Forgepoint announced a $9.8 million seed round on October 14, 2026, to expand Frank, an AI inside-sales representative built for manufacturing companies. Frank handles the administrative work around a quote request—from reading drawings and finding missing specifications to applying a shop’s pricing rules, preparing documents and following up—while engineers, estimators and sales staff keep technical and commercial authority.
What Forgepoint raised and why it matters
The San Francisco startup was founded by Jack Strauss and Alex Pareto. Primary Venture Partners and a16z speedrun led the seed financing, with angel participation associated with OpenAI, Brex, Vercel and SoFi. The a16z speedrun profile lists Forgepoint as founded in 2025 and had the company at eight employees when that profile was published.
Forgepoint’s thesis is that many manufacturers have automated production equipment faster than they have automated the office work that surrounds it. RFQ intake, estimating, sales follow-up, procurement coordination and order administration still often depend on people moving information between email, spreadsheets, drawings and business systems. Slow responses can cost a shop an order before its team has completed a technically sound estimate.

SiliconANGLE reported that more than half of manufacturing firms expect a vendor response within 24 hours, citing Gardner Intelligence. The same report attributed a 78% first-response buying rate to Forgepoint’s own 2026 research. That 78% figure is a company claim, not an independently verified industry statistic.

How Frank automates a manufacturing RFQ
Forgepoint describes Frank as an AI inside-sales representative rather than an autonomous estimator. Its workflow has four connected stages.
1. Qualify the request
Frank reads incoming RFQs and their attachments, including part files and drawings. It identifies missing dimensions, materials, tolerances or other specifications and asks the customer for what is needed. This turns an incomplete email into a structured request instead of making an estimator discover omissions manually.
2. Build a price using the shop’s rules
The system applies each manufacturer’s own cost model. It can use catalogs, material lists, cut lengths, inventory, customer-specific pricing, exceptions and similar historical jobs. Forgepoint says the model is configured to the individual shop rather than imposing a universal industry formula.

3. Route work and prepare the quote
When a technical or commercial judgment is required, Frank routes a draft to the appropriate engineer, estimator or sales representative. It creates the final document in the manufacturer’s template after approval, rather than sending an unreviewed AI response.
4. Send, follow up and record activity
Frank sends the approved quote, manages follow-up and records emails, attachments and actions in CRM or ERP systems. That activity log gives the team a history of what was requested, priced, approved and communicated.

- Inventory-based operations: check available stock while applying customer-specific pricing.
- Foundries: inspect part files, request missing drawing specifications and prepare an engineer’s first draft.
- Other target segments: injection molding, automation, fabrication, stamping and machining.
These examples illustrate why a generic chatbot is not enough for a manufacturing quote. The useful output depends on the company’s materials, equipment, labor assumptions, inventory, customer agreements and approval policy.

No. Forgepoint’s stated operating model keeps technical and commercial decisions with human staff. Frank gathers information, performs repeatable calculations according to configured rules, drafts documents and handles follow-up. People review uncertain specifications, validate manufacturability, approve prices and decide whether to accept the work.
That division also creates a practical control point: a shop can require engineering approval for unusual geometry or incomplete drawings and sales approval for discounts or nonstandard terms. The software is intended to increase the number of requests a team can process, not to make the AI the final authority.

Chas Aday, founder and CRO of SIP Manufacturing, described the change this way: “Before Forgepoint, we were building quotes by hand and barely keeping up. Now, Frank drafts and I can approve it in two minutes. I’m spending less time entering data and more time serving my customers.” That is a customer testimonial, not a controlled comparison across manufacturers.
What the funding could enable
The investment gives Forgepoint capital to expand a product that must be adapted to each shop’s data and approval process. The core challenge is not simply generating text; it is connecting RFQ email and attachments to pricing logic, historical jobs, inventory, document templates and CRM or ERP records without losing human review.

Zach Fredericks of Primary Venture Partners said, “A manufacturer’s ability to grow depends on how much work its team can quote, plan, and manage.” He added that Forgepoint is giving those teams more capacity, starting with quoting. The company’s early revenue and usage claims indicate commercial traction, but the announcement does not provide customer counts, contract sizes, implementation times or independent performance studies.
What manufacturers should evaluate before adopting AI quoting
- RFQ intake: Can the system process email, attachments and drawings, then chase missing specifications?
- Pricing fidelity: Can it represent the shop’s cost model, catalog, inventory, customer pricing and exceptions?
- Human controls: Are engineering review, approval routing and commercial sign-off configurable?
- System integration: Can it write to the existing CRM or ERP, use approved document templates and retain correspondence?
- Evidence: Are throughput and time-to-quote improvements measured for the specific shop, with a clear baseline and review period?
A manufacturer considering Frank should map a representative set of recent RFQs, including incomplete requests and unusual jobs, then define which decisions the software may draft and which require approval. The reported 30% throughput gain and more-than-55% faster quoting are useful benchmarks to investigate, not guarantees for every operation.
Bottom line
Forgepoint’s $9.8 million seed round backs an attempt to automate the slow, fragmented work surrounding manufacturing quotes. Frank’s differentiator is its combination of RFQ reading, shop-specific pricing, human routing, document generation, follow-up and CRM/ERP logging. It is best understood as a supervised quoting and inside-sales layer: a way to let experienced people handle more opportunities while they retain responsibility for engineering and commercial decisions.
