For gaming and multitasking, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is the safer choice based on the features its manufacturer documents. It combines an 8-inch 120Hz inner screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy silicon, real-time ray tracing support and One UI 8 features designed around multiple apps. Apple’s iPhone Duo is a compelling alternative for people committed to Apple’s ecosystem: it has a 7.6-inch inner display, A20 Pro, ProMotion and iOS 27, but Apple’s launch material gives fewer concrete details about split-screen workflows and game-specific graphics.
The comparison is between the Galaxy Z Fold7, announced July 9, 2025, and Apple’s iPhone Duo, introduced September 9, 2026. iPhone Duo pre-orders began October 16, 2026, with availability scheduled for October 23, 2026.
Quick answer: which foldable wins?
| Use case | Better-supported choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics-heavy gaming | Galaxy Z Fold7 | Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, Samsung-published GPU gains and documented real-time ray tracing support. |
| Running several apps at once | Galaxy Z Fold7 | Samsung explicitly describes an expanded multi-app workspace and One UI 8 optimization for the foldable format. |
| Apple ecosystem continuity | iPhone Duo | It runs iOS 27 and is designed to keep Apple services, accessories and familiar iPhone workflows together. |
| Largest inner display | Galaxy Z Fold7 | Its main screen is 8 inches versus 7.6 inches for iPhone Duo. |
| Published brightness and water-resistance headline | iPhone Duo | Apple specifies up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness and an IP68 rating. |
| Published closed weight and thickness | Galaxy Z Fold7 | Samsung lists 215 grams and 8.9mm when folded; Apple’s cited launch release does not give a comparable weight. |
This is a documented-feature comparison, not a benchmark verdict. Independent tests of sustained frame rates, heat, game compatibility and hinge life were not established in the cited materials, so claims about long-session performance should remain qualified.

Graphics hardware and ray tracing
The Galaxy Z Fold7 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. Samsung reports gains of 41% in NPU performance, 38% in CPU performance and 26% in GPU performance versus the previous generation. Those percentages are Samsung’s published comparisons, not independent benchmark results.

- ALL THE POWER AND SPEED YOU NEED Smoothly run your day with the power and speed of Galaxy Z Fold7. With its customized Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for Galaxy, you can stream your favorite shows, edit photos, scroll social feeds and more with ease.³
Samsung’s regional specifications also explicitly list support for real-time ray tracing. That matters for games that implement the feature: lighting and reflections can be rendered more realistically, although the actual benefit depends on each game’s engine, graphics settings and frame-rate target. Ray tracing support does not prove that every demanding title will run at a high frame rate.
Apple identifies the iPhone Duo’s processor as A20 Pro and says the phone is intended for gaming. The launch announcement does not provide a comparable ray-tracing statement, GPU percentage or sustained-performance measurement. A20 Pro may be very fast, but the available release does not establish a graphics advantage over Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy.
Screen size, refresh and playability
The Fold7 opens to an 8-inch main display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Its 6.5-inch cover display is also rated at 120Hz, so quick games and scrolling can feel fluid whether the phone is open or closed.

iPhone Duo opens to a 7.6-inch inner display and has a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple calls both screens ProMotion displays, but the cited announcement does not state a numeric refresh rate. The inner panel is still 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display, according to Apple, giving games substantially more space than a conventional iPhone.
The Fold7 has the larger canvas by 0.4 inches diagonally. That difference is noticeable for virtual controls, strategy maps and split-screen game guides, but it is not enough by itself to determine image quality. Aspect ratios, game-specific scaling and whether a title supports the inner display’s layout are practical questions that require testing with the games you play.
Sustained performance and heat
Both phones use high-end processors and folding designs that need to manage heat in a thin body. Samsung publishes a 4,400mAh battery and a vapor-cooling-oriented performance story through the Snapdragon platform, while Apple specifies a dual-battery architecture with a custom vapor chamber. Neither cited release supplies independent thermal measurements, sustained frame-rate charts or a maximum gaming temperature.
Rank #2
- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
For a buyer, the correct interpretation is narrower: the Fold7 has more explicitly documented gaming features, while the iPhone Duo has a new flagship chip and dedicated cooling hardware but less published game-specific detail. Long sessions, demanding 3D titles and charging while playing should be judged from independent testing after the iPhone Duo reaches stores.
Controllers, sound and the foldable format
An open foldable can act like a small gaming tablet, leaving more room for touch controls and menus. The Fold7’s 8-inch panel gives it a slight size advantage, and its 6.5-inch cover screen is large enough for quick play without opening the hinge. iPhone Duo’s 7.6-inch inner panel and 5.4-inch outer panel offer the same two-mode idea at slightly smaller sizes.
Neither Apple nor Samsung’s cited launch materials specify included game controllers, controller latency, speaker measurements or a universal compatibility list. If you use a physical controller, check the controller maker’s current support list and the phone’s case clearance rather than assuming that every accessory will fit a folding design.
Multitasking: the Galaxy’s software lead is clearer
Galaxy Z Fold7 and One UI 8
Samsung explicitly describes the Fold7 as providing an expanded workspace for multiple apps and says One UI 8 is optimized for the foldable form. That makes the Fold7 the better-supported answer to “Can I run two apps side by side?” The large inner display is intended for combinations such as a browser beside notes, a video beside chat, or a document beside a calculator.
The practical advantage is not just screen area. One UI’s foldable layout is designed to preserve a workspace when the phone opens, place apps in separate panes and let you move between more than one task without constantly leaving the current app. Exact app behavior can vary: some apps support a true side-by-side layout, while others may use a narrow column, a floating window or a letterboxed view.
iPhone Duo and iOS 27
Apple markets iPhone Duo for multitasking and productivity and says its larger display helps users stay immersed while moving across apps. It runs iOS 27 and should feel familiar to people already using Apple services, but the cited launch release does not spell out split-screen controls, desktop-style windowing or the number of simultaneously visible apps.
Rank #3
- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
That distinction matters. iPhone Duo may offer useful multitasking features, yet Apple’s announcement does not establish that it matches the Fold7’s multi-window model. Buyers who need a documented two-app workflow should favor the Galaxy; buyers who mainly want a larger canvas for switching between apps may prefer the iPhone’s familiar operating system.
What side-by-side use means in practice
- For research and writing: the Fold7’s explicitly expanded workspace is the lower-risk choice for keeping reference material and an editor visible together.
- For video and messaging: either phone’s inner display can provide more room than a standard handset, but the exact arrangement depends on app support.
- For navigation and travel: the cover displays let you use the phone closed; the Fold7 offers a larger 6.5-inch outer panel than iPhone Duo’s 5.4-inch panel.
- For Apple continuity: iPhone Duo is the natural fit if your files, messages and other services already live in Apple’s ecosystem.
Display and physical specifications
| Specification | iPhone Duo | Galaxy Z Fold7 |
|---|---|---|
| Inner display | 7.6 inches | 8 inches |
| Outer or cover display | 5.4 inches | 6.5 inches |
| Refresh information | ProMotion displays; Apple’s cited release does not give a numeric rate. | 120Hz inner and 120Hz cover displays. |
| Peak outdoor brightness | Up to 3,000 nits, according to Apple. | Samsung’s cited specifications do not provide a comparable peak-brightness figure. |
| Folded thickness | Not stated in Apple’s cited launch release. | 8.9mm. |
| Unfolded thickness | Not stated in Apple’s cited launch release. | 4.2mm. |
| Weight | Not stated in Apple’s cited launch release. | 215 grams. |
| Change from prior model | Apple says the inner display is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. | Samsung says the main display is 11% larger than the previous generation. |
These figures come from Apple’s 2026 announcement and Samsung’s 2025 announcement or 2026 regional specifications. They are not a substitute for measuring both phones in the same case and regional configuration.
Portability when closed
Foldables trade a larger open screen for a thicker closed device. Samsung publishes the Fold7’s 215-gram weight and 8.9mm folded thickness, which gives shoppers concrete portability numbers. Apple’s cited iPhone Duo release does not provide a comparable weight or folded thickness, so it is not possible to declare it lighter or slimmer from the available specifications.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe outer-screen difference is easier to establish: the Fold7’s 6.5-inch cover display is 1.1 inches larger diagonally than iPhone Duo’s 5.4-inch outer display. That favors Samsung for reading, typing and gaming without opening the hinge. iPhone Duo may still be easier for people who prefer Apple’s software and accessories, but its physical advantage is not documented here.
Battery capacity and runtime evidence
Galaxy Z Fold7 has a 4,400mAh battery. Samsung states up to 24 hours of video playback. “Up to” is a controlled manufacturer claim rather than a promise for gaming: screen brightness, network use, game load, temperature and refresh behavior can all reduce runtime.
Apple describes iPhone Duo’s dual-battery architecture and custom vapor chamber but does not give a battery capacity or a comparable video-playback number in the cited launch release. That means the Fold7 has the stronger published battery evidence, while iPhone Duo’s real-world endurance remains a launch-time question.

For gaming, battery capacity alone is an incomplete metric. A demanding 3D title can consume power much faster than offline video, and a larger 120Hz display can change usage. Wait for independent tests that measure the same game, brightness and network conditions before treating either phone as the endurance winner.

Durability, water resistance and long-term support
iPhone Duo’s published protection
Apple rates iPhone Duo IP68 and lists grade 5 titanium with Ceramic Shield materials. These are strong headline durability specifications for a foldable phone. IP68 describes resistance under the rating’s test conditions; it does not make a device immune to drops, hinge damage, salt water or liquid ingress over time.
Galaxy Z Fold7’s construction and updates
Samsung publishes hinge, glass and reinforced-frame details for Galaxy Z Fold7 and guarantees seven years of Android and security updates. That long support window is useful if you plan to keep the phone through several game releases or work cycles.
The cited material does not establish comparative long-term hinge-life testing, drop testing or water-resistance superiority. Apple’s IP68 statement and Samsung’s structural details should therefore be read as different kinds of evidence, not as a definitive durability ranking.

iPhone Duo is the better fit when your daily life already depends on Apple’s ecosystem. Apple positions the phone as a continuation of the iPhone experience, with iOS 27, familiar services and continuity across Apple hardware. That can outweigh a smaller outer display or less-detailed multitasking documentation for someone who values a consistent platform.

Launch timing, price and accessories
Galaxy Z Fold7 was announced on July 9, 2025. Apple introduced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026; pre-orders began October 16, 2026, and availability is scheduled for October 23, 2026.
The cited Apple and Samsung materials do not state launch prices, so a price-performance winner cannot be calculated from these specifications. Regional storage tiers, taxes, carrier promotions and trade-in offers can also change the final cost.
Accessory availability is similarly region-dependent. Before buying, verify that a case leaves room for the hinge, that a screen protector is designed for the correct inner and outer panels, and that your USB-C charger and controller are supported. Inventory and compatibility can change around launch, especially for a new foldable.
Questions still worth checking after launch
- Do the games you play render correctly on each inner display, or do they use borders and stretched layouts?
- What frame rates do both phones sustain after 30 to 60 minutes, rather than during a short benchmark?
- How hot do the hinge area, frame and rear panel become during charging and gaming?
- How does iOS 27 implement two-app or floating-window workflows on iPhone Duo?
- How many years of hinge and inner-screen use do independent durability tests support?
- Which cases, protectors and game controllers are available in your country on the purchase date?
Choose by your priority
- Choose Galaxy Z Fold7 for documented gaming features. Its Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, stated GPU gains, real-time ray tracing support and 8-inch 120Hz display give it the clearer specification-based advantage.
- Choose Galaxy Z Fold7 for serious multi-app work. Samsung explicitly describes an expanded workspace and One UI 8 foldable optimization, making it the safer option for side-by-side apps.
- Choose iPhone Duo for Apple ecosystem continuity. A20 Pro, iOS 27, ProMotion and the 7.6-inch inner screen make it a strong choice if your apps, services and accessories are already centered on Apple.
- Choose iPhone Duo for the published brightness and protection claims. Up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness, IP68, grade 5 titanium and Ceramic Shield are the clearest headline advantages in Apple’s release.
- Wait for independent testing if sustained performance is decisive. Neither launch package establishes long-session frame rates, thermal limits, game compatibility or comparative hinge life.
“With the largest display ever on iPhone that still fits easily in your pocket, combined with the power of A20 Pro, iPhone Duo helps you stay more immersed and productive wherever you go, whether you’re enjoying content, multitasking across apps, or gaming.” — John Ternus, Apple, 2026.
“This next chapter of foldables brings together design and engineering, with AI built specifically for the foldable form. It gives people the ultra experience they want — powerful, immersive, intelligent, and portable all in one.” — TM Roh, Samsung Electronics, 2025.
