If the Firefox Crash Reporter keeps appearing, first check whether Firefox is actually closing unexpectedly. The dialog is a sign of a crash, not a setting that causes one. You can turn off automatic crash-report submission for privacy, but stopping the popup requires finding out why Firefox is crashing.
Identify which Firefox message you are seeing
The Crash Reporter appears after Firefox closes unexpectedly. It offers options such as submitting a report, viewing details, restarting, or quitting. If you restart, Firefox may offer to restore your windows and tabs; if it crashes again after restoration, start a new session instead, since a restored page could be involved. Mozilla’s crash help explains the dialog and recovery options.
A later prompt asking you to submit unsent crash reports is different: it concerns reports from earlier crashes, not necessarily a new crash at the moment the prompt appears. Mozilla describes how to submit crash reports.

If the message appears while Firefox is not open, or you are unsure what it says, note the exact wording, when it appears, and your operating system. A support thread about this timing does not establish a universal cause. Mozilla Support discussions can help with a case-specific question.

Check whether Firefox has recorded a crash
- Open Firefox and enter
about:crashesin the address bar. - Review the listed crash reports. The page lets you inspect reports and submit them.
- Record the report IDs for recent crashes. If the problem persists, share the IDs with the Mozilla support community along with your operating system and what you were doing when Firefox closed.
If Firefox will not start, Mozilla’s crash help describes where to find the operating system’s Crash Reports folder. A crash ID can help support investigate, but it does not by itself identify the cause.
Turn off automatic sending if privacy is your concern
In desktop Firefox, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Firefox Data Collection and Use, then turn off Automatically send crash reports. With automatic sending disabled, reports remain on your device unless you submit one manually. This setting changes whether reports are sent; it does not prevent Firefox from crashing or remove the cause of a recurring dialog. Mozilla’s data-sharing instructions.

Test whether an extension, theme, or graphics setting is involved
- Open the Firefox menu and choose Help → Troubleshoot Mode, then confirm the restart. If Firefox cannot stay open long enough, use the startup method for Troubleshoot Mode described in Mozilla’s instructions.
- Use Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode long enough to see whether the problem recurs.
- If Firefox stops crashing in that mode, an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration is a likely cause. Re-enable or change those items methodically to identify the trigger.
- If Firefox still crashes in Troubleshoot Mode, investigate the crash report and other possible causes; do not assume an extension is responsible.
Tell a crash from a hang
A crash means Firefox closes unexpectedly. A hang means the window remains open but stops responding. If Firefox is still open and frozen, follow Mozilla’s hang troubleshooting rather than treating it as a recurring crash popup.

If a crash warning identifies a third-party module, Windows users can inspect modules in about:third-party and temporarily block a suspected module to test whether it is involved. Follow Mozilla’s module guidance. Do not infer that a particular security program or other application caused the crash without evidence in the warning or crash investigation.

Why there is no universal “turn off the popup” fix
The dialog follows an unexpected shutdown, so repeated appearances usually call for crash diagnosis rather than hiding the report prompt. Older forum discussions from 2012 and 2014 mention environment-variable or registry changes, but those dated suggestions are not current general guidance. Use Firefox’s documented report-submission setting for privacy, and crash history plus Troubleshoot Mode to investigate the underlying failure.
