Fortnite island codes open published Creative islands. Redeem or product codes add a purchased game, add-on, or other entitlement to the Epic account you sign into. They are entered in different places and produce different results. An island code belongs in Fortnite’s Play/Search flow; a product code belongs in the Epic Games Launcher or Epic Games Store redemption flow. Creator codes and Fortnite gift cards are related, but neither is an island-code substitute.
The difference in one table
The fastest way to avoid an error is to identify what the code is supposed to do before entering it. Is it opening a player-made map, applying creator support, unlocking something you bought, or adding account funds?
| Code type | What it identifies or unlocks | Where you use it | What should happen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Island or map code | A published Fortnite Creative island | Fortnite’s Play/Search or island-code interface | The island page opens or the island launches |
| Product or redeem code | A purchased product or account entitlement | Epic Games Launcher or Epic Games Store redemption page | The product is added to the signed-in Epic account and becomes available in the launcher library |
| Support-A-Creator code | A creator identifier used to support a creator | Fortnite Item Shop | The creator is selected for shop-support attribution |
| Developer or creator identity | The developer name associated with published islands | Creator and developer systems | It helps identify a creator’s published islands |
| Fortnite gift card | Stored value for purchases through Epic’s payment system | Epic’s gift-card redemption flow | Funds are added to the Epic account balance |
These categories can look similar because each uses a string of characters, but the destination controls the outcome. Entering a product code in Fortnite Search will not add the product to your account, and entering an island code on an Epic Store redemption page will not open a map.

An island code is a shareable access key for a published Fortnite Creative island. A creator publishes an island, and players use its code to find that specific experience. The code points to the island; it does not grant ownership of a paid product, add currency, or attach a purchase to an Epic account.

- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms

Epic’s Creative documentation describes an island code as a code that can be shared with other players so they can access the published island. The island remains the creator’s published experience. Your result is access to play or view it, subject to the island’s availability and Fortnite’s current menu behavior.
Where to enter an island code
Use Fortnite itself, not the Epic Games Store product-redemption screen:
- Launch Fortnite and sign in to the account you intend to play with.
- Select Play in the upper-left area of the Fortnite interface.
- Scroll to the Search bar.
- Enter the island name or island code. Fortnite’s Search field can also accept a creator code or a custom key, so confirm that the result is the island you meant to open.
- Open the result. You can favorite it for easier access later, or choose View Developer to see other islands published by that developer.
Menu labels and the exact placement of the Search control can change by platform and Fortnite version. The Play-and-Search route is the most durable method because it does not depend on an older Creative hub layout.

The older Creative-server method
Epic has also documented a Creative-server route. Start a Creative server, approach a featured island rift, choose Set Island Code, enter the code, and play. This method may still be useful where that Creative interface is available, but the current Search flow is generally easier to explain and find.
What you should see after entering it
A valid island code should resolve to an island page or launchable island experience. If the result shows a different creator or map, stop and verify every character before launching. Search can accept several code types, so a creator identity or custom key may produce a different result from the map you expected.
What a redeem or product code does
A redeem code is tied to a purchase or entitlement rather than to a Creative map. When you redeem it, Epic applies the product to the Epic account that is signed in at the time. Epic’s support instructions direct players to use the Epic Games Launcher or the Epic Games Store redemption page.

Redeem a code in the Epic Games Launcher
- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Sign in to the Epic account that should own the product. Check the account before submitting the code; a successful redemption is associated with that signed-in account.
- Open the account menu and choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the product code exactly as supplied.
- Submit the code and wait for the confirmation message.
- Open the launcher’s Library to confirm that the product is available.
Epic states that a successful redemption makes the product available in the Epic Games Launcher Library. The library result is the useful confirmation; seeing a code accepted does not mean it belongs to a different account you use elsewhere.

- Open the Epic Games Store redemption page.
- Sign in to the intended Epic account.
- Enter the product code.
- Submit it and review the confirmation details.
Use the account that should permanently receive the entitlement. Epic warns that funds and purchases cannot be transferred between accounts. If you redeem on the wrong account, changing the display name or linking another platform account does not turn the entitlement into a transferable item.
What a product code does not do
- It does not open a Fortnite Creative island.
- It does not automatically select a creator in the Item Shop.
- It does not move an existing purchase from one Epic account to another.
- It does not become an account balance unless the code is specifically a gift-card code.
Is a creator code the same as an island code?
No. A creator code and an island code identify different things.
Support-A-Creator codes
A Support-A-Creator code is entered from Fortnite’s Shop tab. Select Support-A-Creator, enter the creator code, and confirm it. Epic states that these creator codes are not case sensitive. The purpose is creator attribution or shop support, not opening a particular map.
If someone gives you a creator code while recommending a map, treat the two values separately: use the island code in Fortnite Search to open the map, and use the creator code in the Item Shop only if you want to support that creator.

Epic’s developer-program documentation says a creator code is separate from an Epic account display name and serves as the developer name under which islands are published. That identity can help you find a creator’s other published islands, but it is not the access key for one specific island.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
Epic’s legal change log recorded a March 2026 clarification that Creator Codes are not allowed anywhere within Fortnite island content. Do not assume that a creator can place a Support-A-Creator code in island metadata or gameplay text. Creator identity and island access remain distinct, and current rules control how creators may present those identifiers.
What a Fortnite gift card code does
A Fortnite gift card is a physical redeemable product, not a map code. Epic says Fortnite gift cards can add funds to an Epic account balance, which can then be used for purchases through Epic’s payment system.
When a gift card is the right product
Choose a gift card when the intended result is account spending value. The recipient can use the resulting balance for eligible purchases through Epic’s payment system. A gift card does not open a Creative island and does not function as a Support-A-Creator code.

Before buying or redeeming a physical Fortnite gift card, confirm the intended Epic account and the card’s territory requirements. Country availability, authorized-seller status, and redemption conditions can vary. Do not treat a marketplace listing as official merely because it uses Fortnite branding; verify the seller and territory before paying.
During redemption, remain signed in to the account that should receive the balance. As with product entitlements, account selection matters because the value is attached to the Epic account used in the redemption flow.
Choose the correct code flow
Use the result you want as the decision rule:
- Open a player-made map: launch Fortnite, choose Play, and use Search or the island-code interface.
- Unlock a purchased game or entitlement: use Redeem Code in the Epic Games Launcher or Epic Games Store while signed in to the intended account.
- Support a creator in the shop: open Fortnite’s Shop tab and use Support-A-Creator.
- Find a creator’s published work: use the creator or developer identity in the relevant Fortnite discovery tools.
- Add spending value: follow Epic’s gift-card redemption route for the physical Fortnite gift card.
Troubleshooting island-code problems
The code does not find the map
Return to Fortnite’s Play/Search flow and check that you are entering the island code rather than a product or creator code. Re-enter the value exactly as provided. If Search returns several types of results, inspect the island name and developer before selecting it.

The map opens a different result
Fortnite Search accepts an island name or code, a creator code, and a custom key. A copied value can therefore resolve to a different kind of result. Compare the displayed island and developer with the information supplied by the creator, then favorite the correct result once found.
The old rift instructions do not match your screen
Use the current Play-and-Search route. Epic’s older Creative-server instructions rely on a featured island rift and the Set Island Code option; platform and version changes can make that route harder to locate.
The island is unavailable
An island code refers to a published island, not a permanent entitlement on your account. A creator can change or unpublish an experience, and Fortnite’s current availability or moderation state can affect whether it opens. If the code is correct but the island cannot be accessed, check the creator’s current listing or try again from the latest Fortnite version.

The code was entered in Fortnite Search
That is the wrong destination for a product code. Open the Epic Games Launcher or Epic Games Store redemption page, sign in, and use Redeem Code.
The product appeared on the wrong account
Epic says funds and purchases cannot be transferred between accounts. Before submitting a code, verify the account name and sign-in state. If redemption has already completed on another account, changing your Fortnite display name does not move the entitlement.
The code is accepted but the product is not visible
Check the Library in the Epic Games Launcher while signed in to the same Epic account used for redemption. A product entitlement is account-level; switching to another account can make a successful redemption appear to have disappeared.

A gift card was treated like a product code
Use Epic’s gift-card redemption flow instead of assuming every code belongs in the standard product field. Confirm the account and territory before redemption, then check the account balance after the transaction completes.
Account, ownership, and reversibility
Island access and account entitlements behave differently. An island code is a discovery and access key for a published experience. You can share it with other players, and players can search for the island without transferring ownership of a product. A product code creates an entitlement on one Epic account. A gift card creates account balance on one Epic account. Those account-level results are not interchangeable with a map visit.
This distinction also explains why account choice matters more for redeem codes and gift cards. If you are only opening a public island, the code points to the published experience. If you are claiming a purchase or funds, the signed-in Epic account is the destination.
Examples of the right answer in common situations
“A friend sent me a code for a horror map.”
Use Fortnite’s Play/Search flow. Confirm that the result shows the expected island and developer. Do not enter that code in the Epic Games Store redemption page.
“A retailer emailed me a code after I bought a game.”
Use Redeem Code in the Epic Games Launcher or Epic Games Store while signed in to the account that should own the purchase. Confirm the product in the Library.
“A streamer gave me a code to support them.”
Enter it in Fortnite’s Shop tab under Support-A-Creator. It is not necessarily the code for the map the streamer is playing.
“I bought a physical Fortnite gift card.”
Follow Epic’s gift-card redemption route and verify the receiving account and territory. The result should be account balance for eligible Epic purchases, not access to a particular island.
