Yes—you can play Fortnite on an iPad. The installation route depends on where you live: Epic lists the App Store for iPad users worldwide except in Australia, and lists the Epic Games Store mobile app and AltStore PAL for iPad users in the European Union. Cloud streaming is another option in regions supported by the streaming service.
Choose an iPad route available in your region
| Route | Where Epic lists it for iPad | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| App Store | Worldwide except Australia, according to Epic’s mobile installation help | Download the game to the iPad and run it locally. |
| Epic Games Store mobile app | European Union | Install Epic’s mobile storefront, then download Fortnite. |
| AltStore PAL | European Union | Install Fortnite through this alternative marketplace. |
| Cloud streaming | Regions supported by the provider | Play through Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, or Amazon Luna without downloading the game locally. |
These country details are specific to iPad. Epic’s iPad support page and storefront describe iPad availability in the EU for its mobile store; availability Epic describes for Japan or Brazil applies to iPhone, not iPad. Check the current instructions before choosing a route: Epic’s iPadOS installation guidance and Epic Games Store mobile availability.
Install Fortnite from the App Store
- Open the App Store on your iPad and search for Fortnite.
- Check the listing’s compatibility information before downloading. The listing must be available in your region, and your iPad must meet its current requirements.
- Tap the download button and follow the on-screen prompts. Once installed, open Fortnite and sign in as requested.
Epic’s general mobile installation help lists the App Store as an iOS and iPadOS route except in Australia: How to install Fortnite on iOS and iPadOS.

Epic Games Store mobile app
For iPad users in the European Union, Epic lists its mobile storefront as a native installation route. Follow Epic’s current iPadOS instructions to install the store, then use it to download Fortnite. Epic says its store’s games, including Fortnite, are free to download and play, with optional in-app purchases. Availability and installation steps can change, so use Epic’s iPadOS support instructions.

Play Fortnite by cloud streaming
Epic lists Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna for cloud play. Streaming avoids a local Fortnite download, but the service must support your region and device. Start from Epic’s mobile guide, then check the chosen provider’s current access conditions and account requirements.

- Check whether one of the listed services currently offers Fortnite in your region.
- Open the provider’s supported Fortnite access route in your iPad’s browser or app, following that provider’s current instructions.
- Sign in or complete any access steps the provider requires, then launch Fortnite.
- Use a stable internet connection. Epic recommends high speed and low latency for the best streaming experience.
Cloud play relies on your connection rather than only the iPad’s hardware. Epic does not state a universal latency threshold in its mobile guide, so connection quality can vary by location and network.

Those minimum families do not guarantee identical performance on every supported device. An App Store listing being visible also does not by itself prove that an older iPad can run the current game. For native installation, check both the required iPadOS version and the supported model family.

No controller is required to start playing. Epic’s mobile guide addresses controller play and supported controllers, but compatibility can depend on the specific controller and software. Consult Epic’s mobile guide and the accessory maker’s current specifications before buying or pairing one.
