If the image still has editable text layers, correct the wording there. If the text is baked into a flat image, repair the background beneath it and add the corrected words as a new text layer. Generative fill can help rebuild the background; it is not a dependable way to typeset exact spelling.
First, check whether the text is still editable
Open the original project file, if you have it, and look for a live text layer. That is usually the cleanest fix: change the wording without rebuilding the surrounding image. Adobe’s Firefly Services Edit Text endpoint works with PSD files that contain text layers; it does not promise to turn arbitrary flattened pixels back into editable text. Adobe’s Edit Text documentation also notes that fonts may need to be supplied and that some typographic attributes, including tracking, leading, and kerning, may not retain their original values.
If the file is flattened, use a two-part repair: remove the old lettering from the local background, then typeset the correct wording separately.

Repair a flattened image in two steps
1. Rebuild only the area behind the lettering
- Preserve the original. Duplicate the image or work in a copy so the repair can be undone.
- Select the lettering and a little surrounding area. In Photoshop, a partial selection uses Generative Fill. Adobe says Prompt to edit applies to the whole image, while Generative Fill is the option for a selected region. Including some nearby pixels gives the fill context for reconstructing the background. - Inspect the patch before proceeding. Check edges, gradients, texture, and repeated patterns. A generated fill may not recreate the original background exactly. If the repair is conspicuous, undo it or try a different localized cleanup rather than prompting the entire image.
In Adobe’s tutorial workflow, the generated fill sits above the unchanged original image, so the repair can remain nondestructive. Adobe’s tutorial, published December 17, 2025, describes the fill as being on a layer above the original.

2. Typeset the exact replacement
Add the corrected wording with a text tool on its own layer. Match the typeface, approximate size, weight, color, alignment, letter spacing, and baseline. If the original text followed perspective or a curve, account for that too. Zoom in to check edges and antialiasing, then inspect the result at the size where it will actually be seen. Keeping the new lettering separate makes it possible to adjust the typography without repeating the background repair.
Choose a route for the kind of image you have

When layer separation may help
Canva’s separate-image-layers developer tool can turn a flat image in a Canva account into a new design with text, objects, and background as separate elements. The source image is not changed. Canva says the workflow is best suited to flat graphics such as posters, banners, and social graphics; treat the separated result as a starting point to inspect, not proof that the original font, lettering, or background has been recovered exactly. Generative editing is designed to create or reconstruct image content, not to guarantee precise typography. Canva’s Magic Edit guidance explicitly advises avoiding text in prompts because it may not look right. Adobe’s Photoshop markup tools let users guide AI edits with text notes or brush marks, and Adobe directs users to choose a Gemini model for those tools.
