To export saved Firefox usernames and passwords, open the Passwords page, choose Export Logins… or Export Passwords… from its three-dot menu, then save the resulting CSV file. The file is readable and unencrypted, so handle it as sensitive information and delete it when you finish.

Export saved logins from Firefox

  1. Open the Firefox menu and choose Logins and Passwords or Passwords. This opens the Password Manager page at about:logins.

  2. On that page, open the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Export Logins… or Export Passwords…. The wording can differ by Firefox version or interface.

Protect the exported CSV

The CSV is not encrypted: anyone who can open the file can read the saved passwords. Mozilla Support says not to upload, email, or share it, and to delete it when finished. Save it only where you intend to handle sensitive credentials, and remove it when the backup or transfer is complete.

A Primary Password, device sign-in prompt, or Firefox Sync does not encrypt a CSV created by export. Mozilla documents those as Password Manager protections or ways to access passwords across Firefox devices, not as a way to secure the exported file. See Mozilla’s Password Manager guidance.

Import the CSV into Firefox or another app

If you are moving logins, check that the destination application supports importing a Firefox-compatible CSV and follow its current instructions. Do not assume every password manager accepts the same file format. Firefox itself can import login data from a CSV when you choose to do so:

Firefox does not import login data from another browser or file unless you explicitly start an import. The available routes are documented in Mozilla’s instructions for importing login data from a file.

Exporting versus Firefox Sync

Export creates a standalone CSV for a backup or transfer; Sync provides access to passwords across Firefox devices. They serve different purposes, and Mozilla’s documentation does not establish them as equivalent backup methods. For details on Sync and Password Manager controls, see Mozilla’s Password Manager guidance.

Official Firefox instructions

For screenshots and the current export flow, consult Mozilla Support: Export login data from Firefox. Mozilla’s key warning is that exported passwords are readable by anyone with access to the file; treat the CSV accordingly.
