A Reddit author, posting as ogvelocity4705, reports finding 35+ text-generation API providers that require no credit card and automatically replenish a free quota. That is the author’s count and screening claim—not an independently verified, exhaustive list or a guarantee that every entry still qualifies today.
What the 35+ count represents
The Reddit post describes a directory assembled after the author reviewed hundreds of providers. Its stated filter is specific: no credit card required and a free quota that refills automatically. The author says the focus is text-output models and that a top-10 table highlights coding options. A linked GitHub resource is described as containing quotas, latency figures, context windows, and API base URLs.
The post author’s wording—“So, I set a strict standard: no credit card, and the free quota must automatically refill.”—explains that list’s method. The post’s publication date is not established here, and its count has not been independently audited. Treat “35+” as the author’s reported result, not a current industry statistic.
What “free and replenishable” should mean
A replenishable allowance becomes available again on a recurring schedule, such as daily or monthly. That differs from a one-time trial balance that is depleted permanently once used. But a recurring free quota is still limited, and providers measure it in different ways.
#1 Best Overall
- Requests: caps the number of calls, often within a time window.
- Tokens: limits prompt and generated text volume. Check whether the cap is per minute, day, month, model, or account.
- Compute units: may be consumed at different rates depending on model or task.
- Credits: represent a billing allowance; find out when they reset or expire, what they cover, and whether using more can trigger charges.
These units are not directly comparable. A large request allowance may be restrictive for long prompts, while a token allowance says little about how many short calls a workload can make. A quota described as “free” also does not, by itself, establish that it renews.
How to check whether an entry fits your needs
Use the directory as a shortlist, then confirm the current terms with the provider’s own documentation and account dashboard. Record the terms for the model and account you will actually use; a provider’s general free-tier description may not apply to every model, region, or account type.

- Used Book in Good Condition
- Confirm the refill rule. Find the reset interval, reset time or timezone if stated, and whether unused allowance carries over. Distinguish a recurring quota from a one-time signup grant.
- Identify the cap and its scope. Record the unit, amount, time window, and whether the limit applies per model, account, project, or API key. Check for separate rate limits as well as usage quotas.
- Verify model access. Check that the text-generation model you want is available under the free allowance now. A provider may offer free access to some models but not others.
- Check signup and billing friction. Verify whether the provider asks for a payment card, phone number, identity check, or account approval, and whether requirements vary by country.
- Review data terms. Look for retention periods, whether submitted prompts or outputs may be used for training, and any regional or account-specific differences. Do not treat a short marketing phrase as a complete privacy commitment.
- Confirm integration details. If you plan to use an API, check its current endpoint, compatibility claims, SDK support, and any model-specific requirements in first-party documentation.
- Assess practical reliability for your workload. Compare published availability and rate-limit behavior, or test them yourself under a defined workload. Treat latency figures as useful only when the measurement conditions and date are clear.
Why account type changes the meaning of “free”
Hugging Face’s Inference Providers documentation illustrates why the account category matters: it says Free users have no included monthly Inference Provider credits, while PRO users and Team or Enterprise organizations receive $2 in monthly credits. The documentation says credits apply automatically before pay-as-you-go usage is billed. This is an example of one service’s account structure, not a rule for other providers; check the provider’s current billing documentation and the account you intend to use.
How much confidence to place in published limits
A comparison updated September 29, 2026 describes variation in free models, rate limits, card requirements, and data terms, and says some exact limits are not published universally or may appear only in an account dashboard. Its figures are dated snapshots, not durable guarantees; it also reports that none of the APIs it reviewed is unlimited. Use such comparisons to identify what to check, then rely on current first-party terms for a decision.

Quota names and values can change along with model catalogs, billing rules, and data policies. If you compare providers, note the date, geography, account type, model, and reset schedule beside each figure. Without those qualifiers, a number can look more universal than it is.

For coding or chat, the headline quota is only one part of fit. Start with the task and compare the specific free model’s availability, usable context, output limits, and integration requirements. Then weigh quota units against your expected prompt and response lengths, along with access requirements and data handling. A provider that passes the no-card and recurring-quota filter may still be a poor fit if its model, limits, or terms do not suit your use.
