The right Fire TV Stick depends on your TV’s resolution, the HDR and audio formats in your setup, and the features you’ll actually use. Amazon’s current device documentation lists four recent choices: Fire TV Stick HD (2026), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025), Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025), and Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023). Availability varies by marketplace, so verify the exact model on Amazon’s product page for your region.
Which Fire TV Stick should you buy?
Start with your television, then consider Wi-Fi and extras. A 4K stick can connect to an HD television, but it cannot make that screen display 4K. For a 4K television, match the stick’s supported HDR formats to the TV and the content you watch. Amazon’s product specifications list the capabilities of each model; they are not independent picture-quality or performance tests.
- Choose Fire TV Stick HD (2026) if your television is HD and you want a recent model with Wi-Fi 6, HDR-format support, AV1 support, 8 GB storage, and Alexa access through the remote.
- Consider Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) for a 4K television if Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, and Wi-Fi 6 match your equipment and priorities.
- Consider Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) if Wi-Fi 6E, Ambient Experience, live camera picture-in-picture, or its listed gaming-related features matter to you.
- Check Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) if its local availability and exact app support suit you. Amazon describes access to content from major providers, but this does not guarantee every app works in every country.
Amazon’s device specifications list the models and capabilities. Its Fire TV platform page describes content access at the platform level. Neither means paid subscriptions are included with the stick.

How do the recent Fire TV Stick models differ?
Use this table as a feature comparison, not a speed or picture-quality ranking. Amazon characterizes the 4K Max (2nd Gen) as its most powerful streaming stick; that is Amazon’s positioning, not an independently verified ranking.

What matters most for your TV and home setup?
Resolution and HDR
If your TV is HD, a 4K-capable stick will not upgrade the panel to 4K. On a 4K TV, HDR benefits depend on the formats supported by both the TV and the stick, as well as the content. For example, Amazon specifies Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for the 4K Plus; confirm your television supports the format you want before paying for that capability.

Wi-Fi generation
Amazon lists Wi-Fi 6 for the HD (2026) and 4K Plus (2025), and Wi-Fi 6E for the 4K Max (2nd Gen). A newer Wi-Fi label alone does not guarantee faster or more reliable streaming at home. The result also depends on your router, internet service, signal strength, placement, and interference. Match the stick to your network rather than assuming an upgrade will fix buffering.
Audio formats and equipment
The 4K Plus listing includes Dolby Atmos support, and Amazon lists Dolby Atmos for the 4K Max. To hear a particular format, the service’s content and the rest of your audio chain—such as the TV, receiver, or sound system—must also support it. A stick’s format specification does not establish what your complete setup can deliver.

- Fire TV Ambient Experience lets you display over 2,000 pieces of museum-quality art and photography.
Voice controls and smart-home features
The HD (2026) supports Alexa control through its remote; Amazon specifies far-field Alexa control for that model only through a linked Echo device. The 4K Max description also lists live camera picture-in-picture and smart-home controls. Treat these as useful extras if you already use compatible devices, not as reasons to buy if you will not use them.
Storage, ambient display, and gaming extras
Amazon lists 8 GB of storage for the HD (2026) and 4K Plus (2025). The 4K Max includes Ambient Experience and Auto Low Latency Mode in its product description, alongside cloud-gaming-related features. These may matter if you want an ambient display or plan to use supported gaming features; they are not a substitute for checking the exact game, service, and setup you intend to use.

What to check before ordering
- Confirm the model name and generation. Amazon’s device documentation lists the HD (2026), 4K Plus (2025), 4K Select (2025), and 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023). Make sure the product listing matches the model you selected.
- Check your TV’s resolution and format support. Look up whether it is HD or 4K and which HDR and audio formats it accepts.
- Check the router and connection conditions. Identify its Wi-Fi generation and consider where the stick will be used; Wi-Fi specifications cannot predict performance in your home.
- Verify local app availability and subscriptions. Look up the particular app in your region and review its service terms. The device does not establish that a paid subscription is included.
- Review live price, stock, and included accessories. Amazon’s cited specifications do not establish current prices, discounts, or inventory, which can change by marketplace and date.
Amazon’s update log records additions of the HD (2026) and 4K Plus (2025) to its documentation: device specifications and updates.
