Flock Safety told Axios that its network had more than 120,000 cameras across the United States, according to a report published August 17, 2026. That is the latest specific nationwide figure available here—not an independently verified exact census or a live count for October 2026.

What does the figure count?

The figure refers to cameras in Flock Safety’s network. It is not a count of every automated license plate reader (ALPR) in the country, and it should not be combined with camera totals from other vendors. Axios attributed the “more than 120,000” figure to Flock Safety; the company-reported number is a threshold, not an exact total. Axios reported the figure on August 17, 2026.

Flock describes its license plate reader cameras as capturing point-in-time vehicle images and limited details such as the plate, make, color, and distinguishing features. The company says agencies control data-sharing permissions. Those are Flock’s descriptions of its system and policies, not independent findings. Flock’s Press Center FAQ discusses camera data and deployments.

Why there is no precise public total

Flock’s official FAQ says it does not share details about individual agency contracts, camera counts, locations, or deployments. That prevents the public from assembling a complete national total from the company’s deployment disclosures. The FAQ directs questions about deployment specifics to the customer agency. The figure reported by Axios is therefore useful as a dated indication of network scale, but the available evidence does not establish an independently audited nationwide count. Because the figure is time-sensitive, it should not be presented as the current October 2026 total.

Agency access is not the same as camera count

The Associated Press reported on August 13, 2026, that thousands of law-enforcement agencies in 49 states could search and share Flock data across jurisdictions. That describes agency reach—not the number of cameras, how many each agency owns, or how many agencies have installed cameras. The AP also described public concerns about access and misuse as part of the debate over the network. The Associated Press report covers the platform changes and backlash.

How to find the count for your community

For a local figure, start with the city or police department that may operate the cameras. Look for its contract, public camera inventory, or public-records materials; if those do not answer the question, ask the agency directly. Flock’s FAQ says the company does not publish counts for individual deployments and points readers to its customer agencies for those details.
