A DC code on a Samsung washer can mean a door problem or an unbalanced load—the right meaning depends on the exact model. Check your washer’s manual or Samsung support page for your region before troubleshooting. If that model identifies DC as a door error, check the door and latch; if it identifies an imbalance, redistribute the laundry and check that the washer is stable.
Why the DC code needs a model-specific check
Samsung does not use DC uniformly across its washers. Its US and Caribbean guidance says that some models use DC for an unbalanced load while others use it for a door error. Samsung Australia also places DC in both categories. The code on the display alone therefore is not enough to identify the fault.
Find the complete model number on the washer and look up its user manual or the Samsung support page for your country. Follow the troubleshooting branch that source gives for your model. Regional guidance can differ: Samsung Hong Kong, for example, describes UE/DC as an unbalanced-load error for the front-load products covered by that page, not as a worldwide definition.
If your model identifies DC as a door error
- Stop and check the manual’s safety instructions. If it directs you to switch off or unplug the washer before inspecting the door area, do so.
- Close the door firmly. Check the opening for laundry or another obstruction that could prevent the door from closing, then see whether the latch engages normally.
- Check for damage. Do not force a locked door or attempt internal repairs based on the code alone. If the door or latch looks damaged, or the code remains after the basic checks, contact Samsung support or a qualified appliance technician.
Samsung India’s DE/DC support guidance treats the code as a door-left-open condition and advises clearing caught fabric and closing the door. That guidance applies to the products and market it covers; use your own model’s instructions if they differ.

If your model identifies DC as an unbalanced-load error
- Pause or restart only as the manual directs. Follow the instructions for your washer rather than opening a door that is locked.
- Untangle and redistribute the laundry. Spread items around the drum instead of leaving them bunched on one side. Pay particular attention to a single bulky or heavy item dominating the load.
- Check stability if imbalance or shaking recurs. Make sure the washer is installed level and does not rock. A small spirit level can help check whether the appliance is level; it cannot diagnose or fix a door or latch fault.
Samsung identifies load distribution and washer leveling as relevant checks for vibration. If the code or severe vibration continues after correcting the load and checking the installation, consult the model manual and Samsung support.
When to get service
- The door or latch is visibly damaged.
- The code persists after you have followed the correct door or load-balance checks for your model.
- Your manual or local Samsung instructions do not match the washer or the displayed code.
Contact Samsung support or a qualified appliance technician in these situations. Do not buy or replace a latch based only on the DC code; the code’s meaning varies, and the exact fault needs to be confirmed for your washer.

Samsung’s guidance varies by model and region
The regional support pages illustrate why checking the exact product matters: US and Caribbean guidance describes DC as model-dependent; Australian guidance lists DC in both load-balance and main-door groupings; and Hong Kong’s UE/DC instructions apply to the front-load products covered there. Samsung India’s DE/DC advice is door-focused. A Samsung Laundry Combo manual defines DC as “Door is open” for that specific product. None of these examples establishes a universal meaning for every Samsung washer.
