If your TV says the Wi-Fi password is incorrect, first confirm it is joining the right network and re-enter the current password exactly as used on a connected phone or computer. Then test another device on that Wi-Fi. If other devices fail too, check the router or internet service; if they connect, troubleshoot the TV’s saved settings, signal, and connection status.
1. Check the network name and current password
Make sure the TV is selecting the same Wi-Fi network (SSID) used by your working devices. A nearby network with a similar name may belong to a different router or guest network, which would require a different password.
Re-enter the password currently used by a phone or computer connected to that network. Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive, and characters entered with a TV remote can be easy to mistake. If the TV offers a show-password control, use it to check the entry before submitting. 2. Find out whether the problem affects other devices
Try connecting a phone, tablet, or laptop to the same Wi-Fi network. This quick check separates a TV-specific problem from one affecting the whole network.
- Other devices also fail: Check the router and network configuration, then contact your internet provider if the connection or service appears to be down. LG recommends comparing another device when diagnosing a TV connection problem.
- Other devices connect: Focus on the TV’s selected network, saved network settings, signal where the TV is located, and the TV’s own connection status.
3. Restart the TV and network equipment
Restart the TV using its normal restart or power-cycle procedure. Restart the router and modem as well, then wait for the network equipment to come back online before trying the TV again. Roku’s connection guidance recommends restarting the player or TV and network equipment before reconnecting.

If the TV provides an option to forget or reset its saved network, use it only when the model supports it and then reconnect with the confirmed current password. Avoid starting with a factory reset: it is more disruptive, can erase other settings, and is best treated as a later step guided by the manufacturer. Samsung recommends checking network status and reserves reset guidance for particular continuing errors.

4. If the TV cannot see the Wi-Fi network
Rescan for available networks in the TV’s network settings. Check that Wi-Fi is enabled on the router, and consider whether distance or walls and other obstacles may be weakening the signal. For a weak-signal error, Roku recommends moving the device nearer the router. If the network name still does not appear, LG advises contacting its support for assistance.

Do not assume a particular Wi-Fi band or router security mode is supported by every TV. If router settings changed recently, check the TV’s model-specific wireless specifications and the router documentation before changing the band or security configuration. The right settings depend on both devices.
5. Check whether Wi-Fi joined but internet access failed
Joining the wireless network and reaching the internet are separate stages. If the TV reports that Wi-Fi is connected but apps cannot get online, check the TV’s network status and whether other devices can access the internet. That points toward router internet access, the service provider, or another connection issue—not necessarily a wrong password.

Use the TV’s connection or network status test when available. Roku distinguishes wrong-password errors from weak-signal and other connection errors, while Samsung also recommends running a network status test. Follow the error shown rather than repeatedly changing a password that other devices are using successfully.
6. Use Ethernet only as a wired workaround
If the TV has an Ethernet port, connecting it to the router by Ethernet can provide a wired connection; Roku notes that wired networking can be more stable for supported players and TVs. Check the TV’s ports and whether a cable can reach before buying one. Ethernet may get the TV online, but it does not fix Wi-Fi authentication or the incorrect-password message.
