Fujifilm’s new square-format instant camera is the instax SQUARE 2, not a “Square 3.” It succeeds the SQ1 with a three-position physical Mood Filter switch, a new Landscape focus mode and automatic exposure in a compact analog body. FUJIFILM Europe expects it in late October 2026 at a €109.99 manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).
What the instax SQUARE 2 is
The SQUARE 2 is an analog instant camera that produces 1:1 square prints on separately sold instax SQUARE film. It uses silver-halide instant-film technology; Fujifilm says each photograph develops over approximately 90 seconds and the finished print is water resistant.
Fujifilm announced the camera in Misty White, Slate Blue and Brick Red. The European package includes a hand strap, quick-start guide, four AA batteries and a one-year limited warranty.

How the analog Mood Filters work
The camera’s defining control is a switch beside the lens. Moving it physically places a colored filter in front of the lens, so the effect is created optically before the image reaches the film rather than applied by software after capture.

Warm

Off
Off removes the filter and gives the classic instax rendering. Because the filters are physical, the selected look is recorded directly on the exposed film and cannot be removed afterward.

SQUARE 2 keeps automatic exposure and automatic flash, making it a point-and-shoot camera rather than a manual exposure system. A built-in mirror helps frame close-up selfies.

The addition of Landscape mode broadens the camera’s focus coverage compared with the basic shooting choices associated with the SQ1. It does not, however, make SQUARE 2 a digital or hybrid camera: there is no indication of a screen, saved files or computational filter processing.
Film, Soft Haze and running cost
Standard instax SQUARE film is required and is sold separately. Fujifilm is also introducing instax SQUARE Soft Haze, a film designed with reduced saturation and contrast, glowing highlights and warm, diffused shadows. Each Soft Haze pack contains 10 exposures and has a €11.99 MSRP in the European announcement. Availability is expected in late October 2026.

Since every exposure consumes a sheet of film, buyers should budget for film as well as the camera body. The €11.99 figure is Fujifilm Europe’s stated MSRP for Soft Haze in 2026; retailer prices and prices outside Europe can differ.

FUJIFILM Europe GmbH lists late October 2026 availability and a €109.99 MSRP for SQUARE 2. Fujifilm’s headquarters release specifies October 28, 2026 onward in its issuing market but does not provide a price. That means the European price and timing should not be treated as a worldwide launch guarantee; local release dates, taxes and retail pricing may vary.

SQUARE 2 versus the SQ1
SQUARE 2 is positioned as the SQ1’s successor. Its clearest documented upgrades are the physical Warm/Cool/Off filter control and the additional Landscape focus range. Both cameras belong to the analog instax SQUARE system, so the film format remains square and the consumable is separate from the camera.
There is no published independent image-quality test or sales data establishing that SQUARE 2 produces sharper or objectively better photographs than SQ1. The practical advantage is creative control: you can choose an optical color mood before pressing the shutter while retaining automatic exposure, flash and selfie assistance.
Accessories and what is in the box
Fujifilm lists a dedicated SQUARE 2 camera case and an acrylic frame for SQUARE prints as separate accessories. Neither is included in the European camera package, which contains the camera-related essentials, strap, guide, batteries and warranty described above.
Who should buy it
- Choose SQUARE 2 if you want square analog prints, simple automatic operation and switchable optical Warm or Cool looks.
- Consider an SQ1 if you find it substantially cheaper and do not need the physical filters or Landscape mode; SQUARE 2’s superiority in image quality has not been independently established.
- Plan for film before buying: standard SQUARE film or Soft Haze is a required, separately purchased consumable.
For buyers seeking a straightforward square instant camera with built-in optical color effects, SQUARE 2 is a meaningful SQ1 update rather than a new digital platform. Its late-October 2026 launch, €109.99 European MSRP and €11.99 Soft Haze film price are the currently stated figures, subject to regional confirmation.
