Start by identifying whether the problem is with one Wi-Fi network, the iPhone itself, or cellular service. Check the connection and restart before resetting network settings: that reset does not erase photos, messages, or apps, but it removes saved network configurations, including Wi-Fi passwords. Apple advises: “Reset network settings only if other solutions fail.”

First identify what is failing

Notice whether the issue affects only your iPhone, every device on one Wi-Fi network, or cellular service. That distinction points to the right next step and support contact.

  • One Wi-Fi network: Check whether other devices can use it. If they cannot, the router, network, or internet provider may be responsible.
  • Your iPhone on multiple Wi-Fi networks: Try connecting somewhere else. If it cannot connect to any Wi-Fi network, Apple recommends contacting Apple Support.
  • Cellular service: If the status shows “SOS,” “No Service,” or “Searching,” follow the cellular steps below and contact your carrier if service does not return.

Apple’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting steps are in If you can’t connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPad.

Try these Wi-Fi fixes before resetting

Check Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode

  1. Open Settings and make sure Wi-Fi is on. Tap the network you want to join.
  2. Confirm Airplane Mode is off.
  3. If the Wi-Fi control is dimmed, restart your iPhone and check again.

If the iPhone says “No Internet Connection” while connected to Wi-Fi, the phone may have joined the network successfully even though the network itself has no internet access. Check other devices before treating it as an iPhone radio problem.

Apple iPhone 14, 128GB, Midnight - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

Compare devices and locations

Try another device on the same Wi-Fi. If that device also cannot get online, contact the internet service provider (ISP) or the network administrator. Then try the iPhone on a different Wi-Fi network. If it fails to connect anywhere, contact Apple.

Check a network-specific problem

If other devices also have trouble on the affected network, check that the router is powered on and that the iPhone is within range. If the router offers another supported frequency, try it. Restart the router and modem, and check for router firmware updates. If you do not manage the network, ask its administrator or contact the ISP.

Test VPN or security software

A VPN or security app can affect connectivity, but its presence alone does not prove it is the cause. Apple advises uninstalling the software, restarting the iPhone, and testing Wi-Fi. If you need the software or cannot remove a managed configuration, contact its provider or your VPN administrator.

What Reset Network Settings changes

Reset Network Settings removes saved network configurations, so you will need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and enter passwords again. It also removes previously used VPN settings that were not installed through a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM). Apple’s iPhone User Guide notes that the iPhone’s device name may revert to “iPhone,” manually trusted certificates may become untrusted, and cellular data roaming may be turned off. Wi-Fi turns off and back on during the reset, disconnecting the phone from its current network.

The reset does not erase personal content or media. It is different from Reset All Settings, which changes a broader set of settings, including privacy, location, keyboard, and Apple Pay settings. It is also different from Erase All Content and Settings, which removes content. Apple explains these options in About Reset All Settings and Erase All Content and Settings.
