Forza Horizon 6 does not import your previous Horizon fame or an earlier game’s collectible inventory into its Japan campaign. You start as a tourist, build a new reputation through seven Festival Wristbands, and record discoveries in FH6’s Collection Journal.
What does carry over depends on the boundary you mean: campaign progress can follow you between supported devices through cross-save, and one documented update credited excess FH6 Horizon Play XP toward newly added ranks. Neither rule means that progress from another Forza Horizon release is imported.
The three kinds of progression players call “carryover”
Questions about FH6 progression usually mix together three separate systems. Separating them prevents the most common misunderstanding.

Cross-save is therefore a continuity feature for the same FH6 account, not a bridge that imports your FH5 career. The XP example is also specific to Horizon Play levels; it is not a promise that every collectible or mode uses the same rule.

How the FH6 campaign starts
You arrive as a tourist
Playground Games describes the opening state plainly: none of your past Horizon fame is carried with you. FH6 asks you to establish yourself in Japan rather than treating an earlier game’s reputation as an unlocked campaign.
That means a returning player should expect to earn the campaign’s milestones again. A high level, completed events or an established status in another Horizon title does not skip FH6’s introductory progression.
Earn seven Festival Wristbands
Your campaign advancement is organized around Wristband Events. Completing the required progression earns the next Wristband; earning all seven makes you a Horizon Legend and opens Legend Island.

It is not described as an achievement imported from an earlier release, so plan to complete these events in the new game even if you have already finished another Horizon campaign.
The Collection Journal is FH6’s progression record
Two paths can be progressed at your pace
The Collection Journal tracks the adventure across two campaign paths: Horizon Festival and Discover Japan. The official campaign overview says you can progress each at your leisure, so the Journal is both a checklist and a way to choose which part of the campaign to pursue next.

Its contents are built from activity in FH6 itself. Discoveries, photographs, activities and challenges can add entries, and Journal rewards can include cars, credits and cosmetic items tied to specified activities or challenges.
Stamps unlock further collection routes
Journal Stamps are more than a visual record. Collecting them unlocks new player houses, Barn Find rumors and The Estate. This creates a practical loop: explore and complete Journal-related tasks, collect Stamps, then use the resulting unlocks to open more of the collection system.

Because these Stamps belong to the FH6 Journal, they should be treated as a fresh Japan progression track. The published campaign material does not describe an imported Stamp total from another game.
Journal photos are part of the record
Photos taken for the Journal are saved there. If you take a later photo for the same Journal purpose, it can replace the earlier one. The documented behavior establishes an in-game record of your discoveries; it does not state that Journal photos transfer between different Forza Horizon titles.
How collectible discoveries work
Treasure Cars use photo clues
Treasure Cars are found by exploring and interpreting a provided photograph. The clue points you toward a location or landmark, and locating the vehicle adds that discovery to your FH6 collection path.

Examples named in the official car-culture material include the 1991 Nissan Figaro, 1985 Nissan Safari Turbo and 1969 Dodge Charger R/T. These examples illustrate the clue-driven design; they are not a published total for every Treasure Car in the game.

Barn Find rumors follow Journal Stamps
Barn Find clues arrive as you collect Collection Journal Stamps. In practice, this means Barn Finds are connected to your Journal activity rather than being a preloaded inventory from an earlier Horizon release. Explore, complete the relevant Journal work, collect Stamps and then follow the newly revealed rumor.
Official material reviewed for this subject does not provide a complete count of Treasure Cars, Barn Finds or all Journal collectibles. Avoid treating any number found in an unofficial checklist as an official universal total.
What cross-save actually carries
Campaign continuity across supported devices
Playground Games says campaign progress follows the player across supported platforms. The October 8, 2026 PlayStation announcement confirms cross-save with Xbox and Steam while announcing the PS5 release plan. In practical terms, the same FH6 progression can remain available when you move between supported devices linked to that cross-save system.
Cross-save does not change the campaign’s starting state. If the game is new to your account, you still begin as a tourist; cross-save simply preserves the FH6 progress you have already made when you use another supported platform.

Do not confuse cross-save with game-to-game transfer
A save that follows you from one device to another is still an FH6 save. It does not import fame, Wristbands, Journal Stamps, Treasure Cars, Barn Find progress or other career records from an earlier Forza Horizon title unless Playground Games explicitly documents such a feature. The campaign statement that “None of that past fame is carried with you” is the clearest published rule for the initial FH6 experience.
The documented update-era exception: Horizon Play XP
The October 2026 Horizon Meets update added 200 Horizon Play levels after the original level 100. Playground Games says that any excess Horizon Play XP already earned after reaching level 100 counted toward those newly added ranks.
This is a narrowly defined within-FH6 rule. It tells you what happened to surplus XP when the level ceiling changed; it does not establish transfer for cars, Journal Stamps, photos, Barn Find rumors, Treasure Cars, Festival Playlist history or another game’s level.
If you had reached level 100 before the update, the relevant question is whether you had excess Horizon Play XP under the game’s existing system. That surplus was the amount credited toward the added ranks. Players who had not reached the old cap did not receive a blanket conversion of unrelated collectibles into levels.

The July 2026 Italian Exotics update describes Series History Rewards as being based on lifetime Festival Playlist Points. It gives 500 lifetime points as the stated threshold for the 1972 Mazda Cosmo 110S Series II reward.

“Lifetime” here refers to the FH6 Playlist measure described by that update. It should not be read as a cross-title balance. Points earned in another Horizon game are not identified as contributing to this FH6 threshold.

The official car-culture overview cites over 550 cars at launch. That figure describes the launch car roster, not the number of Treasure Cars, Barn Finds, Journal entries or rewards you must collect. It is also time-bound: later updates can change the available roster.
Use the launch-roster figure to understand the scale of FH6’s car lineup, not to estimate how many collectible objectives the Collection Journal contains.
What is not established as transferable
No complete item-by-item carryover matrix has been published in the official material covered here. The safe interpretation is therefore specific rather than speculative:
- Previous-game fame does not carry into the FH6 campaign.
- No official source cited here documents an imported inventory of earlier-game collectibles.
- There is no stated universal rule that Treasure Cars, Barn Finds, Journal Stamps, Journal photos, cars, credits or cosmetics from another title appear automatically in FH6.
- The Horizon Play XP credit applies to surplus XP after the old FH6 level 100 cap and should not be generalized to every progression track.
- Cross-save preserves FH6 progress between supported devices; it does not merge separate game releases into one career.
A practical way to track your own progression
- Confirm the game and account boundary. Decide whether you are checking progress on another device or asking about an older Horizon release. Only the first question is answered by cross-save.
- Open the Collection Journal. Use it as the authoritative FH6 record for Horizon Festival and Discover Japan progress, Journal photos, discoveries and related activities.
- Work toward the seven Wristbands. Complete Wristband Events to move the campaign forward; all seven make you a Horizon Legend and unlock Legend Island.
- Collect Journal Stamps deliberately. Stamps unlock houses, Barn Find rumors and The Estate, so they are an important gate for exploration rewards.
- Follow photo clues while exploring. Treasure Cars require interpreting the supplied photograph and reaching the matching location.
- Check update-specific systems separately. If you are reviewing levels after the Horizon Meets update, account for surplus Horizon Play XP credited beyond level 100 rather than assuming other collectibles were converted.
- Verify cross-save availability for your platforms. The announced PS5 plan confirms Xbox-and-Steam cross-save; platform support and account requirements can change, so check the current game information when you switch devices.
PS5 timing and what it means for progression
Playground Games announced on October 8, 2026 that the PS5 Standard and Deluxe editions are scheduled for January 26, 2027, with Premium early access scheduled to begin January 21, 2027. The announcement also says a disc edition is planned through supporting retailers and confirms cross-save with Xbox and Steam.
These are announced dates and plans, not proof that a physical copy is already available or that every retailer has stock. They also do not alter the campaign rule: a PS5 player joining FH6 starts a new Japan campaign unless an existing FH6 save is available through the supported cross-save arrangement.
Bottom line for returning players
Start FH6 expecting a new campaign, a new Collection Journal and a new set of Wristbands. Your earlier Horizon fame and any presumed earlier-game collectible inventory do not come across. Your FH6 campaign can follow you between supported devices, and surplus Horizon Play XP had a documented path into the 200 ranks added in October 2026. Treat those as separate cases, not evidence of universal progression transfer.
