PV power, battery current and temperature, SOC error, EV energy delivered, grid exchange and constraint violations.
- Audit the Lyapunov assumptions. Confirm that measured parameter ranges, delays, saturation and disturbances in the real implementation remain inside the proof’s assumptions. If they do not, describe the result as a nominal-model analysis rather than a field guarantee.
Bottom line
Fuzzy adaptation can make PV power extraction less oscillatory and more tolerant of changing or shaded conditions; Kalman estimation can limit SOC drift when the battery model and sensors are credible; and predictive EMS can coordinate PV, storage, EVs and the grid instead of optimizing each converter in isolation. Lyapunov analysis adds a valuable model-based stability argument. The exact-title performance numbers remain provisional, however, and a credible engineering claim still requires reproducible test conditions and hardware validation beyond simulation.
