To take a screenshot on a Samsung Galaxy S23, press the Side button and Volume Down at the same time, then release. For a page that continues below the screen, tap Scroll capture in the screenshot toolbar. You can also enable palm swipe as an alternative, then find saved captures in Gallery.
Take a standard screenshot with the buttons
- Display the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side button and Volume Down simultaneously, then release. Samsung calls this “Button capture” in the Galaxy S23 series user manual.
- Open Gallery to view the screenshot.
Use palm swipe instead
The S23 also supports taking a screenshot by swiping the edge of your hand left or right across the screen. If the gesture is disabled, open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures and turn on Palm swipe to capture. Samsung’s US motions and gestures guide notes that palm swipe is unavailable while the keyboard is displayed. Menu labels and feature availability can vary by software version and model.
Capture a long page with Scroll capture
- Take a screenshot using the buttons or palm swipe.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture. The screen scrolls down and adds more of the page to the capture.
- Tap the control again as needed to continue capturing, then use the toolbar to finish or work with the screenshot.
The option appears when content extends beyond one screen, but some apps and websites may not support it. See Samsung Canada’s Galaxy screenshot guidance for this limitation.
Edit, tag, share, and find screenshots
The capture toolbar offers options to write or draw on a screenshot, crop it, add tags, and share it. To retrieve a saved capture later, open Gallery; Samsung support also identifies the Screenshots album as a place to look.

When screenshot controls do not work
Palm swipe does nothing
- Check that Palm swipe to capture is enabled at Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Hide the keyboard before trying the gesture.
- If the setting is missing or behaves differently, menu wording and availability may differ with the device model or software version.
Scroll capture is missing
Check whether the content continues below the visible screen. If it does and the option still does not appear, the app or website may not support scroll capture.
An app blocks screenshots
Some apps and screens block captures for security or privacy reasons. Samsung’s screenshot support guidance names banking apps as an example. Treat the block as an app restriction rather than trying to bypass it.
