Microsoft PC Manager can help you find cleanup options and manage large files, but it is not the only way to reclaim space. For a one-time cleanup, Windows Disk Cleanup lets you review file categories before deleting them. For recurring cleanup, Storage Sense can automatically remove selected temporary files and Recycle Bin contents. Choose based on what you want to remove, and review each setting before confirming.
How to clean up disk space with PC Manager
Start by checking which drive is low on space in Windows’ storage settings. Then open PC Manager and look for its cleanup and large-file management options. Microsoft describes PC Manager as an interface for cleanup, large-file management, and access to Storage Sense; exact labels and availability can vary by release, so follow the wording shown in your copy rather than relying on a fixed menu path. - Open PC Manager and select its cleanup or storage-management option.
- Review the cleanup choices and any file details presented before proceeding.
- Use the large-file management option to identify personal files you may want to move or remove. Check each file before deleting it.
- If you want Windows’ own cleanup controls, open Disk Cleanup or configure Storage Sense instead.
Cleanup choices determine what is deleted. Do not approve selections you do not understand, and do not remove unfamiliar system folders manually.

Use Disk Cleanup for a one-time, category-based review
Disk Cleanup lets you choose categories of files to remove. Microsoft notes that some categories may already be selected, so inspect the checkboxes and their descriptions instead of clicking through without reviewing them. Microsoft’s Disk Cleanup instructions

- Type Disk Cleanup in taskbar search and open the result.
- Choose the drive you want to clean, if prompted.
- Read the descriptions and review the selected file categories. Clear any category whose contents you do not want to remove.
- Select OK and confirm only after checking your choices.
- To inspect additional system categories, reopen Disk Cleanup and choose Clean up system files. Review the added selections and descriptions before confirming.
The categories available depend on the drive and Windows state. The key safeguard is to understand the selected categories before deletion.
Set up Storage Sense for selected automatic cleanup
Storage Sense can automatically remove selected temporary files and Recycle Bin contents. Its behavior is configurable, and a device’s administrative policies may affect available settings or what happens. Review the controls in Windows storage settings before enabling a schedule. When cloud-backed files are involved, files marked Always keep on this device are exempt from Storage Sense management. Check the setting and file status before relying on automatic cleanup to manage cloud storage.

Use PC Manager if you want its cleanup interface or large-file management. Choose Disk Cleanup when you want to review categories for a one-time deletion. Choose Storage Sense when you want selected cleanup to happen automatically. These tools serve different purposes, and you can use Windows’ built-in options without relying on PC Manager.

What can you delete when Windows is low on disk space?
Begin with categories and files you can identify, rather than manually deleting system folders. Review Disk Cleanup’s category descriptions, check what Storage Sense is configured to remove, and inspect large personal files before deleting or moving them. If cleanup is not enough, Microsoft also lists external storage such as a USB drive or SD card as an option for moving files off the PC. The Microsoft pages cited here do not establish a typical amount of space PC Manager frees or show that cleanup produces a particular performance improvement.
