Forza Horizon 6 launches on PS5 on 26 January 2027. Premium Edition owners receive early access from 21 January 2027. The current PlayStation Store page does not publish a PS5 download or installed-size figure, so there is no reliable GB requirement to quote yet. You can pre-order digitally for auto-download, or buy the planned disc release from supporting retailers. A PlayStation account and persistent internet connection are required; PlayStation Plus is needed only for online console multiplayer.
Release timing and PS5 availability
Playground Games announced the PS5 version on 8 October 2026. Standard and Deluxe Editions launch on 26 January 2027. Premium Edition owners can begin playing five days earlier, on 21 January 2027. The US PlayStation Store lists the Premium release time as 21 January 2027 at 4:00 PM UTC.
The announcement confirms both digital sales through the PlayStation Store and a physical PS5 disc at supporting retailers. It does not identify every retailer, regional stock level, or the exact package configuration that each retailer will carry.

The current PS5 Store listing and the October 2026 PlayStation announcement leave the download-size and installed-size fields blank. Consequently, no official PS5 number of gigabytes, minimum free-space figure, or installation buffer can be stated responsibly.

When the preload information appears, check the game’s Store page or the download details shown on your console. Keep more free space than the displayed download amount because the PS5 may need working room while it downloads, verifies, and installs data. That is practical preparation, not a published Forza Horizon 6 requirement.
Why the PC figure is not a PS5 requirement
Valve’s Steam Support information lists 167 GB available space for the PC version in 2026. That figure applies to the Steam build and its PC installation process. It must not be converted into a PS5 requirement: console packaging, compression, updates, and file allocation can differ substantially between platforms.
How to check your available PS5 space
- Open Settings from the PS5 home screen.
- Choose Storage, then Console Storage.
- Review the free-space figure before starting a preload or inserting the disc.
- Use Games and Apps to remove games or add-ons you can redownload later, or move eligible content to compatible expanded storage.
Do not reserve exactly the eventual download number. Wait for the Store to show the PS5 figure, then leave a cushion for the installation process and future updates.

PS5 editions and what each includes
The US PlayStation Store lists three editions. The prices below are the listed US prices and may differ by country, taxes, currency, or later price changes.

The listing describes the Standard edition as the complete base game. Deluxe and Premium add downloadable content rather than a different PS5 installation method. Buying digitally gives the Store account that purchased the game a license; buying a disc gives you physical media and still requires the disc to be present when you play.
How to pre-order and preload the digital version
Pre-ordering is the route to use if you want the PS5 to download the game before release. The exact preload start time is controlled by the Store and is not specified in the current listing.
- On PS5, open PlayStation Store and search for Forza Horizon 6.
- Select Standard, Deluxe, or Premium and confirm that the platform is PS5.
- Complete the purchase with the PlayStation account that you intend to use for the game.
- Open Game Library, select Your Collection, choose Forza Horizon 6, and select Download when the option becomes available.
- Choose the desired storage location if your console offers more than one eligible drive.
Requirements for automatic download
The PlayStation Store states that auto-download requires both Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In to be enabled on the PS5. On a typical system, review Settings > Users and Accounts > Login Settings for automatic sign-in, then review Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates and enable automatic downloads. Menu wording can vary with system language and software revisions.
The console must be connected to the internet and have enough free space. Rest Mode can allow downloads to continue when the console is not being actively used, provided your power-saving network settings permit internet connectivity in Rest Mode.
Installing the digital game after release
If you did not preload, the installation process is straightforward once the edition is available for your account.
- Open Game Library > Your Collection and highlight Forza Horizon 6.
- Select Download. The PS5 will show the current download amount and estimated time.
- Keep the console online while the download and installation complete.
- Start the game from the home screen. Allow any additional update to finish before joining online sessions.
The Store listing requires a PlayStation account and a persistent internet connection. Those requirements apply even if the initial game files were downloaded in advance.
Installing the physical PS5 disc
Playground Games confirms a PS5 disc release at supporting retailers. Retail availability, regional packaging, and final stock are retailer-specific.
- Insert the Forza Horizon 6 disc into the PS5 disc drive.
- Wait for the console to copy the game data and display the installation progress.
- Leave the console connected to the internet so it can obtain available updates and complete the account checks required by the Store listing.
- Keep the disc inserted whenever you launch the installed game; the disc acts as the physical license.
The announcement confirms the disc format but does not publish its byte size. Use the space shown by your own PS5 during installation rather than relying on the PC figure.

In practical terms, you can install a digital copy or copy the disc data without buying PlayStation Plus. You will need an active subscription when you use the PS5’s online multiplayer features. The Store listing does not promise an offline mode, so do not plan on uninterrupted offline play.
Cross-play and cross-save
Playground Games says the PS5 version supports cross-platform play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions. Cross-play lets supported players use the same multiplayer ecosystem across those platforms, while cross-save is intended to carry compatible progression between versions.
The announcement does not detail every account-linking step, transfer restriction, or entitlement rule. Use the account-linking instructions presented in the game and Store at launch, and make sure you sign in with the account associated with your existing progress before accepting a new save.
Storage planning before launch
What to do now
- Check Console Storage and remove or move games you no longer use.
- Keep the PS5 connected to the internet and leave automatic sign-in enabled if you want unattended preloading.
- Do not buy an SSD solely because a PC listing says 167 GB; that number is not a PS5 specification.
- If your internal storage is nearly full, create substantially more room than the eventual download display so verification and updates do not fail.
What to check when preload opens
- The PS5 Store page’s download amount for your selected edition.
- The free-space warning shown when you select Download.
- Whether the game has a separate day-one update listed in the download queue.
- Whether all purchased add-ons appear under the game’s options after installation.
Common installation problems and fixes
The game does not start downloading
Confirm that the purchase was made on the signed-in account, that the release or preload window has opened, and that automatic login and auto sign-in are enabled. Open the game’s page in Game Library and select Download manually. If the queue is paused, resume it and check the PS5’s network test.
The PS5 reports insufficient space
Open Settings > Storage > Console Storage > Games and Apps, remove or move large titles, and retry. The required number shown by the console is the authoritative figure for that build; the 167 GB Steam value cannot resolve a PS5 space error.
The disc installs but the game will not launch
Leave the disc inserted, verify that the correct PS5 edition is installed, and connect to the internet for required updates or account checks. If the console cannot read the disc, clean it with a soft cloth and test another disc to distinguish a media problem from a drive problem.
Online features are unavailable
Check the internet connection, sign in to the PlayStation account used for the purchase, and verify that PlayStation Plus is active for online console multiplayer. A subscription is separate from the game license.

Which edition makes sense?
Choose Standard if you only want the base game
Standard is the lowest-priced listed edition and includes the full game at the 26 January launch. It is the uncomplicated choice when early access and bundled add-ons are not priorities.
Choose Deluxe for the mid-tier add-ons
Deluxe keeps the launch-day schedule but adds the Welcome Pack and Car Pass. It suits players who want those extras without paying for Premium’s expansions, VIP Membership, and additional car packs.
Choose Premium for five-day early access and the full bundle
Premium is the only edition with the 21 January early-access window. It also includes VIP Membership, both listed expansions, the Time Attack Car Pack, the Italian Passion Car Pack, and Car Pass. Compare the US Store price with your regional price before ordering.
