In the current Steam version of Fishing Inc, offline progress is protected from being silently replaced by Steam Cloud data. Prestige starts a new series and keeps your binder, while the official notes do not publish a complete list of currencies or every upgrade that survives. If upgrades or money disappear, treat the problem as a save-state conflict first.

Fishing Inc is a cozy incremental fishing game from BigBonk Studio on Steam. Its core loop is straightforward: catch fish, travel among ponds, fill a Fish Log, and spend earnings on upgrades. The questions below concern the Steam PC game, not similarly named mobile products.
The most important distinction is between normal offline play, a deliberate Prestige reset, and an accidental save mismatch. They can all look like “lost progress,” but they require different actions. Offline play concerns how progress is recorded while Steam is not connected. Prestige is an intentional restart of a series. A cloud conflict is a choice between two save states.

Does Fishing Inc make progress while you are offline?
What the current Steam build does
Yes, the game supports progress made while you are away from an online session. Official patch v2.9.0 specifically changed how that offline progress interacts with Steam Cloud: it is no longer silently overwritten when the local and cloud versions disagree. The change protects the result of playing offline; it does not mean that every offline calculation, timing rule, or earning rate is publicly documented.

When you return to the game, the important question is which save state contains your latest legitimate progress. The current build is designed to show you the disagreement instead of quietly selecting cloud data behind the scenes.
What to do when a save conflict appears
- Start Fishing Inc from Steam and wait for the save comparison or conflict prompt to finish loading.
- Read both entries before clicking either option. Identify the local and cloud versions and compare recognizable details such as your last series, money, Fish Log entries, and upgrades.
- Choose the version that reflects the session you most recently completed. Do not assume that “cloud” is automatically newer; an offline session may have newer local data.
- Allow the game to complete the synchronization, then enter the game and verify the money, binder, and upgrades you expected to keep.
- If the wrong state was selected or the prompt does not appear, close and relaunch the game once. The patch is intended to surface the conflict, so a clean restart can make the comparison visible.
There is no published universal rule for resolving every conflict, such as choosing by timestamp alone. Use the actual contents of the two saves rather than guessing from the labels.
If an old cloud save shows zero money
Patch v2.9.0 also addressed a cloud-money bug that could display an incorrect amount and load a player with zero money. The patch notes state that old broken cloud saves are repaired automatically at launch. If you previously saw an implausible balance, update the game, launch it, and let the repair process complete before making further progress.

Automatic repair is not the same as a manual rollback system. The published notes do not describe a user-facing restore menu, backup browser, or guaranteed way to recover an arbitrary overwritten session.
What does Prestige reset?
The official definition
Steam Community notes describe Prestige in one sentence: “Start a new series with everything reset except your binder.” This is a deliberate progression reset, not a save-file repair. Activating it begins another series from the reset state while preserving the binder.

The broad phrase “everything reset except your binder” is the strongest available rule. It supports treating ordinary series resources as temporary, but it does not provide a complete technical inventory. If the game introduces a named currency or a new permanent system, check its in-game description before assuming that Prestige preserves it.

When to Prestige
Prestige makes sense when you have finished the part of a series you want to convert into a fresh run and are comfortable losing its temporary state. Before confirming, record the current money and upgrades for your own reference and make sure the binder contains the entries you intend to retain. Do not use Prestige as a troubleshooting step for missing upgrades; it intentionally removes ordinary progression.

The documented money loop
The Steam store description establishes a general earnings loop: catch fish, earn money, and spend those earnings on upgrades. That cash is the only currency category clearly documented in the available official material.
Why a complete currency list is not available
No authoritative Steam source in the published notes provides a complete named-currency taxonomy or a table showing which currency survives Prestige. Terms you see in the current interface may be valid game concepts, but they should not be treated as permanent, spendable, or preserved across a reset unless the game labels them that way.

For practical decisions, separate three questions:
- What can I spend right now? Check the amount shown beside the purchase or upgrade control.
- Is it part of the current series? If it is earned and spent during the active run, assume it is temporary until the UI says otherwise.
- Does Prestige preserve it? Only the binder is explicitly confirmed as an exception; every other category needs in-game confirmation.
Why are upgrades missing?
First possibility: a local/cloud mismatch
An upgrade that existed before an offline session can disappear if the game loads a different save state. Because v2.9.0 now exposes disagreements instead of silently replacing offline progress, check for a conflict prompt before doing anything destructive. Compare both versions for the upgrade, money balance, and series position.
Second possibility: Prestige was activated
If you deliberately started a new series, ordinary upgrades are expected to be gone. The published Prestige wording names the binder as the exception, not upgrades. Confirm whether the missing item was a series upgrade rather than a binder entry before treating the result as a bug.
Third possibility: an old cloud-money problem
A broken cloud save could previously show an incorrect balance or zero money. Updating to v2.9.0 and launching the game allows the stated automatic repair to run. Verify the result after the launch rather than spending or resetting immediately.

Escalating a persistent mismatch
If the cloud comparison does not offer the expected state, or the game still loads without upgrades after the patch and a relaunch, contact Steam Support. Give the support team the platform, game version, approximate time of the last correct session, whether you played offline, and what each save state displayed. The official notes do not promise a universal player-controlled restoration procedure, so avoid deleting local files or repeatedly forcing synchronization unless support instructs you to do so.
Steam Fishing Inc versus the separate mobile Fish-Inc app
Search results can mix the Steam game with an unrelated mobile app whose name is written Fish-Inc. The Apple App Store listing for that app advertises an Auto Fisher, offline money, more than 10 upgrades, boosts, and permanent prestige multipliers. Those claims belong to the mobile listing and are not evidence about the Steam title.

Before playing offline
- Finish any pending Steam synchronization and enter the game once while connected.
- Note your current series, money, important upgrades, and recent binder additions.
- Exit normally so the local save has a chance to finish writing.
After an offline session
- Reconnect to Steam before launching if possible.
- Read any local-versus-cloud prompt completely.
- Choose the save containing the session you just completed, even if it is labeled local.
- Check the balance and upgrades in-game before starting another long session.
Before confirming Prestige
- Make sure you are intentionally starting a new series.
- Verify that binder entries you care about are present.
- Assume current-series money and upgrades will be reset because the documented exception is only the binder.
- Do not expect Prestige to repair a cloud conflict.
