The Fosi Audio S3 is best understood as a network streamer, DAC, and preamp in one compact unit—not as an amplifier that can drive passive speakers. Its appeal is the combination of balanced XLR and RCA outputs, HDMI eARC, a dedicated subwoofer output, and broad streaming options. The main qualification is software: an independent reviewer found the app less polished than the hardware in a review published in May 2026.
What the Fosi Audio S3 does
Fosi describes the S3 as a digital transport, DAC, and preamp. It receives music over a network or from connected sources, converts digital audio to analog, and sends a volume-controlled signal to a power amplifier or compatible active speakers. It is not a power amplifier for passive speakers, so a passive-speaker system still needs a separate power amp.
That role makes the S3 most relevant when you want to add network streaming and source switching to an existing system, or build a compact source-and-preamp hub around a power amp or active speakers. If your system already has the inputs, streaming functions, and preamp controls you need, some of the S3’s features may overlap with equipment you own.

Connectivity is a central part of the S3’s proposition. Fosi’s product listing and EU specifications identify the following connections and functions:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Analog outputs: balanced XLR and RCA, for connection to a power amplifier or compatible active speakers.
- Digital output: optical output, useful when another component will handle digital-to-analog conversion.
- Subwoofer output: a dedicated output for a subwoofer in a suitable setup.
- Inputs: RCA line, optical, HDMI eARC, Bluetooth, and network streaming.
- Other: a 12V trigger connection.
HDMI eARC gives the S3 a way to receive audio from a compatible TV. XLR may be useful if the rest of your system has balanced inputs; it is not, by itself, evidence that a system will sound better than one connected over RCA. Choose the output and input your equipment supports, and check the TV’s audio-output settings if eARC does not connect as expected.
For a passive-speaker setup, the signal chain is source or network → S3 → power amplifier → speakers. For compatible active speakers, the S3 can feed the speakers directly. Add a subwoofer only if your system needs one and the subwoofer accepts the S3’s output.

Streaming services and format limits
The EU product listing names Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.3, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Google Cast, DLNA, Roon Ready, and Qobuz Connect. These names describe supported routes, not a promise that every service or protocol is available in every region, app, or firmware version. In particular, the EU listing names Qobuz Connect and Roon Ready, while Pragmatic Audio’s May 2026 review treated Qobuz Connect as planned and Roon as prospective at that time. Confirm current app behavior, firmware, and certification status before buying on the assumption that either is operational for your setup.
Maximum PCM formats depend on the input or streaming route. Fosi’s EU listing gives the following figures; they are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements:

| Route | Maximum PCM listed by Fosi’s EU page |
|---|---|
| Optical input | 24-bit/192 kHz |
| Bluetooth | 24-bit/48 kHz |
| Google Cast | 24-bit/96 kHz |
| AirPlay 2 | 16-bit/48 kHz |
| HDMI | 24-bit/192 kHz |
| Wi-Fi | 32-bit/384 kHz on the EU page |
| LAN | 32-bit/768 kHz |
| Roon Ready | 32-bit/384 kHz |
There is a source conflict for Wi-Fi: Fosi’s brochure lists 24-bit/192 kHz, while its EU page lists 32-bit/384 kHz. Do not treat either as a universal Wi-Fi limit without checking the current manual or getting clarification from Fosi. For other routes, use the figure for the actual protocol or input you plan to use; the DAC’s highest listed figure does not automatically apply to AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, or every service.

In a May 2026 review, Pragmatic Audio said it used a Fosi-supplied sample for about two months between a desktop setup and a two-channel living-room system, using both XLR and RCA and comparing the S3 regularly with the WiiM Ultra. The reviewer’s main reservation was the Fosi app: it reported that room correction and parametric EQ were missing during that review period and judged the app less mature than the hardware.
Best Value

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The review also noted that Fosi’s roadmap listed Qobuz Connect and 10-band EQ as near-term additions, alongside a broader navigation redesign. A roadmap is not confirmation that a feature shipped. The reviewer considered the WiiM app more polished at the time, while seeing the S3 as a possible fit for buyers who valued its connections and used services such as TIDAL Connect, Google Cast, or AirPlay 2. Those are that reviewer’s May 2026 observations, not a current comparison of every alternative or a guarantee of today’s app state.
Before relying on a particular control or service, check the current app version and firmware release information for the feature you need. This matters especially if room correction, parametric EQ, a specific streaming integration, or a particular navigation workflow is essential to your purchase.
Price references and value
The available prices are tied to different sources and regions, rather than establishing a universal current price: Fosi’s undated brochure gives a $259 MSRP; Fosi’s Japan listing showed ¥39,990, with no listing date stated; and Pragmatic Audio reported $259.99 as typical retail in its May 2026 review. Check a seller’s current price, stock, shipping, warranty, and return terms for your region before deciding whether the S3 is good value.
Value depends on whether the connections solve a real system need. The strongest case is for someone who wants a streamer and preamp with XLR and RCA outputs, TV audio through HDMI eARC, and a subwoofer connection in one unit. A buyer who mainly wants extensive app-based tuning should confirm that the current software supplies the needed controls before choosing it.
Who should consider the Fosi Audio S3?
- Consider it if you need a network streamer and DAC/preamp with the specific outputs or inputs your system lacks, particularly balanced XLR, HDMI eARC, or a dedicated subwoofer output.
- Plan for another component if you use passive speakers: the S3 needs a separate power amplifier. Compatible active speakers are another way to use its preamp output.
- Check first if your decision depends on room correction, parametric EQ, Qobuz Connect, Roon Ready, or a particular streaming route; support and implementation can depend on the current app, firmware, region, and certification status.
- Look elsewhere or keep your existing equipment if the S3 duplicates your system’s streaming and preamp functions, or if a more mature app is your priority and the current software still does not meet your needs.
