If Minecraft Dungeons II will not download, stops updating, refuses to launch, or is unavailable after you bought or redeemed it, work through the failure stage in order. Start with the reversible checks: confirm the Switch is online, close running software, resume the download from your user settings, restart the console, and then check storage and updates. Only after those checks should you investigate account ownership or use a reinstall path.
Minecraft Dungeons II released for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 29, 2026. Nintendo’s Switch listing gives the game a 4.3 GB file size and states, “Requires initial content download.” That means a successful purchase or cartridge/software listing is not, by itself, proof that all playable content is already present on the console.

First identify the failure stage
The fix depends on what the console is actually failing to do. Match the symptom to one stage before changing settings or deleting anything.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Download: the game is queued, paused, or shows no meaningful progress.
- Update: an installed copy is downloading an update, but the progress bar appears stuck or the process repeatedly fails.
- Launch: the software is installed, but it remains on a loading screen, freezes, becomes unresponsive, or closes.
- Ownership or access: the download or launch is blocked after a purchase or redemption, or the console behaves as if the game is not owned.
Do not jump directly to a reinstall while a simple paused download or account mismatch could explain the symptom. The recovery sequence below is arranged from least disruptive to more involved.

Confirm the Switch edition, release, and prerequisites
Use the correct platform listing
Nintendo lists the game for Nintendo Switch, while Mojang’s launch announcement also names Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Steam. A purchase or code intended for another platform does not establish Nintendo Switch access. Check that the software shown in your Nintendo account or purchase history is the Nintendo Switch edition before troubleshooting the console itself.
Allow for the initial content download
The Nintendo listing’s wording, “Requires initial content download,” is important when the software appears present but cannot start. The displayed 4.3 GB game size is not a promise that exactly 4.3 GB of free space will be sufficient for every installation step. Leave additional free space beyond that figure so the download and installation process can complete.
Check storage before repeating a download
If the Switch’s internal storage is nearly full, remove or archive software you no longer need, or use a compatible Nintendo Switch microSD card with enough available capacity. Rechecking available space is especially useful when the progress indicator stops at the same point each time. Do not assume that a partially downloaded package has completed simply because an icon appears on the HOME menu.

Fix a Minecraft Dungeons II download that will not start or is stuck
Follow these steps in order. Nintendo’s stuck-download guidance specifically emphasizes an active internet connection, closing running software, resuming download progress, and restarting the console.
- Confirm the connection. Make sure the Switch has an active internet connection before attempting the download again. If the console has lost connectivity, reconnect it and wait for the HOME menu to show that the connection is available.
- Close running software. From the HOME menu, highlight any game or application that is open and close it. Nintendo notes that some software can pause downloads while it is being played, so leave the console at the HOME menu rather than launching another title during this check.
- Resume the queued download. Open the user page from HOME, choose User Settings, and select Update Download Progress. This is the Nintendo menu path for asking the console to continue download activity that has stopped or been paused.
- Give the console time to reconnect. If the progress indicator still does not move, restart the Switch. After it powers back on, allow it to reconnect to the internet before opening another game or application.
- Recheck free space. Compare available storage with the 4.3 GB listing and keep extra capacity available for the initial content download and installation process. If space is insufficient, make room before trying the download again.
- Observe the result before changing anything else. A moving progress indicator after the restart means the problem was at the connection, software-usage, or paused-download stage. Let that operation finish instead of interrupting it with another launch attempt.
If the download repeatedly returns to the same point
A repeatable stop at one point is a reason to check storage and the network state again rather than repeatedly selecting the title. Close running software, use Update Download Progress, restart once, and then allow the console to reconnect. If the same failure remains after those actions, move to Nintendo’s support path for downloaded software rather than deleting data blindly.
Fix an update that is stuck or repeatedly fails
An update problem is different from an initial download problem: the base software may already be installed, but the console cannot finish a newer package. Nintendo’s downloaded-software guidance covers long loading, lag, freezing, and non-response and directs players to check for available updates.

Install the update offered by the console
- Close Minecraft Dungeons II if it is running.
- From HOME, highlight the game and use the console’s option to check for an update.
- Allow the update to download with other software closed.
- If the process stops, use the same User Settings → Update Download Progress path, then restart the console if progress does not resume.
Do not treat a freeze, long loading time, or non-response as proof that the game itself is permanently damaged. Nintendo groups those symptoms with downloaded-software problems for which checking the current update is an early diagnostic step.

Separate an update failure from a content-download requirement
Because the Switch listing requires an initial content download, a newly installed copy may still be obtaining required content even when the title already has a HOME-menu icon. Let that operation complete before judging the game as an update failure. If the console explicitly identifies an update, follow the update path above; if it is still acquiring initial content, return to the download checks instead.
Fix a game that downloads but will not launch
When the software is present but will not open, use the least disruptive checks first. A launch failure can be caused by incomplete initial content, a pending update, or an access problem rather than by a crash inside gameplay.

Check completion and updates before relaunching
- Verify that the initial content download has finished and that the console is not still showing download activity.
- Check for an offered game update using the downloaded-software update path.
- Close the game completely, return to HOME, and restart the console if the title previously froze or became unresponsive.
- After the restart, wait for the internet connection to return before opening the game again.
These actions address the symptoms Nintendo identifies for downloaded software: long loading, lag, freezing, and non-response. If the title still refuses to launch after the software is complete, updated, and the console has been restarted, treat the issue as an access or support case rather than repeating the same launch attempt.
When an online transition triggers the failure
Mojang’s October 7, 2026 notice for version 1.1.2.0 lists crash fixes, including crashes during gameplay and when exiting an online game. That information is relevant only if the crash occurs in one of those situations; it does not establish that every Switch launch problem is fixed by that version or that the Switch rollout had occurred.

Fix “I bought or redeemed it, but I cannot access it”
Minecraft Help identifies account mismatch as a common cause of access failures. The account that is currently signed in must be checked against the account used for the purchase or redemption.

- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- Identify the transaction account. Determine which Nintendo account completed the purchase or which account was used when the code was redeemed.
- Check the active Nintendo account. On the Switch, verify that the user profile you are using is linked to that same Nintendo account. A different local user can make a legitimate purchase appear unavailable.
- Check the linked Microsoft account when prompted. If the game or Minecraft services request Microsoft account access, confirm that you are using the Microsoft account associated with the intended player profile, not a different account saved on the console or browser.
- Use the Nintendo Switch-specific instructions. Minecraft Help provides Nintendo Switch guidance for redemption and reinstall situations. Follow that platform-specific path after confirming the account identities rather than redeeming the same code again.
- Escalate with account details if access remains blocked. Keep the purchase or redemption information and the Nintendo user identity available when contacting support. Do not disclose a full code publicly.
An account mismatch is an ownership problem, not a storage problem. Freeing space or repeatedly restarting the console will not transfer a purchase between accounts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the version 1.1.2.0 hotfix does—and does not—confirm
Minecraft Feedback’s October 7, 2026 notice for version 1.1.2.0 reports several crash fixes, including crashes during gameplay and while exiting an online game. The notice says rollout began on Steam and would reach Windows and Xbox X|S soon. It does not give a Nintendo Switch rollout date.
Therefore, do not use that notice as proof that the Switch version has received 1.1.2.0. On Switch, rely on the update offered by the console itself. If no update is offered, the notice alone cannot establish that a Switch package is available or explain a download, ownership, or initial-launch failure.
Choose the safest recovery action
This table compares the practical recovery options by failure stage, data risk, account requirements, storage impact, and reversibility. “Not stated” means the available official guidance does not establish a value; it is safer than assuming a requirement.
| Action | Best failure stage | Save-data risk | Account or subscription requirement | Storage impact | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Confirm connection and close software | Download or update paused | Does not target save data | Active internet connection; subscription requirement not stated | No new installation action | Yes |
| User Settings → Update Download Progress | Download or update stalled | Does not target save data | Internet connection; subscription requirement not stated | Uses the existing queued data | Yes |
| Restart the console | Stalled download, freeze, or non-response | Does not delete saved data | Internet connection needed again after restart | No additional capacity by itself | Yes |
| Check for and install the offered update | Update, long loading, lag, freezing, or non-response | Does not target save data | Account requirement not stated; internet access needed to obtain an update | Requires room for the update package | Not generally reversible through the ordinary update path |
| Use Nintendo Switch-specific reinstall instructions | Persistent installation or access failure after account verification | Save-data effect is not established here; read every console prompt | Correct Nintendo/Microsoft account identity may be required; subscription requirement not stated | Requires enough free space to download the software again | Not stated; use only after lower-risk steps |
| Contact Nintendo or Minecraft support | Failure remains after the relevant checks | Support can advise before a destructive action | Have the relevant account and transaction information ready | Depends on the instructed remedy | Depends on the remedy |
When to contact support
Use Nintendo’s downloaded-software support route when the connection is active, running software is closed, download progress has been resumed, the console has been restarted, and the problem still persists. The same escalation is appropriate when an update continues to fail after the console’s update check.
Use Minecraft Help’s Nintendo Switch-specific account or reinstall guidance when the title was purchased or redeemed but is unavailable to the current user. Tell support which stage fails—download, update, launch, or ownership—and describe the exact message or behavior. This distinction prevents an account case from being handled as a storage case or a stalled download from being treated as a crash.
Quick Recap
Quick symptom-to-action map
- Nothing starts downloading: confirm internet access, close running software, resume progress from User Settings → Update Download Progress, then restart.
- The progress bar pauses: leave other software closed, check available space beyond the listed 4.3 GB, resume progress, and allow the console to reconnect after a restart.
- An installed copy freezes or will not respond: close it, check for an offered update, restart, and retry only after the connection returns.
- The game says it is unavailable after purchase or redemption: verify the Nintendo and, where requested, Microsoft account identities before using redemption or reinstall instructions.
- You are waiting for hotfix 1.1.2.0: check what the Switch itself offers; the October 7 notice does not confirm a Switch rollout date.
