The Frigidaire GRFS2853AD is a roomy, standard-depth French door refrigerator with useful storage and dual ice makers, but an independent test found uneven temperatures inside the refrigerator compartment. It is a better fit if capacity and convenience matter more to you than demonstrated temperature uniformity. Before buying, also check its full handle depth and 90-degree door clearance against your kitchen and delivery route.
What is the Frigidaire GRFS2853AD?
The GRFS2853AD is Frigidaire’s Gallery 27.8-cubic-foot-class standard-depth French door refrigerator in black stainless steel. The stainless steel finish uses model number GRFS2853AF. RTINGS says the two finishes are otherwise specification-identical. Frigidaire lists the model as ENERGY STAR certified, without Wi-Fi connectivity, and with a one-year parts-and-labor warranty. Check the warranty terms that apply where you buy.
Frigidaire’s product page describes features including CrispSeal Plus automatic-humidity crispers with an ethylene adsorber, a temperature-controlled drawer, an external water and ice dispenser, dual ice makers, an EvenTemp cooling system, LED lighting, and a PurePour water filter with a filter indicator. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent proof of a particular storage or cooling outcome. Frigidaire also says of its air filter, “Our air filter performs better than baking soda, capturing undesirable smells to keep your fridge fresh for longer.” That is the manufacturer’s claim.

Temperature management is the main caution in RTINGS’ independent review. RTINGS awarded the refrigerator a 7.2 everyday-use score and found consistent freezer temperatures, but poor temperature uniformity in the refrigerator cabinet. In its test, the upper portion was warmer than the setpoint while the lower shelf was colder. RTINGS measured a 5.4°F (3.0°C) shelf gradient and a 3.2°F (1.8°C) door-bin offset.

Those are test findings, not a guarantee that every individual unit or kitchen will behave identically. Still, they are relevant if you regularly store temperature-sensitive foods. RTINGS advises putting those items on a middle shelf rather than assuming the whole fresh-food compartment stays at one temperature. The model’s EvenTemp name is not a substitute for this independent test result.
How much usable storage does it provide?
Frigidaire lists 27.8 cubic feet of total capacity: 18.8 cubic feet for fresh food and 9 cubic feet for the freezer. RTINGS considers fresh-food capacity a strength and also notes large lower freezer bins. The tradeoff is layout: the in-fridge ice maker occupies fresh-food space, and RTINGS found limited space on the freezer’s top shelf. Capacity figures describe volume, not how easily every household’s containers or groceries will fit.

Frigidaire lists the following dimensions. Its specification sheet is version 11/21 and warns that specifications may change, so confirm the current product details and installation instructions before purchase.

Do not rely on cabinet depth alone: the handles add depth, and the open-door measurement matters for access and nearby counters or walls. Measure the installation opening and the entire delivery path, including turns and doorways. Verify the required clearances, water connection, and applicable electrical, plumbing, and other code requirements against Frigidaire’s current installation guide; the listed dimensions alone do not establish that a particular kitchen is suitable.

What are the energy use and ownership considerations?
Frigidaire’s specification sheet lists annual energy use of 725 kWh and ENERGY STAR certification. The sheet is labeled version 11/21, so use the current product listing and applicable local information when checking specifications.
RTINGS reports favorable service and parts observations in its review: 82% common-parts availability and 95% critical-parts availability on its stated 30-day average, plus authorized service coverage of 97.0% of its tested population. The manufacturer lists a water filter and filter indicator, but the cited product information does not establish a replacement-filter part number. Confirm compatibility through current model-specific documentation or a parts lookup before ordering a filter.
Who should consider the GRFS2853AD?
- Consider it if you want a large fresh-food section, lower freezer bins, external water and ice, and dual ice makers, and can organize temperature-sensitive food on a middle shelf.
- Look more closely at alternatives if even temperatures throughout the refrigerator cabinet are a priority, or if you need more freezer top-shelf room or do not want an in-fridge ice maker.
RTINGS names the Frigidaire FRFN2813AF as a similar alternative with more capacity and no in-fridge ice maker, and the GE Profile PGE29BYTFS as an alternative with dual-evaporator cooling. These are options to investigate, not current price or head-to-head performance recommendations. In its comparison, RTINGS says the LG LF29H8330S maintains more uniform temperatures and runs quieter, while the Frigidaire has a more consistent supply of spare parts and a farther-reaching authorized service network in that publisher’s comparison. Local service and current model specifications still need checking.

Verdict
The GRFS2853AD’s appeal is straightforward: generous listed fresh-food capacity, a useful French door layout, and multiple water-and-ice conveniences. Its central compromise is less straightforward: RTINGS’ test found uneven refrigerator temperatures, so shoppers who need consistently uniform cooling should weigh that finding heavily. Measure the full installation and delivery path, and compare the storage layout—not just the total cubic feet—before deciding.
