A Cheat Code Locator points to the nearest Cheat Code in Fortnite Override; it does not directly locate a Sprite missing from your collection or guarantee a new one. Find and follow the Locator’s in-match guidance, interact with the Cheat Code, then enter the sequence shown in-game to free its Sprite.
What the Cheat Code Locator actually finds
Epic describes the item as: “Cheat Code Locator – Locates the nearest Cheat Code.” It is a Gizmo for finding a code, not a documented collection-aware tracker for Sprites you have not unlocked. The official notes do not specify its range, activation controls, cooldown, or whether it creates a map marker. Epic’s v42.00 update notes establish the Locator’s purpose but do not provide those operating details.

How to use a Locator to find and enter a Cheat Code
- Follow the in-match Locator instructions. Use the prompts or guidance the game displays for the item; Epic’s notes do not document a universal button sequence.
- Search the indicated area. Cheat Codes can be tucked into points of interest (POIs) or sprayed on walls. Listen for the code as well: Fortnitemares 2026 notes say Cheat Codes can be heard from farther away.
- Interact with the Cheat Code. Enter the sequence shown in-game to release its Sprite ally.
- Check your collection. Confirm whether the released Sprite is one you needed. If it is not, continue searching; the Locator’s documented function is finding the nearest code, not filtering for missing Sprites.
The Fortnitemares 2026 notes also mention that a Cheat Code may spawn in a tunnel near The Battlewoods and that interacting with that code was made easier. This is a possible spawn location, not a fixed location guaranteed in every match. Read Epic’s Fortnitemares 2026 notes.

Code color can help set expectations, but it does not identify a specific Sprite or guarantee one you lack. Epic’s v42.20 notes describe the outcomes qualitatively:
#1 Best Overall
- Darkfire Bundle: Including 3 outfits (with LEGO Styles) and back blings; Dark Power Chord, Dark Six String, Molten Omen, Molten Battle Shroud, Shadow Ark, Shadow Ark Wings, plus 3 wraps, 3 dual-wielding pickaxes, and an emote!
- Deep Freeze Bundle: Cool off with the Deep Freeze set and 1,000 V-Bucks. Includes the frostbite outfit (with LEGO Style), freezing point back bling, chill-axe pickaxe, and cold front glider.
- The Fortnite – Darkfire & Ice Bundle includes 10+ cosmetics and 1,000 V-Bucks!
| Cheat Code rarity | What Epic says it can yield |
|---|---|
| Rare (blue) | Any Sprite rarity can appear. |
| Epic (purple) | Any Sprite rarity can appear; chances of variants and higher-rarity Sprites are significantly increased. |
| Legendary (orange) | Guarantees a variant, with emphasis on higher-rarity Sprites; it does not guarantee a particular variant or a Sprite missing from your collection. |
Epic also says your chance of finding a new Sprite improves the longer you go without finding one, increasing the chance of a variant you do not already own. The notes do not publish numerical odds, so there is no reliable percentage or expected number of codes to use. Epic’s v42.20 update notes provide the rarity and variant details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a Locator may not give you a missing Sprite
The Locator finds the nearest Cheat Code, and entering a code frees a Sprite. Those are separate steps: nothing in the cited official notes says the Locator chooses a code based on your collection, or that the nearest code will produce a Sprite you do not own. Nor do the notes provide a complete guaranteed location map or exact drop probabilities. Treat each Locator as a way to find another opportunity, not a promise of a particular collection reward.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
