Alexander Pompili’s KashIQ post describes a Flutter personal-finance app that keeps its working data on-device, runs selected routines in native C++, and uses QR codes to transfer sync key material. But its reported sync flow also has the receiving device download an encrypted backup from cloud storage. That makes it an offline-capable design with remote encrypted-blob sync—not a fully air-gapped, zero-cloud system. The distinction matters: local processing, encryption, and the path data takes between devices are separate parts of the privacy story.
What the KashIQ architecture is reported to do
In his post about KashIQ, Pompili describes a Flutter app using Riverpod, Drift with SQLite, SQLite3MultipleCiphers/SQLCipher, a Hive cache, native C++ routines, and QR-based device pairing. These are the author’s reported implementation details; the post has not been independently audited here.
The important architectural separation is between where the app works and how it synchronizes. Local storage can let a user view or enter information without a connection. A separate sync mechanism can move encrypted data between devices. KashIQ’s described mechanism uses an optical QR transfer for key material, followed by a download of an encrypted backup blob from cloud storage on the receiving device. The QR code therefore does not, by itself, make the full sync air-gapped.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat “zero-cloud” would mean—and what this flow does
A genuinely cloud-free device-to-device sync would transfer the data between devices without relying on a remote storage service. In the flow Pompili describes, cloud storage is part of the transfer path, even if the stored backup is encrypted. A service that stores ciphertext may not be able to read its contents, but the exact protection depends on the encryption design and key handling. The post’s description alone does not establish those properties.

It is useful to distinguish three claims: the app may perform its everyday work locally; the cloud may store encrypted rather than readable backup data; and the synchronization process may still depend on a cloud download. Those claims are compatible, but none proves the other two.
How Flutter can call native C++ through FFI
Dart FFI lets Dart call native functions through a C-compatible interface. It does not expose arbitrary C++ classes or methods directly. A C++ implementation generally needs a narrow C ABI boundary: exported functions with C-compatible arguments and return values, with C++ symbols declared using extern "C" where appropriate. The official Dart C interop guide explains the interop model, while Flutter’s current guide to binding native code covers building and bundling native libraries.
Use the current Flutter setup guidance
Flutter’s current guidance recommends the package_ffi template with build hooks for new packages, starting with Flutter 3.38. That is a more current default than older examples that manually load a library in each platform-specific project. The legacy FFI plugin guide can still be relevant for existing plugins or particular linking and packaging arrangements.

Keep the boundary small and explicit
A practical FFI boundary should pass simple, well-defined values and make ownership and lifetime rules clear. Dart and native code must agree on data layout, string encoding, memory allocation, error handling, and which side releases buffers. Those details are not incidental: a mismatched type or lifetime can cause incorrect results or crashes even when the function name resolves correctly.
FFI is most useful when there is a concrete reason to call native code—for example, reuse of an existing native library or a measured bottleneck. Moving a routine to C++ adds build, packaging, debugging, and interop complexity. The fact that code is native does not establish that it is faster for a particular workload.
What “quant math” does—and does not—establish
Pompili names Kalman filters, Markov chains, and FFT among the techniques used on spending data. Those are distinct mathematical tools, not interchangeable signs that an app has predictive or financial insight. A Kalman filter estimates changing hidden values from noisy observations; a Markov chain models transitions among defined states; and a fast Fourier transform helps analyze frequency components in a signal.
The usefulness of any of them depends on the question being asked, the way spending data is represented, and whether the assumptions fit the data. The post’s surfaced account does not independently establish the routines’ exact inputs, statistical design, accuracy, or user-facing effect. Treat the named methods as the author’s description of the implementation, not as evidence that the app’s forecasts or classifications are validated.

- Two modes of data transfer: Instant transfer mode/storage mode. in offline storage mode. The barcode scanner can automatically store the barcode data in the device. Upload data to your device in bulk when required. The barcode data can be stored up to 150.000 barcodes
The post also reports processing in “under 100 milliseconds,” but the surfaced material does not provide a device, workload, test setup, or independent benchmark. That number should be read as the author’s claim about the described app, not as a general performance result for Flutter, C++, or these algorithms.
Offline-first is a product behavior, not a security guarantee
Flutter defines an offline-first app as “an app capable of offering most or all of its functionality while being disconnected from the internet” in its offline-first architecture guide. That describes availability while disconnected; it does not mean that the app never uses a server or that its stored data is secure.
For a finance app, the key design question is which operations remain available offline and what happens when connectivity returns. A local database can support reading and entering records. Sync then has to decide how to transfer changes and handle conflicts, interrupted uploads, stale copies, and restore. Flutter’s guide presents offline-first as an architectural pattern whose synchronization strategy depends on the app’s requirements, not as a single implementation recipe.

What QR sync changes in the security and recovery model
A QR code can carry data between devices through their cameras and displays. Scanner and renderer software can handle that exchange: package documentation is available for an offline barcode scanner and for QR rendering. Those package pages establish that software-based scanning and rendering are options; they do not show that KashIQ uses either package, nor do they imply a dedicated scanner or printer is needed.

If a QR code carries key material, it becomes a sensitive part of enrollment. The design needs to account for who can view or capture the code, how the user confirms the intended receiving device, whether the code can be reused, and what happens if a device is lost or replaced. These are questions a reader should ask of any such design; the post’s account does not establish how KashIQ handles each one.
Similarly, calling a backup encrypted is not enough to assess confidentiality. Relevant details include where keys are generated and stored, how they are exchanged and rotated, the encryption configuration, and whether temporary copies or caches persist. Pompili uses “AES-256” and “military-grade” language, but those labels alone do not demonstrate that the overall system is secure. No cryptographic audit or reproducible implementation review is established by the post.
How to evaluate a similar Flutter design
- Map data movement. Identify what stays on the device, what is placed in remote storage, and what the QR exchange contains. “Encrypted” describes a property claimed for stored data, not whether a cloud service participates.
- Specify offline behavior. List which actions must work without connectivity and define how local changes reconcile with another device’s copy.
- Choose FFI for a reason. Name the native dependency or bottleneck first, then compare it with a Dart implementation using measurements from the target devices and workload.
- Review the interop contract. Check exported symbols, data types, memory ownership, error paths, and native-library packaging for every supported platform.
- Plan enrollment and recovery. Document how a second device is trusted, how keys can be revoked or replaced, and how a user restores access if a device is lost.
- Test the full lifecycle. Include offline edits, interrupted sync, conflicting updates, backup restoration, app upgrades, and device replacement—not just a successful QR scan.
The author’s closing line, “The architecture is the product,” is a useful design sentiment, but it is not an independent finding about performance or security. The practical lesson is to assess each boundary—local storage, native code, key transfer, and remote backup—on its own terms.
