Free FiveM hosting can mean two very different things: running FXServer on your own Windows or Linux computer, or using a provider’s no-cost managed tier. In both cases, the FiveM software and server registration key may cost nothing, but computing power, bandwidth, storage, backups, support and uptime are not automatically free. The provider’s written limits—and your own hardware and connection if you self-host—determine how many players you can actually support.
What “free FiveM hosting” actually means
FiveM does not offer one universal free-hosting plan. Cfx.re supports self-hosting and game-server providers, so the phrase can describe either an independently operated server or a managed service with a free tier. The distinction matters because you exchange money for different responsibilities.
Self-hosting on your own computer
With self-hosting, you supply the machine, internet connection, electricity and administration. You install and update FXServer, configure the network path, protect the administration panel, maintain databases and make backups. There is no hosting invoice, but the machine must remain online whenever players need the server. Your home upload speed, router configuration, hardware reliability and internet-provider policies become part of the server’s limits.

A managed host may install FXServer, allocate a game port and give you a txAdmin address. That removes much of the operating-system and network work, but the provider controls the practical limits. Free accounts commonly have restrictions on CPU time, memory, storage, player slots, idle time, ports, databases, backups or support. Read the current terms rather than relying on the word “unlimited.”

What you receive from the official FiveM stack

txAdmin’s role is operational: it helps you manage and monitor a FiveM server. It is not a separate hosting service. On a managed plan, the host may expose txAdmin for you; on a self-hosted machine, you operate the panel and its security yourself.
Hardware, operating system and connection requirements
Cfx.re recommends an x86-64 system running Linux or Windows (7/2008 R2 or newer in its stated FAQ), decent upstream connectivity and preferably a multi-core processor. Those are baseline platform recommendations, not a promise that every script pack or player population will run acceptably on minimum hardware.

- Processor: A multi-core CPU gives the server more room for framework logic, scripts and database activity.
- Memory: Leave headroom for the operating system, FXServer, txAdmin, databases and resource caches; a provider’s advertised memory allocation may be shared or capped.
- Storage: Resources, logs, database files and backups all consume space. Confirm whether a free tier includes persistent storage.
- Upstream connection: Players depend on your upload capacity and stability. A fast download plan does not necessarily provide sufficient upstream bandwidth.
- Availability: A self-hosted PC must stay powered on and connected. Sleep settings, reboots and household outages become player-visible downtime.
How to set up a free server
The exact installer screens vary by operating system and provider, but the sequence below reflects the required pieces without assuming a particular host.
- Create or sign in to a Cfx.re account. You need the account to create a server registration key and manage platform services.
- Choose the operating model. For self-hosting, select an x86-64 Windows or Linux machine with reliable upstream connectivity. For managed hosting, confirm that the free tier permits FiveM, gives you persistent files and exposes the ports and database access your resources require.
- Install or provision FXServer. Download the server artifacts through the official distribution process, or let the managed provider install them. txAdmin is included with the FXServer stack.
- Create the registration key. Keep the key private and place it only in the server configuration or provider field intended for it.
- Use txAdmin to deploy a recipe or configure the server. Set the server name, resources, permissions and startup settings. A recipe can provide a repeatable base, but review every resource before enabling it.
- Secure administration. Set a strong txAdmin password, limit administrator accounts to people who need them, and avoid exposing credentials in shared configuration files or chat.
- Configure the network. On a self-hosted machine, follow the current FXServer and router guidance for the required network path. On a managed host, ask which ports are assigned and whether you can add additional endpoints.
- Test privately first. Join with a small group, watch txAdmin logs and check resource errors before advertising a public session. Test a restart and confirm that configuration and database data persist.
- Set an update and backup routine. Record the artifact version, export configuration and database data, and verify that a backup can actually be restored.
Do not install a large framework until you know whether the provider allows its dependencies, database engine, scheduled jobs and network ports. Some free services let you create a server but prevent the background processes or persistent storage that a framework needs.

How many players can a free server hold?
Platform capacity and free-tier capacity are different numbers. Cfx.re’s current hosting information says OneSync Infinity supports up to 48 players by default. It also says Element Club can enable up to 2,048 players. These are platform-level figures, not a guarantee that a particular free host—or your own computer—can sustain those populations.

Player count is only one workload measure. Framework scripts, voice, inventories, vehicles, AI, database queries and scheduled jobs can make a smaller server heavier than a lightly configured server with more slots. Watch server tick behavior, resource errors, memory use and database latency while adding players instead of treating a headline slot number as a performance guarantee.

Free-tier terms to check before committing
Ask for written answers to each item below. If a provider cannot state a limit, assume it can change or be enforced without much notice.

What happens when a free server gets too big?
Growth usually appears as several pressures at once: more players generate more script events, the database receives more reads and writes, logs consume storage, and players expect longer uptime. A free tier may respond by throttling CPU, stopping the instance, suspending the account or imposing a lower slot count. Even if the process remains online, lag, delayed interactions and resource timeouts can make the server unusable.

Signs you are reaching the limit
- Tick or frame warnings increase as players join.
- txAdmin logs show resource errors, timeouts or repeated restarts.
- Database actions become slow, causing inventories, characters or transactions to save late.
- Memory or storage stays near the plan limit, especially after enabling logs and large resources.
- The provider sends CPU-limit, traffic-limit or suspension notices.
- Players report disconnects or inconsistent state while the host dashboard appears “online.”
A sensible scaling sequence
- Measure which resources and database queries consume the most time rather than immediately adding more slots.
- Remove unused resources, reduce excessive polling and archive old logs.
- Confirm that backups and exports work before changing providers or rebuilding the server.
- Move to a larger managed allocation or a self-hosted machine with more CPU, memory and upstream capacity.
- Increase the public slot count only after a controlled test confirms that scripts, database activity and network performance remain stable.
A free server is usually a good fit for learning, prototyping and small private sessions. A public roleplay community needs predictable resources, support, backups and uptime; those requirements commonly exceed what a no-cost tier is designed to provide.
For a managed test, Godlike.Host’s free FiveM server card provides 1 GB of memory and 10 slots, with limited panel features and one location; it must be extended every three hours. It is not on Cfx.re’s list of authorized FiveM hosts (fivem.net, 10 Oct 2026).
Self-hosting versus managed free hosting

When to upgrade and how monetization fits
When reliability, support or capacity matters more than a zero monthly bill, use the hosting partners listed through Cfx.re’s official hosting channel. Cfx.re also announced additional approved providers in March 2025. Approval does not remove the need to compare resources, backups, export rights and suspension terms, but it gives you a defensible starting point for finding a supported host.
