Godlike.Host offers hosted Core Keeper servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Yes, you can host a Core Keeper world for free, but no hosted option is truly unlimited. The most dependable zero-cost method is running the official Core Keeper Dedicated Server tool on your own computer. The trade-off is uptime: your world is reachable only while that computer and the server process remain running.
Free third-party hosts can keep a world online without using your PC, but they attach conditions such as advertising, memory caps, slot limits, forced extensions, or short trials. Use a trial to test connectivity, choose self-hosting for an ongoing small group, and budget for a paid plan when you need predictable 24/7 availability.
Free Core Keeper hosting options at a glance
The following limits are the terms advertised for these options when they were listed. Provider pricing, trial periods, resource allocations and policies can change, so confirm the current offer before creating a world.
| Option | What you receive | Important limits | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-host on your PC | Free Core Keeper Dedicated Server Steam Tool | World is online only while your computer and server process are running | Regular play with a small group when someone can host |
| Squadnox free server | Ad-supported private server; no artificial slot limit stated | Advertising funds the service; advertised capacity is up to 8 CPU cores and 16 GB RAM | A hosted world when you accept ads and variable free-tier policy |
| AxentHost free server | No-card server with no slot limit stated | Memory from 2 GB to 16 GB is assigned through credits; offer is promotional | Testing a hosted world without paying or entering card details |
| Four-slot free tier | Hosted server in one available location | 1 GB RAM, four slots, and a required extension every three hours | Short sessions with a very small party |
| GHosting trial | Temporary hosted server | 48 hours; no card, subscription or automatic renewal | Testing setup and joining before choosing a long-term host |
| Nodecraft trial | Temporary hosted server | 24 hours; no card required | A one-day connectivity test |
| Game Host Bros paid entry | Hosted plan with unlimited player slots | Advertised from $11.99 per month; price and terms can change | Persistent hosting without free-tier restrictions |
There is no evidence of a permanently free, unlimited hosted Core Keeper server. Free offers generally exchange money for another constraint: advertisements, lower memory, a small player cap, manual time extensions, or an expiry date.

Self-host Core Keeper for free with the official server tool
What the tool is
Steam lists Core Keeper Dedicated Server as a free Tool, separate from the game itself. The dedicated-server App ID is 1963720; the game’s App ID is 1621690. You do not need to buy a second game copy to download the server tool, but the computer running it must stay powered on and connected for friends to join.
Windows/Steam setup
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Change the library filter to Tools.
- Install Core Keeper Dedicated Server.
- Launch it. In the launcher, leave Launch Dedicated Server selected and choose Play.
- Wait for the server to start, then note the displayed Game ID. Give that ID to the people you want to invite through Core Keeper’s join flow.
The dedicated-server process is the online session. If you close it, the server is no longer available. A desktop, mini-PC or spare laptop can run it, but account for electricity, operating-system updates, sleep settings and any reboot that interrupts the process.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHeadless installation on Linux
A third-party setup guide gives this SteamCMD sequence for downloading or updating the dedicated server:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 1963720 validate +quit
For Linux builds that require a display context while running headlessly, the same guide says to provide xvfb. Exact package names and service-manager steps vary by distribution, so treat this as the download command rather than a complete universal Linux service file. Keep the process supervised if you need automatic restarts, and test that the world saves correctly before relying on the machine unattended.

Connectivity, ports and crossplay
Published setup advice is inconsistent about networking. One guide says the official flow normally works without port forwarding. A Steam community discussion identifies UDP ports 27015–27016 as the defaults and suggests trying without forwarding first, then forwarding those ports if friends cannot connect. Because router models, firewalls and network-address translation differ, use this order:
- Start the server and have a friend try the Game ID while you are on the same normal home connection.
- Allow the dedicated server through the operating system firewall when prompted.
- If remote friends still cannot connect, check the router’s outbound and inbound rules and test UDP 27015–27016.
- After any router change, restart the server and test again. Do not expose additional ports or disable the firewall broadly.
PC versions from Steam, Epic and GOG can play together. Console-to-PC crossplay is not available according to the cited setup information, so a console player cannot join a PC-hosted world through that crossplay path.
Hosted free tiers: what you trade for zero price
Ad-supported capacity
Squadnox advertises free private servers funded by ads, with no artificial player-slot limit stated and capacity of up to eight CPU cores and 16 GB of RAM. Those figures describe the advertised ceiling, not a guaranteed allocation for every free instance. Ads and changing free-service policies are the price of avoiding a monthly bill.
Credit-based memory
AxentHost advertises a no-card free server with no slot limit stated. Its promotional page says memory can be set from 2 GB to 16 GB through credits. Read the credit rules carefully: a nominal upper memory value does not tell you how quickly credits are earned, whether they expire, or how long the selected allocation remains active.

- 【AMD Ryzen 3 5300U CPU: Outperforms N150 & 3500U】 BOSGAME E5 mini PC is powered by the TSMC 7nm FinFET architecture AMD Ryzen 3 5300U processor (4 Cores, 8 Threads, up to 3.8GHz boost, 6MB total cache). Run 30+ browser tabs, large Excel sheets, and Zoom meetings simultaneously without system lag.
- 【8GB DDR4 RAM & 256GB NVMe SSD Storage】 Installed with high-speed 8GB DDR4 dual-channel memory and a fast 256GB M.2 2280 SSD, eliminating slow boot times and application loading delays. To accommodate growing data requirements, the upgradeable hardware design features dual SODIMM slots that allow you to expand memory up to 64GB RAM, ensuring smooth operation during heavy multitasking.
- 【High-Capacity Dual M.2 SSD Storage Expansion】 Never worry about running out of space for your business files. In addition to the pre-installed 256GB system drive, the motherboard houses an extra empty internal M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 3.0 slot. This allows you to easily add a second solid-state drive for up to an additional 2TB of storage capacity (upgrades not included) without needing to remove or reinstall the original operating system.
- 【Radeon 6-Core Graphics & Triple 4K Displays】 Integrated with official AMD Radeon Graphics (6 Graphics Cores, 1500 MHz frequency) for casual gaming, photo editing, and crisp 4K media decoding. Featuring 1x HDMI 2.0 port, 1x DisplayPort, and 1x Full-Function Type-C port, the E5 outputs true 4K@60Hz resolution to three monitors at once. This multi-screen setup eliminates constant window-switching for traders, programmers, and office workers.
- 【Dual 2.5GbE LAN Ports for Advanced Networking】 Experience fast wired network transmission speeds up to 2500Mbps without lagging or buffering. The integration of dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports (powered by Realtek RTL8125 controller) makes this compact computer an exceptional hardware choice for tech enthusiasts. Easily configure it into software routers, hardware firewalls (pfSense, OpnSense), home NAS servers, or local homelabs.
Small, frequently extended tier
Another advertised free tier provides one location, 1 GB of RAM and four player slots. You must extend the server every three hours. This can work for a short evening session, but it is a poor fit for a persistent world because forgetting an extension takes the server offline and the low memory leaves little headroom for a growing save.
Across free hosted tiers, the practical pattern is less RAM, fewer slots, advertisements or forced restarts/extensions. Ask three questions before uploading a world: how long does the instance stay online without intervention, what happens when the free allocation is exhausted, and can you download a complete backup?

Trials are useful tests, not permanent free hosting
GHosting: 48 hours
GHosting advertises a 48-hour free trial with no payment card, subscription or automatic renewal. Use the window to test world upload, invite flow, latency and whether the host’s controls support your preferred backups. The trial expires; it is not a continuing free plan.
Nodecraft: 24 hours
Nodecraft advertises a 24-hour trial without requiring a card. A one-day test is enough to verify that every player can connect and that the server behaves during a normal session, but it does not demonstrate long-term uptime or support response. Its Lite plan hibernates when unused, and the provider’s own description says that mode is not recommended for Core Keeper.

When paying is the practical choice
If the world should remain available when the usual host is away, a paid instance removes the main self-hosting failure point: someone’s home computer being off, asleep or rebooting. One listed provider, Game Host Bros, advertises plans from $11.99 per month with unlimited player slots and says an existing server can be transferred at no charge. That is an advertised starting price, not a universal market rate; verify the current monthly total, renewal price, backup policy and resource allocation.
Unlimited slots are useful only when the plan also supplies enough CPU, memory and network capacity. For a small private group, a predictable always-on schedule and reliable backups matter more than a large theoretical slot count.
Choose the right route for your group
Choose self-hosting when
- You already have a computer that can remain on during play.
- Your group is small and can tolerate downtime when the host shuts down.
- You want full control of files, updates and backups without ads or provider credits.
- You are comfortable troubleshooting firewall or router connectivity.
Choose a free hosted tier when
- No one can leave a home machine online.
- You accept advertising, manual extensions, promotional terms or limited memory.
- You are experimenting with a new world and can tolerate interruption.
Choose a trial when
- You need to check whether everyone can connect before spending money.
- You want to test save uploads, admin controls, latency and backups.
- You understand that 24 or 48 hours is an evaluation period, not an ongoing entitlement.
Choose paid hosting when
- The world must be reachable around the clock.
- Several players join at different times and forced extensions are unacceptable.
- You need a support channel, scheduled backups or a straightforward migration path.
Common problems and fixes
The server appears offline
Confirm that the dedicated-server process is still running and that the host computer has not slept, rebooted or lost its network connection. A free hosted instance may also have reached its time limit or require a manual extension.
Friends cannot join a self-hosted world
First retry with the server freshly started and the firewall permission enabled. If the Game ID flow still fails for remote players, investigate UDP 27015–27016 forwarding as a second step; networking guidance is not uniform, so do not assume forwarding is required in every installation.
The world is laggy or stops under load
Check the actual RAM and CPU allocation rather than the provider’s maximum headline figure. A 1 GB free tier, a credit-limited allocation or a busy ad-supported node may have insufficient headroom as the world and player count grow. Reduce simultaneous players, move to a larger allocation or migrate to a paid plan after taking a verified backup.
A trial or free tier expires
Download the world before the deadline, record the server settings and confirm whether the destination host accepts Core Keeper saves. Do not assume a trial converts automatically or that an expired free instance remains recoverable.
