Measure the installation space and duct route, then check the current installation guide and the cooktop instructions for clearances and other requirements; the hood’s overall dimensions alone do not establish that it will fit a particular kitchen. The manufacturer says the hood can vent outdoors or be configured for recirculation. Recirculation is not simply a setting: the installation guide says it requires two carbon filters and a diverter kit. The parts list identifies those accessories separately, so confirm the precise components and ducting needed for your chosen configuration and market before ordering.

Controls, lighting and filter care
Fisher & Paykel lists three fan speeds plus boost, perimeter extraction, LED strip lighting and a run-on timer that can continue for up to 15 minutes. It also describes SmartHQ app controls and filter-cleaning notifications, as well as automatic fan adjustment when paired with a compatible cooktop. These are manufacturer-described functions; compatibility and setup details should be checked for the specific cooktop and market.

The manufacturer says the three mesh filters are removable and dishwasher-safe, and that SmartHQ can issue a filter alert. It lists cyber security updates until 4 March 2028. The published material does not explain what services or functions are affected after that date, so the date alone does not establish that the appliance or all app features stop working then. Airflow figures conflict; noise and capture performance are not established
Fisher & Paykel’s product feature copy and its quick reference guide state maximum air movement of 780 m³/hr. The detailed fan ratings on the product page list 810 m³/hr. The available material does not reconcile the figures or specify a rating basis that explains the difference, so neither should be presented as a settled maximum without clarification from the manufacturer.

The published sources available here do not provide measured noise levels or independent capture and cooking-fume performance results. CHOICE has separate listings for ducted and recirculating HC90DCBB4 configurations, but the accessible listing passages do not expose scores, test methods, dates or findings. Before purchase, resolve the practical unknowns: confirm the fit and clearances, obtain a complete parts list for the selected installation mode, and ask Fisher & Paykel to clarify which airflow figure applies to the relevant rating basis. If quiet operation or proven fume capture is decisive, seek comparable measured results rather than relying on the feature description.
