Godlike.Host offers hosted 7 Days to Die servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
The 7 Days to Die message ArgumentException: An element with the same key already exists in the dictionary is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The first subsystem named in the stack trace tells you whether to remove a duplicated startup flag, isolate a mod, replace a corrupted world Power.dat, or correct a version mismatch. Do not delete save files until the trace points to PowerManager or a persisted world coordinate.
These procedures apply to dedicated servers and local games, but menu names and file locations vary by platform and host. The cited forum cases are historical, so confirm behavior on the current game, server, and mod versions you run.

What the exception actually means
A dictionary stores values under unique keys. The exception appears when 7 Days to Die tries to add a second value under a key that is already present. The key might be a command-line option, an asset name, or a saved electrical-network coordinate. Because those systems load at different times, the same wording can represent unrelated faults.
Read the complete stack trace rather than stopping at the first line. Find the first game subsystem mentioned after Dictionary.Add. A trace containing ParseCommandLine points to startup arguments; ModManager, texture, icon, or XML-patch messages point to content; PowerManager.LoadPowerManager, PowerManager.AddPowerNode, or Vector3i points to saved world power data. A support reply also describes the message as potentially a mod or version-mismatch error in an A19.6/Darkness Falls case: The Fun Pimps forum case.

Do not infer the cause from when you first noticed the error. A server can begin failing after an update even though the duplicate entry was written to a save or introduced by a mod earlier.
Choose the repair from the stack trace
| Trace subsystem or clue | Primary action | Data-loss risk | Reversible? | Mods involved | Typical failure point |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
ParseCommandLine or startup-script entries |
Remove the repeated launch flag, especially a second -dedicated |
None to world data | Yes; edit the command back | No | Before world loading |
ModManager, duplicate ItemIcons, texture/icon loading, or XML patch warnings |
Move the Mods folder out, validate the base installation, then restore mods individually | None if you only move files | Yes; move the folder back | Yes | Content or asset loading |
PowerManager.LoadPowerManager, PowerManager.AddPowerNode, or duplicate Vector3i |
Back up the save and remove only that world’s Power.dat |
Stored electrical-network state can be lost | Yes if the backup is retained | Not necessarily | During world loading |
| Version clues, or the same error after a clean mod test | Align client, server, and mod versions; test a clean world or server profile | None during the comparison | Yes; restore the original profile | Possibly | Startup or world loading |
This triage reflects documented cases: a moderator explained a Linux server failure with “Which is understandable because you have -dedicated twice” (forum thread), while another log shows PowerManager.AddPowerNode failing on the coordinate -159, 28, 838 (forum thread).
Prepare a safe test before changing anything
- Stop the game and server cleanly. Do not edit a save while the dedicated-server process is running; it may rewrite the file or leave a partial save.
- Capture the full log and stack trace. Save the server console output or the client log supplied by your launcher or host. Keep the lines immediately before the exception, including subsystem names and any key or asset name.
- Make a complete save backup. Copy the entire affected world or server-save directory to a separate location. Label it with the date and game/server build so you can restore the original state.
- Change one variable at a time. First test the least destructive fix that matches the trace. A clean restart after each change tells you which action mattered.
If the server is managed by a hosting panel, use its stop, backup, file-manager, and restart controls rather than deleting files through an active console session.
Fix a duplicated startup argument
Recognize the command-line case
When the trace contains ParseCommandLine, startup-script names, or argument parsing, inspect every place that constructs the launch command. A Linux service file, shell script, server manager, and panel can each append options; the final command may therefore contain the same flag twice. The documented example had two -dedicated flags, which triggered the exception (The Fun Pimps moderator explanation).

Remove only the duplicate
- Open the script, service definition, or panel startup-settings page that actually launches the server.
- Read the rendered command from left to right and compare repeated flags and key-value options. Check both the visible settings and any custom launch-arguments field.
- Delete the second occurrence of the duplicated option; leave the first valid occurrence and unrelated settings unchanged.
- Save the command, start the server, and confirm that argument parsing completes before world loading.
If the duplicate returns after a restart, a second configuration layer is adding it. Compare the panel’s generated command with the script it calls and remove the option from only one layer. Do not “fix” this case by deleting the world: no save data is required to resolve a duplicated argument.
Isolate a mod or duplicate asset
Recognize content-loading clues
ModManager entries, texture or icon-loading failures, and XML patch warnings indicate that two content sources are registering the same name. A documented case reports duplicate ItemIcons files; the forum guidance is to remove the duplicate assets. Another moderator recommends removing all mods, validating the installation, and checking each mod individually (duplicate asset discussion; clean-mod troubleshooting).

- Stop the game or server.
- Move the complete
Modsfolder to a temporary location outside the game or server directory. Moving it, rather than deleting it, preserves your installation order and settings. - Use the platform’s “verify” or “validate files” function to repair the unmodded installation.
- Start a clean test. For a server, use a disposable server profile or world when possible; do not overwrite the production save during diagnosis.
- If the clean test succeeds, stop the process and restore one mod at a time. Start and test after each addition.
Handle the mod that reintroduces the error
When one addition causes the exception, inspect that mod’s archive and its installation instructions for duplicate icon, texture, or XML files. Remove the duplicate file or install a version that matches the game build. If two mods intentionally replace the same asset, you must choose one, find a compatible patch, or leave both disabled. Keep a copy of the original mod folder so you can undo the test.
A clean launch that still fails rules out the currently removed mods, but it does not prove that the save is healthy. Proceed to the version and world-data checks instead of adding mods back indiscriminately.

Repair a corrupted Power.dat file
Use this path only for a PowerManager trace
Choose this procedure when the stack includes PowerManager.LoadPowerManager, PowerManager.AddPowerNode, or a duplicate Vector3i coordinate. The coordinate in the forum log (-159, 28, 838) demonstrates that the duplicate can be a persisted world position, not a launch option (PowerManager log).
Pingperfect’s knowledge-base entry specifically warns that a corrupted Power.dat can produce this dictionary exception and prescribes a backup, deletion, and restart sequence (Power.dat guidance).

- Stop the server or game completely.
- Confirm that your full save backup from the preparation step contains the affected world.
- In that world’s save directory, identify
Power.dat. Do not delete similarly named files from other worlds or profiles. - Move
Power.datto the backup location or rename it instead of permanently deleting it. - Restart the same world and watch the log through world loading. The game should be able to create fresh power-network data.
- Enter the world and test electrical devices. Stored network connections may need to be rebuilt because the removed file held electrical-network state.
If the server still fails with the same PowerManager trace, stop it and restore the original Power.dat from the backup. The fault may involve another save file, a mod that writes power data, or a version mismatch; continue with a clean-profile test rather than repeatedly deleting files.
Resolve a version or profile mismatch
When the trace does not identify a duplicated flag, mod asset, or PowerManager record—or when the error survives the clean-mod test—compare every participating version:

- Game client build and dedicated-server build must be compatible.

- All players joining a modded server should use the same mod versions and load order required by the server.
- A world created under a different build may expose stale data only when the newer build loads it.
Test with a clean profile
- Record the current build numbers and mod list.
- Create a temporary server profile or clean world with no mods and start it.
- If the clean profile starts, stop it and restore the production data incrementally: first the world, then approved mods one at a time.
- If even the clean profile fails, validate or reinstall the base files and recheck the launch command; the problem is not confined to the original world.
The historical A19.6/Darkness Falls support case is a reminder that an old diagnosis may not map perfectly to a current build. Treat the subsystem in your present log as authoritative, and use older reports only as examples of possible causes.

- Restart once with the exact configuration that passed the test; avoid changing several flags or mods at the same time.
- Let the process reach the normal world-ready state before connecting players.
- Review the new log for the original exception, duplicate asset warnings, and any new errors introduced by the change.
- For a modded server, connect with a test account before restoring the full player population.
- Keep the dated backup until the world has loaded successfully and essential systems, especially electricity after a
Power.datreset, have been checked.
Common mistakes that make diagnosis harder
Deleting the whole save first
This destroys evidence and can remove player progress when the actual problem is a harmless duplicated launch flag. Preserve the save and select file-level removal only when the trace names the affected data.

Removing one random mod
Random removal cannot establish which asset registered the duplicate. A complete no-mod baseline followed by one-at-a-time restoration gives you a reproducible result.
Restoring every mod after a successful test
If the error returns, you have lost the information about which addition caused it. Restore in a fixed order and record the first failing mod or asset.

Assuming the exception identifies the file
The phrase “same key” does not name the key’s source. Only the surrounding stack trace, asset name, command-line option, or coordinate supplies that context.
When to stop and escalate
Escalate to your host or the game’s support channels with the complete stack trace, game and server versions, launch command, mod list, exact time of failure, and the result of the clean-profile test. State whether the failure occurs before world loading or while loading a particular world. Include the duplicate key or coordinate shown in the log, but do not upload an unredacted save if it contains private player or server information.
The practical rule is simple: fix command-line duplicates in the launcher, content duplicates with a clean mod baseline, and PowerManager duplicates by testing a backed-up Power.dat reset. If none of those trace-specific tests changes the result, treat version alignment and profile isolation as the next controlled experiment rather than repeatedly modifying the production save.
