Yes, Fortnite includes AI bots in Battle Royale matchmaking. But Epic’s current public guidance does not promise an all-bot lobby or provide a reliable way to force one. Skill-based matchmaking makes opponents of similar skill more likely; it does not guarantee that every opponent in a match is at the same skill level.
What “bot lobby” can mean
Players use “bot lobby” for two different things: a regular match that includes AI-controlled opponents, or a match made up entirely of bots. Epic’s public materials confirm bots in matchmaking, but the current support information reviewed does not confirm a guaranteed bot-only queue.
| What players mean | What Epic’s public guidance establishes |
|---|---|
| A Battle Royale match that includes AI bots | Epic says bots are part of Fortnite matchmaking. The share in a particular match is not stated as a current fixed percentage. |
| A match containing only bots | A current guaranteed option or repeatable official method is not established in the sources reviewed. |
How Fortnite matchmaking relates to bots
Epic says matchmaking considers player skill and makes it more likely that players will face opponents of similar skill. That is not a promise of an evenly matched lobby, nor is it a bot-lobby setting. Epic’s current matchmaking support article explains that players in one match can have different skill levels.
In a September 2019 announcement, Epic said bots would work alongside the matchmaking system and that players would encounter fewer bots as their skill improved. The announcement gives no current bot percentage, skill cutoff, or guaranteed bot share. Treat it as background on Epic’s announced design, not as a current recipe for getting a particular kind of match. Read Epic’s 2019 matchmaking and bots announcement.

Can you reliably get an all-bot lobby?
Epic’s current public support material does not publish an account-level threshold, a bot-only matchmaking switch, or step-by-step instructions for reliably entering an all-bot match. Epic said in an October 2019 update that it was considering a dedicated “vs. Bot” mode for practice, exploration, and improvement; that statement described a plan under consideration, not a confirmation that the mode launched or is available now. See Epic’s October 2019 update.
Community advice sometimes recommends using a low-level alternate account or another device to influence matchmaking. Epic’s cited public material does not verify those instructions, their claimed thresholds, or a guaranteed outcome. They can also become outdated as matchmaking changes, so do not treat them as an Epic-approved method.

What about alternate accounts and smurfing?
Epic’s October 2019 update states: “Smurfing is a bannable offense.” That is Epic’s published warning from 2019; it does not, by itself, establish how every alternate-account setup is treated under current policy. Check Epic’s current rules before changing how you use accounts, and do not assume an alternate-account matchmaking workaround is permitted.
Where to check Epic’s information
Epic’s current support page, “Are there bots in Fortnite?”, links readers to its official explanations of bots and matchmaking. Those pages confirm bots are part of Fortnite’s matchmaking context, but do not provide a current guaranteed bot-only method.
