Fortitude converted borrowed Zcash into approximately $8.3 million of cash for a larger mining build-out. The company drew about 5,790.4798 ZEC under a credit facility from its parent, Digital Currency Group (DCG), valued at approximately $8.4 million when transferred, then sold the coins in market transactions. The resulting debt remains a U.S.-dollar obligation, so Fortitude obtained cash for capital spending while retaining repayment, market-price and execution risk.
How Fortitude turned borrowed ZEC into cash
The borrowing came from DCG
DCG is both Fortitude’s parent and its lender. Under an amended facility, DCG can advance ZEC instead of dollars. Fortitude’s October 2026 release says the company drew approximately 5,790.4798 ZEC. The transfer was valued at approximately $8.4 million under the facility terms.
Fortitude sold the coins
Fortitude liquidated the ZEC through one or more market transactions and reported aggregate proceeds of approximately $8.3 million. That figure is cash raised by selling borrowed cryptocurrency; the release does not describe it as mining revenue. Because the loan is denominated and repayable in U.S. dollars, selling the ZEC does not settle the debt. Fortitude must still repay the dollar obligation under the facility, regardless of the price it later receives for mined ZEC or the value of the cryptocurrency it sold.

The facility expanded in stages
An earlier SEC-filed release said an amendment increased the aggregate DCG commitment from $26 million to $50 million. Fortitude said approximately $31 million of remaining borrowing capacity was expected to be funded in ZEC and then sold to support expansion.

In its October 2026 release, Fortitude described a broader amended commitment of $70 million to support a potential investment involving BITMAIN. After a planned additional $20 million borrowing, the company said total borrowing would be approximately $47.3 million, leaving approximately $22.7 million of capacity. These announced amounts are forward-looking and can change with closing conditions, market prices and lender or transaction decisions.
What the proceeds are intended to pay for

- Purchasing additional mining machines
- Acquiring operating mining facilities
- Building new (“greenfield”) sites
- Expanding power, data-center and other infrastructure
The named equipment order is for 9,000 BITMAIN Antminer Z15 Pro units, Equihash ASIC miners designed for Zcash. Fortitude also announced priority allocation for BITMAIN’s next-generation Zcash equipment, with shipments expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027. That future allocation depends on final specifications, pricing and a binding purchase agreement.
Fortitude’s existing mining platform
Fortitude describes itself as a DCG-owned, vertically integrated venture-mining company focused on Zcash. Its company-reported operating footprint is approximately 5.0 GSol/s of ZEC-mining hashrate and more than 60 megawatts across seven U.S. sites. The model combines owned sites and power resources with in-house maintenance, giving Fortitude control over more of the physical infrastructure than a miner that relies entirely on hosting providers.

“Fortitude’s vision is to be the largest vertically-integrated Zcash mining platform,” CEO Jaime Leverton said.
Is the proposed $100 million BITMAIN deal binding?
No. The proposed arrangement is a non-binding letter of intent covering up to $100 million of next-generation Zcash equipment. The final specifications, pricing, shipment schedule and definitive purchase agreement had not been set in the announcement. The expected second-quarter-2027 shipping window is therefore a target, not a guaranteed delivery date.

Key risks behind the financing strategy
Dollar repayment versus ZEC volatility
Borrowing in ZEC and repaying in dollars creates a mismatch between the asset received and the liability owed. Fortitude’s sale converts the draw to cash immediately, but the company remains exposed to the cost and timing of dollar repayment. Future ZEC-price movements can also affect mining economics, even though this particular draw was sold rather than retained.

Execution and market risk
Large equipment purchases, site acquisitions and new construction depend on power availability, permitting, supplier performance and capital deployment. Market conditions can affect the price Fortitude receives when liquidating ZEC, while hardware specifications and delivery timing can change before a definitive order is signed.
Other forward-looking transactions
Fortitude has warned that its financing, equipment, expansion and transaction statements are forward-looking. The proposed business combination with HeartSciences is expected to provide public-market access, but it could be delayed or not completed. The same uncertainty applies to capacity figures and planned borrowings until the relevant transactions close.
