To improve file-transfer speed to or from your hosting account, first compare your usual connection with another device or network, then test a simple independent file. If the connection is sound but transfers remain slow, ask your provider whether a closer server location is available. A CDN can help deliver cached website content to visitors in other regions, but it is not a general fix for uploading files to your hosting account.
First, identify what is actually slow
File-transfer speed and webpage load speed are different problems. A slow upload or download points toward the local connection, the route to the server, or the hosting service. If only particular pages load slowly, the cause may instead be the site’s runtime, database, or external services.
Use a simple file transfer as a baseline rather than relying only on a page in a content management system. OVHcloud recommends testing an independent file to help distinguish hosting-related slowdown from site content or application behavior (OVHcloud: My website is slow. What to do?).
Compare devices and connections
Repeat the same transfer from your usual device and network, then from another device or access point if possible. If the second test is faster, the difference suggests a local device or network issue; if both are similarly slow, continue checking the route to the hosting server and the hosting-side factors. OVHcloud includes device and network comparisons among its troubleshooting steps.

- Keep the test file and transfer method consistent between attempts.
- Try a different internet connection, not just another device on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Compare a simple independent file with the transfer or page that first seemed slow.
Check the connection and distance to the server
Transfer speed depends partly on connection quality and the distance between you and the hosting server. Check your connection’s bandwidth and latency before assuming the hosting plan is the problem. If those look healthy but transfers remain slow, ask the provider where the server is located and whether moving the account to a nearer location is possible. The provider determines available locations and the migration process; a move is not guaranteed to improve speed in every case.
Check for high bandwidth and low latency before considering a server transfer. No controlled provider comparison or guaranteed speed increase is established by the available guidance.

Use a CDN for visitor delivery, not origin uploads
A content delivery network (CDN) or edge cache can serve cached website responses from locations closer to geographically distributed visitors. That can be useful when the problem is delivering cacheable website content around the world. It does not establish faster uploads from your computer to the hosting account’s origin server.
Cached or static responses are also different from dynamic pages: pages that need application execution, database queries, or external calls may still be delayed by that work. Kinsta describes edge delivery and application performance monitoring (APM) for PHP, database, and external-call delays in its features documentation, last updated March 9, 2026. SiteGround documents provider-specific features such as CDN, compression, reverse-proxy and static caching, and dynamic/database caching; its feature page was last updated August 14, 2025 (SiteGround: What does SiteGround do to speed up my website?). These descriptions are feature claims, not independent measurements of performance gains.

If only some pages are slow, investigate the site
When a simple file transfer is normal but one or a few pages are sluggish, focus on the application rather than raw file-transfer speed. Check PHP or other runtime behavior, database connectivity and query delays, and calls to external services. OVHcloud recommends PHP/runtime and database checks; Kinsta’s APM documentation also identifies PHP, database, and external-call delays as areas to investigate.
