Yes—but the answer depends on your Versa model. Versa 3 and Versa 4 can let you speak and listen through the watch after you set up on-wrist calls. On other Versa models, you may be able to accept or reject an incoming-call notification, but accepting it answers the call on your nearby phone rather than routing the conversation through the watch.
First, distinguish answering from talking through the watch
“Answering a call” can mean two different things: accepting the call from a watch notification, or using the watch’s own microphone and speaker for the conversation. Google Health documents on-wrist calls for Fitbit Versa 3 and Versa 4, which have built-in microphones and speakers. For other Versa models, the watch can show an incoming-call notification and offer accept or reject controls; accepting does not establish that the conversation will use the watch’s audio.
| Versa model or situation | What happens when you accept | Audio route |
|---|---|---|
| Versa model other than Versa 3 or Versa 4 | Versa-series devices can accept or reject an incoming-call notification. | The call is answered on the nearby phone; on-wrist conversation is not documented for these models. |
| Versa 3 | Can accept a call and, after on-wrist-call setup, take the call from the wrist. | Watch microphone and speaker. |
| Versa 4 | Can accept a call and, after on-wrist-call setup, take the call from the wrist. | Watch microphone and speaker. |
To check your model, look at the device name in the Fitbit or Google Health app, or in the watch’s device settings. Do not assume that a watch labeled only “Versa” supports wrist-based conversation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSet up on-wrist calls on Versa 3 or Versa 4
Google Health’s current instructions direct users who did not configure the feature while connecting their account to start setup in the Google Home app. Follow the prompts for your phone and approve the requested Bluetooth pairing and permissions. Labels or screens can change, so follow the current in-app flow if they differ from these directions.

On iPhone, the setup flow includes opening the phone’s Bluetooth settings, selecting the Fitbit device’s Calls or Controls pairing, confirming that the number shown on the phone matches the one on the watch, and returning to the app to finish.
On Android, complete the app’s prompts and the Bluetooth pairing flow if requested. For Versa 3, if the pairing prompt does not appear, Google Health’s instructions say to open Settings > Vibration & Audio > On-wrist calls on the watch, select the Versa 3 Controls/Calls entry, and pair that entry in the phone’s Bluetooth settings. The feature may require the latest watch firmware.
Answer and talk through the watch
- Keep the paired phone nearby and the Google Health app running in the background.
- When a call arrives, tap the green phone icon on the supported watch.
- Speak toward the watch and listen through its speaker.
If you answer the call on the phone, Google Health says you cannot then switch that call to the watch. Choose the watch when accepting if you want to use its microphone and speaker.
Why a Versa may answer on the phone instead
The most common explanation is that accepting the notification and carrying the conversation through the watch are separate capabilities. On a Versa model without documented on-wrist calls, the watch is providing call controls while the phone handles the audio. On Versa 3 or Versa 4, on-wrist calling also depends on completing the separate setup and maintaining the phone connection.

For call notifications to appear, enable phone-call notifications for the Fitbit device. Google Health says the watch can vibrate and show the caller’s name or number; Versa-series watches can accept or reject using the green or red phone icon.

If a Versa 3 or Versa 4 does not connect for wrist-based calls, work through these checks:
- Update the Google Health app and the Fitbit device.
- Keep the phone within 30 feet (10 meters) and leave the app running in the background. Google Health gives this as the recommended proximity for the feature.
- Confirm that phone-call notifications are enabled.
- Turn the phone’s Bluetooth off and back on, then restart the Fitbit.
- If the connection still fails, remove the Fitbit’s Calls or Controls entry from the phone’s Bluetooth device list, then set up on-wrist calls again.
The watch’s separate Calls or Controls Bluetooth entry may say “Not Connected” when no call is active and reconnect automatically when a call arrives. Google Health also notes that on-wrist calling requires more frequent charging.
