To get Battery Casings for Astronomer Vega in Fisch, accept the quest at The Laboratory, unlock the Mineshaft route through Merlin on Sunstone Island, then fish in the pool inside the Mineshaft until you have five. Guides estimate about a 1% chance per catch, but that rate is unverified and does not guarantee a casing within any set number of casts.
Where to start Astronomer Vega’s quest
The Laboratory is on the oil-rig platform north of Roslit Bay. Speak with Astronomer Vega inside and accept the opening objective before you begin fishing. One guide places the laboratory at approximately -1785, 130, -485; treat those coordinates as an approximate navigation aid, not an exact requirement. Once accepted, the quest tracker shows the materials you need.

How to get five Battery Casings
- Accept the objective: Talk to Astronomer Vega at The Laboratory and accept the quest step requesting Battery Casings.
- Unlock the Mineshaft route: Travel to Sunstone Island and speak with Merlin. Complete the preceding shard and access requirements for the Mineshaft/Chasm route. The access sequence is summarized in guides as unlocking the route through Merlin; consult the current in-game prompts if your tracker shows a prerequisite you have not completed.
- Fish in the underground pool: Enter the Mineshaft and fish in its pool. Battery Casings are catches, not items to pick up from the ground. Fishing around The Laboratory or along Sunstone Island’s ordinary shoreline is not the target location.
- Collect five and return: Keep fishing until you have five Battery Casings, then return to Vega and hand them in. The quest tracker presents the next part of the quest in sequence.
What is the Battery Casing drop rate?
Two guides report an approximate 1% chance per catch, or roughly one casing per 100 catches on average. This is an unofficial estimate: no official Fisch drop table confirming the rate was identified, and the estimate is not a guarantee or a verified current game statistic. Random results can vary substantially, so you may get a casing sooner or fish much longer without one.

The game does not guarantee five items after that many casts. If the rate or quest behavior changes in a patch, use your current quest tracker and recent community guidance rather than treating the estimate as fixed.

What happens after the Battery Casings hand-in?
The broader Astral Observatory quest leads to a telescope at The Laboratory. Guides describe using a lens and battery charge to activate temporary nighttime Astral Anomalies that affect everyone in the server. Reported anomaly names include Celestial Congregation, Abyssal Alignment, Evershifting Eclipse, Meteoric Outburst, and Lunar Eclipse. Exact event effects and percentages may change with updates, so follow the telescope’s current in-game prompt. Battery Casings are fictional quest catches; the route does not require a real-world battery product.
