The Cryogenic Canal – Astral Cavern is a hidden sub-area beneath Cryogenic Canal in Fisch’s Northern Expedition. From the canal, follow the downhill passage to the large arched bridge, drop through the small gap in the floor beneath it, then enter the opening at the bottom of the shaft. The entrance is approximately at GPS coordinates (20047, 610, 5857). The route guide reports Quartz Glass for Meteoric Rod crafting, Golden Trout, and Astral Observatory quest and bestiary progression as reasons to visit, but it does not establish a complete cavern-specific catch list. The guide was updated August 24, 2026.
How to reach the Cryogenic Canal Astral Cavern
Start at the Northern Expedition camp and descend into Cryogenic Canal. The small floor opening is under a large arched bridge partway down the canal; the target is below the bridge, not a separate entrance elsewhere in the expedition.
- From the Northern Expedition camp, follow the path down into Cryogenic Canal.
- Continue downhill through the small arch-shaped passage.
- Follow the route to the large arched bridge and walk underneath it.
- Find the small gap in the floor beneath the bridge and jump through it.
- Fall down the shaft and pass through the hidden opening at the bottom.
- Check that the location popup says Cryogenic Canal – Astral Cavern. The guide also describes a glowing purple-and-black pool as a visual cue.
The guide gives approximate entrance coordinates of (20047, 610, 5857). Treat them as a navigation aid rather than an exact guarantee: the bridge, floor gap, and location popup are the better practical checks. It says no special item or unlock is needed for the route, and returning after finding the entrance does not require one either. The cavern guide presents this location as a stop for Astral Observatory progression. It names Quartz Glass, which it says is used to craft the Meteoric Rod, and Golden Trout, which it describes as a high-rarity catch. It also connects cavern fishing with the Dr. Crookspine questline, Astral Observatory bestiary objectives, and telescope-lens goals. These are reported examples and progression links, not a verified exhaustive reward or catch table; the guide does not publish catch probabilities.

For that reason, use the cavern as a route to pursue those materials and objectives, but do not assume every named catch is guaranteed or that the list is complete. The available guide does not independently establish the cavern’s full catch pool.
Which fish belong to Cryogenic Canal generally?

The same reference describes several Mythical fish in the ordinary canal and recommends rods with mutation passives, naming Trident Rod, Mythical Rod, and Heaven’s Rod. That is the wiki’s gameplay recommendation, not a tested result for the Astral Cavern.
Prepare for the Northern Expedition climb
Cryogenic Canal is the third location in the Northern Expedition. The mountain route has oxygen and temperature hazards: both decrease in parts of the climb, and running out causes death and a respawn at the last spawn point. The Northern Expedition reference lists oxygen tanks and a Winter Cloak among ways to manage those hazards. The wider expedition also includes Glacial Grotto, Overgrowth Caves, and Frigid Cavern as fishing areas, and Cryogenic Canal contains a vault related to Heaven’s Rod. Those are separate expedition features, not rewards of the hidden Astral Cavern.

Fisch has other similarly named destinations, but their locations and approaches are different. The target in this guide is the one reached from Cryogenic Canal under the arched bridge.
