If you forgot your Samsung tablet’s pattern, the only documented way to regain access without erasing data may be to use the previous screen lock—if you changed it recently and your tablet supports the feature. Otherwise, Samsung’s documented remote options reset or erase the tablet; they do not bypass the lock while preserving inaccessible data.
First check whether you recently changed the pattern
Samsung India says Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later may let you unlock with the previous PIN, password, or pattern after a lock change. The previous lock remains available for 72 hours, and the recovery option can be used once per lock type. These details come from Samsung India support, updated July 10, 2026, and may vary by region, model, and software version: Samsung’s previous-lock guidance.
- After five or more failed attempts, look for the “Forgot PIN/Password/Pattern” option on the lock screen.
- Choose the option and enter the previous lock credential when prompted.
- Stop if you are unsure of the previous credential. Samsung says three incorrect attempts to enter it end further attempts.
This is a limited recovery window, not a general pattern-bypass method. Avoid repeated guessing: it will not recover the old lock once the applicable attempt limit is reached.

If the previous-lock option is unavailable, understand the reset trade-off
Samsung’s documented remote recovery routes erase or reset the tablet; they do not provide a way to read its locked data. Before using one, confirm that important files are backed up and that you can sign in to the account associated with the device. SmartThings Find
Samsung’s remote erase guidance requires the Samsung account associated with the tablet and the applicable setup and connectivity conditions. If the tablet is not reachable or the required feature was not available or set up, this route may not work. It is an erase option, not a remote unlock.
Google Find My Device
Samsung US says Google Find My Device may be used to reset a device that was set up with a Google account. This is not a way to access locked files, and availability depends on the tablet’s setup and reachability. Samsung’s guidance is at Samsung US: unlock your Galaxy device.

Be prepared for Google device protection after a reset
After a factory reset, Google device protection may ask for a Google account that was previously registered on the tablet. Make sure you know those credentials before proceeding; a reset alone may not leave the device ready for setup. Samsung explains this in its Galaxy unlock and reset guidance.

Why older remote-unlock instructions may not work
Do not rely on older instructions claiming that SmartThings Find can remotely unlock a Galaxy tablet. Samsung UK says remote unlocking through SmartThings Find is no longer possible. When to contact Samsung support
If the previous-lock recovery window does not apply, remote erasure is unavailable, or you are uncertain about the correct reset method for your model, contact Samsung support or an authorized service center. Samsung recommends an authorized service center for factory-reset assistance or suspected device issues. Use the regional support page for your exact Galaxy Tab model rather than trying a generic button sequence; the reset procedure is not established as identical across all models.
