If a controller moves an on-screen pointer, check whether it is in a mouse or alternate input mode. If clicks happen after the pointer stops, check Android’s Autoclick accessibility setting. Then review the controller’s Android settings and compare the behavior in another app to narrow down the cause.
First, identify when the pointer moves or clicks
Notice whether a particular stick or button moves the pointer, whether a click happens only after the pointer pauses, and whether the behavior occurs outside one game. Also note whether the controller connects by Bluetooth or cable. These clues help you choose the relevant checks; they do not confirm a cause on their own.
Check Android’s Autoclick setting for delayed clicks
Android’s Autoclick (dwell timing) feature can automatically take an action when a mouse pointer stops moving for a selected time. If clicks occur after a pause while Android is showing a pointer, turn the feature off temporarily to test whether it explains the symptom.
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Cursor and touchpad accessibility > Autoclick (dwell timing).
- Turn off Use autoclick, then check whether the delayed clicks stop.
Google documents this feature for mouse use, so it is a relevant check when a pointer is present—not proof that Autoclick causes every controller-generated click. Google notes that some steps apply only to Android 11.0 and up, and menu labels can differ by manufacturer. See Google’s Autoclick (dwell timing) instructions.

Review the controller connection and Android settings
Disconnect and reconnect the controller, then check its settings in Android. Google lists different paths for wired and wireless controllers:
- Wired controller: Settings > System > Game controllers.
- Wireless controller: Settings > Connected devices > [controller] > Game Controller settings.
Depending on the device, these settings may let you change button assignments or swap joysticks. Available controls and menu names vary. Google also documents connection by Bluetooth or by a compatible wired cable; the cable must fit the controller and phone, and connecting by cable is a way to compare behavior, not an established fix for pointer movement. Check whether the controller is in mouse mode
Some controllers intentionally let a joystick control an on-screen mouse. Look for a mouse/game mode switch or check the manual for your exact model. Do not assume a particular button combination applies to every controller.
For example, one controller manual says to press M to switch to mouse function, use the joystick to move the pointer, and use Select as the left/confirm key. It says to press M again to switch back. Those directions are specific to the controller covered by that manual, not a universal Android shortcut. See the controller manual.

Compare another app before treating it as a phone-wide problem
If the pointer or clicks appear only in one game, compare the behavior in Android settings or another game. Android’s input compatibility can vary by app and form factor: some unhandled gamepad and TV-controller events may be re-emitted as keyboard events, and PC-like Android environments can translate mouse clicks into touch events. This can help explain why an input behaves differently in different contexts, but it does not identify a particular game or guarantee a fix.
