The Fisher & Paykel DD60DAX8 is a built-under stainless-steel dishwasher with two independently operated drawers. Its split-load design is useful when you want to wash a smaller load or keep one drawer running while loading the other, but it is a discontinued model with mixed owner feedback. ProductReview.com.au identifies the DD60DAX9 as its replacement; treat that as a shopping lead, not proof that the newer model has identical specifications.
What the DD60DAX8 is
The DD60DAX8 is a double DishDrawer dishwasher designed for under-bench installation. Rather than one full-height door and tub, it has two drawers that can be operated separately. That lets you run one drawer for a smaller load, or load one while the other is washing. The design’s main benefit is flexibility, not a claim that it cleans better or uses less energy than a conventional dishwasher.
Appliances Online’s legacy-model listing describes a stainless-steel unit with 14 place settings in total. These are retailer-published specifications; an exact-model manufacturer specification sheet was not established.

How the two-drawer design works in practice
The defining convenience is that you do not have to wait for a full machine before washing: a single drawer can handle a smaller load. It may also help separate loads by timing or type, provided the chosen program and the load suit each drawer. Fisher & Paykel describes the half-load concept in its guide for the successor as a drawer holding a “true half load”; that wording refers to the DD60DAX9, not a verified DD60DAX8 capacity per drawer.
Consider whether the layout suits your dishes and routine. The retailer lists 14 place settings overall, but the available evidence does not establish DD60DAX8 plate-clearance limits or a per-drawer place-setting figure. If you use large plates, tall glasses, or bulky cookware, confirm fit in person or through model-specific documentation rather than assuming the newer model’s clearances apply.

What owners report about cleaning and reliability
Online reviews present a mixed picture and should not be treated as a controlled test or a failure-rate estimate. ProductReview.com.au displayed 2.2/5 from 11 reviews when accessed in 2026, with category scores of 1.3 for build quality, 1.0 for value, 3.3 for ease of use, 2.0 for cleaning and maintenance, and 3.5 for noise. Comments include reports of error codes, repairs, parts breaking, and poor cleaning, alongside praise for the convenience of separate drawers. These are individual consumer accounts.

Appliances Online displayed an average of 4.6/5 from eight reviews in its separate review snapshot. Several older comments praised convenience, while at least one described mixed cleaning results. The retailer says reviews are managed by Bazaarvoice and that vouchers are sometimes offered to verified buyers in exchange for unbiased reviews. The two platforms have different samples and time periods, so their ratings should not be combined or read as representative reliability statistics.

ProductReview.com.au states that the Fisher & Paykel Double DishDrawer Series 8 DD60DAX8 “has been discontinued and replaced by Double DishDrawer Series 7 DD60DAX9.” That is the site’s replacement statement; a manufacturer discontinuation notice for the DD60DAX8 was not established. Remaining-stock availability and used-unit condition are not confirmed here.

The DD60DAX9 is useful context, but it is a different model. Fisher & Paykel’s DD60DAX9 materials list dimensions of 820–880 mm high × 599 mm wide × 573 mm deep, 14 place settings total (seven per drawer), and round plates up to 280 mm. The successor guide also lists six programs, a 3.5-star energy rating, 136 kWh/year per drawer, 6.9 L per wash per drawer, a 4.5-star WELS water rating, and 43 dBA noise on the standard cycle for the top drawer. These figures apply to DD60DAX9 only, not DD60DAX8.

What to check before buying a used or remaining-stock unit
- Confirm the model: Check the rating plate and purchase documents show DD60DAX8; do not assume a DD60DAX9 listing or manual describes the older unit.
- Measure the cabinet: The retailer lists the DD60DAX8 at 582 mm deep, while the DD60DAX9 guide lists 573 mm. Measure available height, width, and depth, and verify clearances against DD60DAX8 installation documentation.
- Inspect operation: If buying used, ask to see both drawers run through a cycle and check for error codes, leaks, unusual noise, damaged baskets, and signs of incomplete washing. A brief demonstration cannot establish long-term reliability.
- Check support and parts: Ask a local service provider whether they can service this exact model and source compatible parts before committing.
- Establish warranty coverage: Ask whether the unit is new or used, whether any warranty remains, and which written terms apply. The retailer listing’s two-year warranty should not be assumed to transfer to every sale.
- Compare on like-for-like terms: Compare the actual price, installation fit, drawer capacity, label figures for the same region, programs, noise measurement and cycle, and service coverage against the replacement or another dishwasher. There is no independent side-by-side performance test established here.
