In cPanel, open Files → FTP Accounts, find the account you use, and choose its FTP-details action. The details show the username, server, and port. If your domain is not pointed to your hosting provider by nameservers, use your hosting account IP as the host instead. The FTP password is hidden, so reset it if you do not know it.
Find the details in cPanel
- Sign in to cPanel for the hosting account.
- Open Files → FTP Accounts.
- Locate the FTP account for the website you want to access.
- Use the account’s FTP-details action to view its connection information.
The details include the account username, server or host, and port. The cPanel example uses port 21 for plain FTP. The row also provides actions to change the password or quota and delete the account.
Which host, username, port, and password should you enter?
- Host: Use the server shown with the account. If the domain is not pointed to your hosting provider by nameservers, use the hosting account IP as the host; the FTP server address will not work as the connection host in that case.
- Username: Use the username belonging to the specific FTP account and website you intend to access.
- Port: Use 21 for plain FTP, as shown in the instructions.
- Password: Enter that FTP account’s password. It is not displayed in the dashboard; if you have forgotten it, change it on the FTP Accounts page rather than substituting an SSH password.
The FTP connection guide shows these fields in a client setup. Use the protocol supported by your hosting plan and site.

The hosting dashboard and cPanel have separate navigation. In the dashboard, go to Websites → Dashboard for the applicable PHP/HTML site, then open Files → FTP Accounts. The FTP Access card displays the main account’s connection details, with additional accounts farther down the page. The page also shows the upload directory; for the primary root domain, it is typically public_html. These dashboard labels do not describe the cPanel path.

Reset a forgotten FTP password
You cannot retrieve the existing password from the dashboard. On the FTP Accounts page, select Change FTP Password, set a new strong, unique password, and store it securely. The password instructions apply to web and cloud plans and exclude AI Builder sites.
Check whether FTP is available for your site and plan
- AI Builder sites: FTP is unavailable.
- Agency plans: The plan-specific dashboard guide says agency plans support SFTP only, while the general connection guide says FTP is available on agency plans. Because those instructions conflict, do not assume plain FTP is supported; check your account’s current remote-access instructions or ask your hosting provider to confirm. SFTP is a separate protocol from plain FTP.

Fix a 530 login error
A 530 error indicates a login problem. Check the account-specific values before changing settings:

- Confirm that the host belongs to the correct hosting plan. If the domain is not pointed to your hosting provider by nameservers, try the account IP.
- Check that the username is for the intended website and FTP account. Username patterns can differ for main domains, addon domains, and additional FTP accounts.
- Enter the FTP password, not the SSH password. If you are unsure of the FTP password, reset it.
- If the host, username, and password are correct but the error persists, try the server name shown in Plan Details instead of the IP.
