Fish Audio’s Drama 3 is a preview text-to-speech model designed to let you direct vocal performance in ordinary language. You can describe an emotion or delivery style, insert a sigh or pause, and apply effects such as Whisper, Slower, Stress or Forceful to selected words. “Edit a single word” therefore means scoping a performance instruction to that selection in the script—not a guarantee that one word can always be regenerated as an isolated audio patch while every neighboring sound remains unchanged.
What Drama 3 does
Fish Audio describes Drama 3 as “a text-to-speech model from Fish Audio built for direction.” Its official product page presents five ways to control a performance:
- Generate text with no added direction.
- Describe tone, emotion or intent in plain language.
- Insert sounds or timing cues, such as a sigh or pause.
- Apply a paired tag to words you select, including Whisper, Slower, Stress or Forceful.
- Write directions in your own language.
The result is a script-oriented workflow: you write what should happen, identify the part of the line that needs special treatment, and render a take. The demonstrated controls are directions to the voice model, not a conventional waveform editor with guaranteed sample-level replacement.

Scope a direction to selected text
On the Drama 3 page, a user can select a few words and place paired tags around them. That lets you make one word or a short phrase quieter, slower, stressed or forceful while leaving the rest of the written direction unchanged. Square-bracket instructions can also place a sound or pause at a particular point in the script.

This is useful when a narration is broadly correct but one term needs a different delivery—for example, stressing a name, whispering a confidential word, or slowing a warning. The model interprets the instruction in context, so the selected word’s timing, pronunciation and transitions may still influence nearby audio.
What the feature does not promise
Fish Audio’s documentation does not clearly establish that you can regenerate exactly one word as a replacement clip and preserve the preceding and following audio bit-for-bit. Treat each change as a new directed take unless the live editor explicitly provides a reliable region-replacement workflow. For clean edits, keep the selected span short, use precise directions, generate alternatives and compare the joins before publishing.

Direct an AI voice with plain language
Drama 3 is aimed at instructions such as “sound relieved,” “deliver this line cautiously,” or “pause before the final word,” rather than requiring a fixed menu of emotion labels. The product examples combine natural-language intent with inserted sounds and scoped tags, allowing direction at both scene and word level.

Fish Audio’s soft-launch announcement calls Drama 3 a creator-focused model and highlights natural-language control of emotion, tone and delivery, reference audio to guide performance, and flexible editing. That announcement describes the launch as a feedback-seeking soft launch for creators rather than a finalized enterprise or developer release; see the soft-launch post for that framing.

Multiple speakers and scene generation
The editor shown by Fish Audio lets you add speakers with individual voices and generate a dialogue together. This makes Drama 3 relevant to scenes, interviews and character exchanges instead of only single-narrator passages. Assigning voices per speaker is part of the demonstrated workflow; it should not be read as a guarantee that every language, voice or project size has identical support.
How to try Drama 3
- Open the Drama 3 page in Fish Audio’s Text to Speech experience.
- Choose or add a speaker voice. For a dialogue, add each speaker and write the exchange together.
- Write the script, then add a plain-language direction for the overall delivery.
- Insert a bracketed sound or pause where timing requires it.
- Select the word or phrase that needs special treatment and apply a paired direction tag such as Whisper, Slower, Stress or Forceful.
- Generate several takes, listen for pronunciation, timing and transitions, and keep the strongest version.
Fish Audio’s FAQ gives the reason for the last step: “Drama 3 is still improving. Results vary between takes, so generate a few and pick the best.” The company presents the behavior as preview software, not as an independently benchmarked production standard.

API availability and an identifier to verify
The product page says Drama 3 is available in Text to Speech and includes a POST /v1/tts example. However, the same page contains an inconsistency:

Because the page uses both identifiers, copy the currently documented value at integration time and expect preview syntax to change. No independent latency, quality or consistency benchmark is established in the launch material.

Preview status, takes and quality expectations
Drama 3’s output can change from one generation to the next. Fish Audio asks creators to provide workflow feedback and compare the model with tools they already use. That makes it sensible to evaluate several takes for the same direction, especially when a selected-word effect changes rhythm or affects a neighboring consonant.
There is no published, independently reproducible Drama 3 score or named performance statistic in the launch and product material. Claims about superior realism, speed or accuracy would therefore go beyond the available evidence.
Access, mobile availability and usage rights
Plans and commercial use
Fish Audio’s pricing page lists a free tier and paid plans. It states that premium subscribers receive API access and that commercial use of verified voices the subscriber owns is permitted on premium plans. It describes free-plan output as personal and non-commercial. These are service-wide plan statements, so check the current terms, plan limits and the rights attached to any voice before commercial publication.
Mobile app
The Apple App Store listing identifies Hanabi AI Inc. as the developer. Its version history includes a Drama 3 Preview entry in the September 2026 chronology, while the listing also shows newer app versions. That corroborates a mobile-app feature appearance, but availability can vary by platform, territory and app version.
Who should use Drama 3?
- Creators directing performance: Plain-language cues and selected-word tags provide more expressive control than a single global style setting.
- Dialogue producers: Multiple speakers can be assembled in one dialogue-generation workflow.
- Developers experimenting with voice direction: An API path is documented, but the model identifier must be verified because the page is inconsistent.
- Production teams needing locked, repeatable renders: Preview status and take-to-take variation call for review, versioning and backup takes.
Drama 3’s central idea is performance direction inside the script. It can make a selected word whisper, slow down or carry emphasis, but the safest workflow is to treat each adjustment as a fresh generated take and audition the surrounding audio rather than assuming an isolated word replacement.
