Choose Fitbit Edge if you want a tracker-focused wearable with stated support for many Android phones and iPhones, built-in GPS, and a manufacturer-estimated battery life of up to seven days. Choose an Apple Watch if you use Apple’s health and fitness ecosystem and want its broader mix of smartwatch, workout, health, and safety features. Neither is a universal winner: the right choice depends on your phone, preferred features, and the specific Apple Watch model.
At a glance: Fitbit Edge vs. Apple Watch
| What matters | Fitbit Edge | Apple Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Phone and setup | Google says it works with most phones running Android 11 or later and iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later. Setup requires a Google Account, the Google Health app, an internet connection, and a smartphone. Some features require Google Health Premium. Google Store FAQ | Apple’s pages describe features across the Apple Watch family, but do not establish setup compatibility for every model. Check compatibility for the particular model and your phone before buying. |
| Health features | Heart-rate and sleep tracking, skin temperature, SpO2, ECG, AFib detection, and heart-rate notifications are among the listed features. Availability can vary by region, device, app, or membership. | Apple describes heart-related notifications, Vitals metrics, cycle tracking, and other health features. Availability depends on the model and circumstances. |
| Fitness features | Built-in GPS, automatic activity recognition, heart-rate zones, an altimeter, and dozens of workout modes. Google’s official pages give different workout-mode counts. | Activity rings, workout tracking, heart-rate zones, training load, power, elevation, and VO₂ max are among Apple’s described features. |
| Battery | Google estimates up to seven days per charge; actual life may be lower and depends on use. | The Apple pages cited here do not provide a directly comparable battery figure for a specific model. |
| Price and availability | Google announced a $179.99 retail price and planned retail availability on October 27, 2026. Check the Store listing for current price and availability. | Price depends on the Apple Watch model and configuration; the cited Apple pages do not establish a directly comparable price. |
The comparison is between a specific tracker and a product family. Apple Watch models differ, and a feature listed for one model should not be assumed to exist on every model. Google’s feature pages also include regional and membership qualifications.
Which one fits your phone and setup?
Fitbit Edge works across supported Android phones and iPhones
Google lists compatibility with most Android phones running Android 11 or later and iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later. You also need a smartphone to pair it, a Google Account, the Google Health app, and an internet connection. The compatibility statement does not mean every feature behaves identically on Android and iPhone, or that every feature is available in every region. Check Google’s Fitbit Edge specifications and purchase FAQ for the current requirements.

Apple describes health and fitness capabilities across its Watch family, rather than documenting model-by-model setup compatibility on the cited pages. If you are considering an Apple Watch, verify that the model works with your iPhone and supports the features you want. If you use Android, do not assume Apple Watch is a compatible alternative: confirm setup requirements with Apple for the exact model before purchase.

How do their health-tracking features differ?
Fitbit Edge emphasizes continuous tracking and health insights
Google lists 24/7 heart-rate tracking, resting heart rate, sleep tracking, skin temperature, blood oxygen (SpO2), ECG, AFib detection, irregular heart-rate notifications, and high- or low-heart-rate notifications. Its announcement also describes blood-pressure and insulin-resistance trends. Those trends are wellness information, not real-time clinical readings, diagnoses, or tools for changing medication or treatment. Google says availability varies; review its announcement and health-feature qualifications before relying on a particular function.
Apple Watch combines notifications, Vitals, and health records
Apple describes notifications for unusually high or low heart rates and irregular rhythms, along with the Vitals app, which can show measures including heart-rate variability (HRV), heart rate, respiratory rate, and wrist temperature. Apple Health also describes cycle tracking and retrospective ovulation estimates for supported devices and circumstances. These are product features, not diagnoses; availability depends on the Watch model, region, and other conditions. See Apple’s pages on Apple Watch health features and Apple Health.

Neither feature list establishes clinical superiority
Manufacturer descriptions show what each product says it can do; they do not establish that one is more accurate than the other in a controlled head-to-head comparison. Treat wearable readings as informational, and consult a qualified clinician about symptoms, diagnosis, or treatment decisions.
Which is better for workouts and everyday activity?
Fitbit Edge: GPS and a tracker-oriented workout toolkit
Google lists built-in GPS, automatic activity recognition, heart-rate zones, and an altimeter. Its specification page lists 40+ exercise modes, while its launch announcement says more than 50; the clearest summary is that Edge offers dozens of modes, rather than treating those different counts as interchangeable. Google also claims up to 40% improved GPS tracking accuracy versus previous generations. That is a company comparison, not an independent head-to-head test against Apple Watch.

- Sleep better: Automatic sleep tracking, a daily detailed Sleep Score, smart wake vibrating alarm, and sleep mode help you improve your sleep quality[3]
Apple Watch: workouts tied into Activity and Fitness
Apple describes Activity rings and workout metrics including heart-rate zones, training load, power, elevation, and VO₂ max. The Apple Health page says users can review trends in the Fitness app and describes VO₂ max as a measure of cardiovascular fitness. The exact metrics available depend on the Watch model and supported conditions.
For either device, prioritize the specific workout information you will use. A longer feature list is not automatically more useful if you mainly want steps, sleep, and basic exercise tracking—or if a particular metric is unavailable on the model you can buy.

How do battery life, charging, water resistance, and repair compare?
Fitbit Edge’s battery estimate and durability details
Google advertises up to seven days of battery life and says five minutes of charging can provide up to one day of use when the battery is low. The seven-day figure is a manufacturer estimate based on Google’s 2026 testing in California using preproduction hardware and software, default settings, and a median user profile; Google says actual battery life may be lower. It is not a guarantee for every wearer or usage pattern.

Google lists water resistance up to 50 meters, 5 ATM, and IP68. Its announcement calls Edge its first repairable fitness tracker and describes a replaceable battery. Replaceability is a useful repair feature, but by itself does not establish longer real-world service life.

Apple Watch battery life must be checked by model
The Apple pages cited here do not give a directly comparable battery figure for a particular Watch. Battery expectations vary by model and use, so consult the official specification page for the exact version you are considering rather than comparing Edge’s estimate with a family-wide assumption.
What do they cost, and what is included?
Google lists Fitbit Edge at $179.99 and a Stephen Curry Special Edition at $219.99. Google announced preorder availability and planned retail shelves for October 27, 2026; because that date is still upcoming as of October 13, 2026, confirm the current preorder, release, and price details on the Google Store listing.
Google says an Edge purchase includes three months of Google Health Premium. Some features require a separately sold subscription, and the included period is a launch offer rather than a recurring entitlement. The sources cited here do not establish total ownership costs or a comparable Apple service cost; check the current terms for any services you expect to use.
