Fishing Inc uses a straightforward progression loop: travel to a pond, catch fish through the active clicking challenge, sell the trip’s haul for cash, then invest that cash in skills and equipment. New locations expose different fish, while stronger upgrades let you handle larger, tougher and more exotic species. The long-term objective is the Fish Log, including Legendary catches.
The official listings do not publish a complete pond list, unlock-level table, rarity percentages or upgrade-cost chart. Those values can change with updates, so use the current in-game map and upgrade screens for exact requirements rather than relying on an unverified number.
How progression works in Fishing Inc
Fishing Inc, developed by BigBonk Studio, is an incremental fishing game released on Steam on April 14, 2026. Its store descriptions for Steam and Android present progression as a repeating loop rather than a separate campaign and end-game mode.

- Complete the active fishing interaction. Steam describes clicking until a target is reached before the fish is lost.
- Earn cash from the trip. Catches generate the money used for progression.
- Buy skills and equipment. Upgrades are intended to help you land bigger, tougher and more exotic fish.
- Record discoveries in the Fish Log. Species completion and Legendary catches provide the collection goal that continues after ordinary upgrades are no longer the only objective.
Because each step feeds the next, a failed catch is not merely lost collection progress: it also delays the cash needed for the next upgrade. Conversely, an upgrade that lets you land a difficult fish can improve both immediate income and Fish Log progress.

Fishing spots: what unlocks and what remains unknown
Locations determine the available fish
Steam and Google Play both describe multiple fishing locations or ponds. The practical implication is that a pond is more than scenery: it determines which species can appear. A fish that is absent from your current roster cannot be forced to appear by repeatedly fishing the same water; you need access to the location where that species is offered.
There is no published universal unlock chart
The official store pages do not list every pond by name, state the level or cash requirement for each one, or provide per-spot drop rates. As a result, a guide that gives a fixed sequence such as “unlock Pond B at level 12” is not supported by the published specifications. The current game UI is the authoritative place to check a locked spot’s requirement.
How to read a locked spot in practice
- Open the travel, map or fishing-location screen in your current build.
- Select the locked pond to reveal the requirement shown by the game. It may be tied to your present progression, a cash cost or another in-game condition; do not assume that a requirement from an older version still applies.
- Note the fish silhouettes or roster information, if displayed. This tells you whether the destination addresses a missing Fish Log entry or simply offers a higher difficulty.
- Return to the most productive available pond and farm the upgrades or cash needed for that requirement.
When a new location opens, treat it as a new pool of possible species rather than an automatic replacement for the previous pond. Earlier spots can remain useful for completing entries, earning dependable cash or practicing the catch interaction at a lower difficulty.
The active catch interaction and why upgrades matter
Clicking is the gate between a fish and its payout
Steam’s description says the player clicks until reaching a target before losing the fish. The listing does not specify a universal click count, timing window or target value for every species. Difficulty therefore has to be judged from the live interaction: if a fish repeatedly escapes before you reach its target, your current setup is not yet reliable for that species.
Use failures as a diagnostic
- You are close to the target but miss narrowly: look for an upgrade that improves the relevant skill or equipment statistic, then try the same species again.
- You fail early or consistently: move to an easier available fish or pond while saving for a more substantial upgrade. Spending every dollar on a marginal improvement can leave you unable to reach the next meaningful threshold.
- You can catch the fish but the trip feels slow: prioritize upgrades that reduce friction in the repeated interaction, provided they do not prevent you from meeting the requirements for a new location.
These are decision rules, not hidden numerical formulas. The official descriptions establish that skills and equipment help with tougher catches, but they do not publish the exact effect of each named upgrade.

Cash, skills and equipment: a priority framework
Early game: fix the current bottleneck
At the start, buy the skill or equipment improvement that addresses the fish you are actually failing to catch. The game’s stated purpose for upgrades is to let you take on tougher species and land bigger fish. An upgrade that immediately changes a failed catch into a successful one generally has more value than an upgrade aimed at a distant, unavailable pond.
- Fish the best currently reliable pond.
- Identify the hardest fish you can nearly land, rather than the rarest fish mentioned in the collection screen.
- Compare the available skill and equipment descriptions in the upgrade tab.
- Purchase the option whose stated benefit matches that failure.
- Test the same fish again before buying a second upgrade. This confirms whether the bottleneck was addressed.
Mid-progression: balance access and consistency
Once you can catch the common species in a pond, divide spending between two goals: meeting the next location requirement and making current catches dependable. A new pond is valuable only if your equipment can handle at least some of its roster. Conversely, perfecting an old pond forever can delay access to species needed for the Fish Log.

Do not infer an upgrade’s exact mathematics
No canonical source publishes a complete cost table, named-stat formula or percentage increase for every skill and equipment item. Use the wording and preview values shown in your version of the upgrade screen. If an online guide gives a precise number without identifying the game version, treat it as potentially outdated rather than a guaranteed rule.
Rarity: normal progression versus post-story selection
Rare catches are part of the normal climb
Google Play describes increasingly rare catches and Legendary fish as part of the game’s progression. In ordinary play, better locations and stronger skills or equipment are the practical route toward species that are larger, tougher or less common.
Rarity Selection is an end-game feature
Developer patch notes describe a post-story Rarity Selection feature. After completing the main story, players can select which rarities they want to catch, making it easier to target missing entries while finishing the Fish Log. This is not described as an early-game shortcut; it is a collection tool unlocked after the main story.

The same patch notes add an auto-click toggle and change the fish-tracker entries so they are ordered by likely catch position. These additions reduce the amount of manual sorting and repeated clicking involved in end-game completion, but they do not replace the need to unlock locations or buy the upgrades required to land difficult fish.
What the community says about rarity adjustments
A Steam Community discussion includes a player question about fish XP and rarity upgrades, followed by a reply stating that the Upgrades tab allows rarity adjustment after the game is beaten. This is player testimony, not a formal specification. Use the official patch-note wording and the controls visible in your own post-story Upgrades tab as the definitive reference. The discussion does not establish a universal XP system, percentages or costs.
Legendary fish and completing the Fish Log
Make the log your checklist
The Fish Log turns progression into a collection task. Record which species and rarity entries are missing, then choose a pond and upgrade plan that can produce those entries. A general “fish everywhere” approach can earn cash, but it gives you no way to tell whether a trip advances the collection.
- Open the Fish Log and identify a missing species, rarity or Legendary entry.
- Check which unlocked pond can produce that fish. If the game does not reveal the location, inspect the roster, silhouettes or tracker information rather than assuming every pond shares the same pool.
- Compare the fish’s difficulty with your recent catch results.
- Buy the upgrade that addresses the observed failure, then repeat the attempt.
- After the main story, use Rarity Selection to focus attempts on the rarity category that still has gaps.
Legendary does not mean every pond can produce it
The official descriptions identify Legendary catches as a Fish Log objective, but they do not publish a Legendary table, location list or probability. Do not treat a long streak without a Legendary as proof that the feature is broken; the missing condition may be a different pond, rarity setting or upgrade requirement. Verify the current tracker and location information in-game before changing your entire progression plan.
End-game workflow: finish the collection efficiently
1. Complete the main story first
Rarity Selection is explicitly described as a post-story feature. Before that point, use ordinary pond progression and upgrades to unlock access and build a broad collection.

2. Sort the remaining entries
The updated fish tracker orders entries by likely catch position. Start with entries near the front of the tracker that you can realistically target, then work toward harder or rarer gaps. The ordering is a convenience feature, not a published guarantee of probability.
3. Select the needed rarity
After the story, choose the rarity category that matches your missing log entries. If the option is absent, confirm that the story is fully complete and that the game has installed the update that introduced the feature.
4. Use auto-click deliberately
The patch notes describe an auto-click toggle. Enable it when you want to reduce repetitive input during routine attempts, but monitor whether the fish still requires an upgrade or a different target. Automation can reduce friction; it cannot compensate for insufficient catch capability.
5. Keep a cash reserve
Do not spend the entire balance immediately after a successful catch. Holding enough cash for the next relevant skill or equipment purchase lets you respond when a rare entry exposes a new difficulty wall.

“How do fishing spots unlock?”
New spots are location-based progression gates, but the official listings do not provide a universal level or price table. Select the locked spot in your current game to see its requirement, then farm reliable catches and purchase the upgrades or cash amount shown there.

“What do rarity upgrades do?”
The documented post-story system lets you select which rarities you want to catch. A community reply also reports rarity adjustment in the Upgrades tab after beating the game, but that report is not a formal specification. Exact effects, costs and percentages are not published.
“How do I catch Legendary fish?”
Use the Fish Log to identify the missing Legendary entry, travel to the pond associated with that species, and improve the skill or equipment responsible for your failed attempts. After the story, select the relevant rarity. No official source gives a guaranteed drop rate or a single universal Legendary location.
“Which upgrade should I buy first?”
Buy the upgrade that addresses the fish you are currently failing to land, unless a location requirement is close enough that saving for it will open a needed species pool. The game does not publish a one-size-fits-all best-upgrade order.
“Why can’t I find a fish mentioned by another player?”
Check whether you are fishing the same pond, using the same game version and pursuing the same rarity. Locations have different rosters, and the official pages do not promise that every fish appears in every area. Patch changes can also alter the tracker or end-game controls.

These boundaries matter because Fishing Inc is an updating game. The Steam listing establishes the April 14, 2026 release date, while the Android listing and developer patch notes describe later features. If your menus differ from a guide, trust the labels and requirements in your installed version, especially for rarity controls and tracker behavior.
