No documented Firefox WebExtensions Bookmarks API method sets a bookmark keyword. An extension can create and update ordinary bookmark details such as a title and URL, but Mozilla’s documented fields do not include a keyword. This answer is limited to the public WebExtensions API; it does not rule out privileged or external mechanisms.
What the Firefox Bookmarks API supports
Mozilla’s WebExtensions bookmarks API overview describes an API for interacting with and manipulating the browser’s bookmarking system. An extension must request the bookmarks permission to use it. The documented API supports creating, retrieving, updating, moving, deleting, and searching bookmarks, along with bookmark events.
Creating a bookmark
browser.bookmarks.create() accepts a details object for a bookmark or folder. The documented fields include its parent, position, title, type, and URL. The create method reference does not list a keyword field.

Updating a bookmark
browser.bookmarks.update() documents changing a bookmark’s title or URL, or a folder’s name. Its documented changes object contains title and url, not a keyword. See Mozilla’s update method reference.

Searching bookmarks
The documented browser.bookmarks.search() criteria include free-text terms and the query, title, and url properties. The search method reference does not document a keyword criterion.
What this means for an extension
For an ordinary WebExtension using Mozilla’s documented public API, setting a bookmark keyword is not a supported operation. Adding a keyword property to a call to browser.bookmarks.create() or browser.bookmarks.update() is not a documented way to assign one.

This conclusion follows from the fields and methods Mozilla documents; it is not a claim about every possible way of interacting with Firefox. The cited documentation does not establish whether a privileged add-on, native integration, or version-specific mechanism can change a bookmark keyword outside the public WebExtensions API. Do not treat such routes as available or reliable on this evidence alone.

Practical choices
- Need to create or edit ordinary bookmark data: request the
bookmarkspermission and use the documented API for supported fields such as title and URL. - Need to assign a keyword specifically: the public API documentation does not provide a supported method. Do not build an extension around an undocumented field unless you have separate, version-specific evidence and can account for compatibility risk.
- Need a solution beyond the public API: first verify that a proposed privileged or external mechanism exists for the Firefox versions and installation context you target; the public documentation cited here does not confirm one.
Mozilla’s WebExtensions guide covers the extension framework, but the cited public API documentation does not describe bookmark keyword management.
