To check a website’s PHP version in hPanel, open Websites, select Dashboard beside the site, search the sidebar for PHP Info, and open it. The version appears at the top. For a particular folder or subdomain, check from that location with a temporary PHP information file instead.
Check the PHP version for a website in hPanel
-
Sign in to hPanel and open Websites.
-
Select Dashboard beside the website you want to check.
-
Search the sidebar for PHP Info, then open it.
-
Read the PHP version shown at the top of the page.
This is the usual first check for a website’s displayed PHP configuration. These instructions may not apply to websites created with an AI website builder.

A folder or subdomain may run a different PHP version from the website-level setting. To verify that narrower context, create a temporary PHP file in the target location containing <?php phpinfo(); ?>, then visit the file’s corresponding URL in a browser. The PHP information page shows the runtime details for that location.
#1 Best Overall
Delete the file as soon as you finish checking. A phpinfo() page can expose PHP configuration information, so it should not remain publicly accessible. This method can be used to check a website, subdomain, or specific folder.
Use WordPress Overview for a quick check
If the site is managed through its WordPress tools, the WordPress Overview page in hPanel displays both the PHP version and the WordPress version.
What else PHP Info can tell you
The PHP Info page is useful beyond identifying the version. It also lists active extensions, PHP options, and runtime limits such as max_execution_time. These details can help diagnose why an application behaves differently in another environment.
Checking a version is different from changing it
PHP Info is for inspecting the configuration. To select a different PHP version, use the path Websites → Dashboard → PHP Configuration; choose a version and select Update. Available versions can change, so check the live PHP Configuration screen for your account rather than relying on an older version list. The documented workflow may exclude AI website builder sites.
Before switching a working site, check that its CMS and site code, themes, and plugins support the version you intend to use. Update these components and verify compatibility before changing PHP.
Changing a folder’s PHP version through .htaccess does not also configure PHP extensions and options, and it may affect site operation. Treat that approach as a scoped or temporary workaround rather than the normal way to manage PHP settings.
