Forza Horizon 6 requires a 64-bit Windows 10 22H2 (version 19045) or newer PC, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, an SSD with 167 GB free, and a graphics card at least as powerful as a GeForce GTX 1650, Radeon RX 6500 XT, or Intel Arc A380. Steam’s 2026 listing also gives a higher recommended tier: an Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X paired with a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, Radeon RX 6700 XT, or Intel Arc A580. Neither tier is tied to a published resolution, graphics preset, or guaranteed frame rate, so your own benchmark results matter more than a label such as “minimum” or “recommended.”

Minimum PC requirements

The minimum specification is the published floor for starting the PC version. A component at this level does not promise a particular frame rate or image-quality preset. Steam lists all of the following requirements for Forza Horizon 6:

Component or condition Minimum requirement
Operating system Windows 10 22H2 (version 19045) or higher
Processor Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Memory 16 GB RAM
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT, or Intel Arc A380
Graphics API DirectX 12
Storage 167 GB available space on an SSD
Network Broadband internet connection
System architecture 64-bit processor and 64-bit operating system

These figures come from Steam’s 2026 listing. “167 GB available” means that much free capacity must be present when installing; it is not a claim about the game’s eventual download size, patch growth, or free space needed by Windows. Leave additional headroom for updates and normal operating-system use.

How to check your own PC

  • Press Windows, type System Information, and check the Windows edition, version, system type, processor and installed physical memory.
  • Open dxdiag from the Start menu to confirm DirectX and inspect the Display tab for the GPU name and driver.
  • In File Explorer, open the drive where you plan to install the game and verify at least 167 GB is free. Confirm that the drive is an SSD rather than a hard-disk drive.
  • Check that your Windows installation is 64-bit. A 32-bit operating system cannot satisfy the published requirement even if the processor itself supports 64-bit operation.

Comparing only model names can be misleading. A laptop GPU can carry a desktop-style name while using different power limits, and a processor can run below its advertised speed because of thermal or power settings. Treat the listed models as reference points, then use the in-game benchmark to see how your complete system behaves.

Recommended PC requirements

The recommended tier is the higher configuration published by Steam, not a promise of 4K, a named preset, or 60 frames per second. It changes the processor and graphics-card classes while retaining every shared platform requirement.

Component or condition Recommended requirement
Operating system Windows 10 22H2 (version 19045) or higher
Processor Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
Memory 16 GB RAM
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, or Intel Arc A580
Graphics API DirectX 12
Storage 167 GB available space on an SSD
Network Broadband internet connection
System architecture 64-bit processor and 64-bit operating system

The useful way to interpret the two tiers is as a starting decision framework:

  • At or near minimum: begin conservatively, use the benchmark, and expect to make compromises in resolution, ray tracing and image reconstruction.
  • Near recommended: you have more graphics and CPU headroom, but the result still depends on resolution, refresh rate, background tasks and the options you enable.
  • Above recommended: you may have room for higher resolution or ray-traced effects, yet the game’s official material still does not attach a universal FPS target to any hardware tier.

Steam does not publish resolution-specific or preset-specific frame-rate estimates in the readable requirements table. Do not convert the word “recommended” into an assurance of 60 FPS or any other number.

What the PC version supports

Playground Games says the PC release supports uncapped frame rates, 4K HDR visuals, ultrawide monitor resolutions, and ray-traced reflections and ray-traced global illumination on compatible GPUs. These are capabilities, not independent test results. Whether a particular system can use them smoothly depends on its CPU, GPU, memory, display resolution, drivers and selected settings.

Ray tracing

Ray-traced reflections and global illumination are optional workloads that can substantially alter GPU demand. If enabling them causes uneven frame pacing or a large benchmark drop, disable one or both before reducing every other quality setting. A compatible GPU is required; the feature is not available simply because a PC runs DirectX 12.

Upscaling and anti-aliasing options

The launch feature list includes NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50 Series cards, DLSS Frame Generation for RTX 40 Series and newer, DLSS Super Resolution for GeForce RTX cards, DLAA and NVIDIA Reflex. It also lists AMD FSR 4 or FSR 3 depending on the GPU, and Intel XeSS 2.1.

Upscaling renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output, while frame generation creates additional displayed frames between rendered frames. They can change the balance between image quality, latency and smoothness, so compare them with the game’s benchmark and your own driving feel. Vendor and game support claims do not represent a measured FPS increase for every card.

HDR, ultrawide and an uncapped frame rate

An uncapped frame-rate mode removes an artificial ceiling; it does not guarantee that the GPU or CPU can sustain a high rate. HDR requires a compatible display and correct Windows and monitor calibration. Ultrawide support lets the game use wider aspect ratios, but the extra pixels increase rendering work compared with a conventional display of similar height.

A repeatable settings workflow

Forza Horizon 6 includes live previews for many graphics options, a real-time display of video-memory and system-memory usage, and a built-in benchmark. Use those tools to measure your computer rather than adopting an unverified “best settings” preset.

  1. Start from a stable baseline. Close unnecessary background applications, select the resolution and refresh rate you actually use, and record the initial benchmark result. Keep notes of each change.
  2. Watch memory indicators. The in-game display shows video and system memory use. If usage approaches the available capacity, reduce the most demanding visual options or output resolution before troubleshooting unrelated components.
  3. Change only a few variables. Adjust resolution or render scale first, then ray tracing, then an upscaler or frame-generation mode. Altering many controls at once makes it impossible to identify which change helped.
  4. Use live previews. Inspect the preview for image quality, reflections, distant detail and aliasing before applying a setting. A preview can reveal an objectionable visual trade-off even when the benchmark number improves.
  5. Run the benchmark after each meaningful change. Compare the result with the same scene and conditions. The benchmark is a repeatable way to assess your PC; it is not a promise that every race, weather condition or online session will perform identically.
  6. Validate in real driving. Test a route that normally causes stutter, such as dense scenery or traffic, and check frame pacing as well as the average rate. If the benchmark is good but play feels uneven, background activity, shader compilation, thermal limits or a driver issue may be responsible.

How to choose settings by the problem you see

Low average frame rate

Reduce output resolution or internal render resolution first, then test an appropriate upscaler. If ray-traced reflections or global illumination are enabled, turn them off temporarily and rerun the benchmark. An uncapped mode can expose the true limit of your hardware, but it can also make power, heat and noise more noticeable.

Stutter or inconsistent frame pacing

Check video- and system-memory indicators, close background tasks, and repeat the benchmark after changing one option. Frame generation can make the displayed rate look higher while the underlying rendered-frame rate remains limited; evaluate responsiveness and pacing rather than the overlay number alone.

Image looks soft or unstable

Raise the internal resolution or use a higher-quality reconstruction mode if available. Compare DLSS Super Resolution, FSR and XeSS options supported by your GPU, and consider DLAA where the performance cost is acceptable. Keep the monitor’s native resolution selected when possible so scaling is not adding a second source of softness.

Memory warning or texture-related hitching

Reduce the settings that increase video-memory use, lower output or render resolution, and leave free system memory for Windows and background services. The on-screen memory readout is more useful than assuming that 16 GB of RAM is automatically sufficient for every combination of resolution and effects.

Compatibility caveats and current troubleshooting

In a May 22, 2026 update, Playground Games said it was aware of PC frame-rate issues on AMD graphics cards and was working on fixes. That post advised players to update their graphics drivers. Because later updates may change the status, check the current official patch and support notes before concluding that a persistent AMD problem is permanent.

Supported operating systems and GPU architectures

  • Windows 10 and Windows 11 are supported when the system otherwise meets the requirements.
  • Steam Deck is supported according to the May 22, 2026 developer update.
  • Linux is not supported.
  • NVIDIA Turing is the minimum supported NVIDIA architecture.
  • AMD Polaris, AMD Vega and older AMD architectures will not work, even if a particular card appears close to a listed model in raw specifications.

The same developer update noted that some reported crashes occurred on hardware below the minimum specification or on unsupported operating systems. Verify compatibility before treating a crash as a game defect.

Driver and software checks

  1. Install the current graphics driver for your GPU from its manufacturer, then restart Windows.
  2. Confirm that Windows is fully updated and remains on a supported 64-bit installation.
  3. Remove temporary overclocks while diagnosing crashes, black screens or severe stutter; return the system to a known-stable configuration.
  4. Close recording, browser, overlay and monitoring utilities one at a time to identify conflicts or excessive background load.
  5. Run the game’s benchmark again after each change and record the result, memory use and visible symptoms.

If the game cannot start, check the architecture rules before changing graphics settings: unsupported Linux installations, 32-bit Windows, GPUs older than the supported NVIDIA Turing generation, and AMD Polaris or Vega-era cards are not valid targets for troubleshooting through quality presets alone.

Storage, controllers and wheels

Because Steam explicitly requires an SSD and 167 GB of available space, an SSD is a compatibility requirement rather than an optional performance accessory. Before buying or installing one, check your PC’s physical form factor, interface, operating-system support and free capacity. The published material does not establish that replacing an SSD increases frame rate.

Playground Games says every steering wheel compatible with Forza Horizon 5 is supported in Forza Horizon 6, and controller support is retained from the previous game. These devices are optional gameplay accessories: you do not need a wheel or controller to satisfy the PC’s CPU, GPU, memory or storage requirements.

What the requirements can—and cannot—tell you

The requirement tables answer whether your PC fits the developer’s published baseline or higher reference configuration. They do not identify a universal “best” preset, a guaranteed frame rate, or the exact setting that will solve a stutter on your machine. Resolution, ray tracing, upscaling, frame generation, display format, drivers, background tasks and thermal behavior all change the result.

Use the minimum and recommended lists to screen for compatibility, then use the live previews, memory meters and benchmark to make measured adjustments. Playground Games summarizes the limitation directly: “Performance will vary based on your setup, background tasks, graphics settings, and the use of ray tracing or upscaling technologies.” The statement appears in its article Experience Japan with Ray Tracing in Forza Horizon 6 on PC, published March 25, 2026.

The Bottom Line

Forza Horizon 6’s published baseline is Windows 10 22H2 or newer, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, an SSD with 167 GB free, and a GTX 1650, RX 6500 XT or Arc A380-class GPU. The recommended list raises the CPU to an i5-12400F or Ryzen 5 5600X and the GPU to an RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT or Arc A580. Since no official FPS target accompanies either tier, tune resolution, ray tracing and reconstruction options with the game’s memory display, live previews and benchmark, while keeping driver and architecture compatibility in mind.
