A virtual background that looks backwards in your preview is often just mirrored self-view: the app may show your camera image like a reflection, even when other people see it normally. First check whether the reversal appears to you alone before changing the background image.
Why does my virtual background look backwards?
Some video apps mirror your self-view so it resembles looking in a mirror. That can make text, logos, or the background appear reversed to you without showing that way to meeting participants. Microsoft says the Teams mirror setting changes only your view, and Webex says its mirror view is not broadcast to others. Google Meet also notes that the background in self-view can appear mirrored or inverted.
Background selection and self-view orientation are separate things. Choosing a different background does not necessarily change the way your preview is mirrored.

- Ask another participant whether the text or logo looks reversed on their screen, or check a recording or receiving device if available.
- If the background appears reversed only in your own preview, treat it as a self-view setting rather than immediately editing the image file.
- If others also see the image backwards, check whether the selected source image itself is flipped before replacing or editing it.
This check matters especially when the background contains words, a company logo, or other directional details: permanently flipping the source image before confirming what the audience sees could make their view worse.

How to change the mirror view in Microsoft Teams
In Teams desktop, open Settings > Devices and toggle Mirror my video. Microsoft says changing this setting affects only your view. The background and video-effects controls are separate, so use those controls to select or change a background rather than expecting the mirror setting to do so.
Teams menu labels and feature availability can vary by client and version. If the wording differs, look in the current app’s Settings or Devices area for the video mirror control.

What to check in Google Meet and Webex
Google Meet
Google’s help page confirms that the background in your self-view may appear mirrored or inverted. That explanation does not establish a specific toggle or correction, so do not assume that a setting available in another app exists in Meet. Check the current help instructions for the client you use.

Webex says self-view is reversed by default, like a reflection, and that mirror view applies to your self-view rather than the video other participants receive. Its help article provides instructions for turning off mirror view; follow the directions for your current client.

No. A physical green screen can improve how a person appears against a virtual background in Teams, but it is not a fix for self-view mirroring or reversed text. Use it for background segmentation or appearance, not orientation.
