AnitaB.org has cancelled the 2026 Grace Hopper Celebration, which was scheduled for October 27–30 in Anaheim, California. The organization says individual registrations and sponsorship commitments came in significantly below expectations, leaving it without funds to cover production costs. For attendees, the immediate consequences are practical: check travel bookings and watch for AnitaB.org’s message about registration fees. For women in AI and technology, it also means losing a planned venue for networking, professional development, and community—though the announcement does not establish what the cancellation means for careers or representation across the industry.
Why AnitaB.org cancelled the 2026 event
AnitaB.org said it could not cover the event’s production costs because individual registrations and sponsorship commitments were significantly below expectations. It also said the circumstances surrounding the cancellation adversely affected its finances. The announcement provides no registration count, sponsorship total, production-cost figure, or amount for the shortfall, so it is not possible to quantify the gap. AnitaB.org’s announcement does not explain why registrations or sponsorship commitments fell short.
The Celebration had been scheduled for October 27–30, 2026, in Anaheim, California. Its official event page carries the cancellation notice; older promotional information about those dates should not be taken as confirmation that the event is proceeding.
What the cancellation means for women in AI
The Celebration was a planned gathering for networking, professional development, and community. Its cancellation removes that opportunity from the 2026 calendar for people who expected to attend, speak, recruit, or meet peers there. That is a meaningful immediate loss, particularly for attendees who had set aside time and money to participate.

It does not, by itself, show that women’s hiring, representation, or career prospects in AI have changed. AnitaB.org’s notice concerns this event’s finances and future programming; it gives no data about the wider AI labor market or the effects of the cancellation on individual careers.
In the announcement, AnitaB.org President and CEO Brenda Darden Wilkerson framed the loss in terms of the community: “It is about a community that has spent decades opening doors, expanding opportunity, and making sure women technologists have a voice in shaping the future of technology.” The organization says it is evaluating strategic alternatives and possible future programming. It has not announced a replacement or said the Celebration is permanently over.

What registrants and travelers should do
- Contact travel providers about transport. Ask the airline, rail operator, or other transport provider about changing or cancelling your reservation and any applicable deadlines or fees.
- Check independently booked accommodation. Contact the hotel or booking provider directly to review cancellation terms. Do not assume an independent hotel reservation will be cancelled automatically with the event.
- Watch for AnitaB.org’s registration-fee update. The organization says it will contact registrants about registration fees by October 26, 2026. The cancellation notice does not promise a refund, so wait for the organizer’s instructions rather than treating a refund as confirmed.
- Use the direct contact address for event questions. AnitaB.org lists GHC@AnitaB.org for cancellation questions. It says it will contact affected parties directly about registration, sponsorship, exhibitor commitments, and other financial matters.
What is—and is not—known about future programming
AnitaB.org says it is assessing strategic alternatives and possible future programming, but it has not named a new event, format, location, or date. The cancellation notice therefore supports no conclusion that another US Celebration will take place or that the event series has ended.

Its event platform should not be read as confirmation of a substitute US program.
